Author: V. Blaire Hawthorne
Genre: Mystery/horror
What I liked about this book:
The megachurch idea is really fascinating. I know there have been IRL cases of the same sort of structure and that they've caused a lot of damage in various places in the world. Using this as a story idea is honestly something I'd like to see more of.
What I did NOT like about this book:
This is SO dry.
By three chapters in, I'd only read a bunch of diary entries about the main character's cleaning up the house and struggling because his mother died and his uncle took him in. By chapter five the church is introduced, but then...he kills a guy? There's no lead-up and no storybuilding.
I understand this is a diary but I need it to be written in a way that's compelling and this really isn't. It's again, very dry and telly, and difficult for me to want to read.
Overall:
Another forgettable tale
Rating:
3/10, needs restructuring. The opening of the book needs to have something happen a lot faster.
