Chapter 3 - Invitation

Shannon POV

The girl’s reaction was very amusing; her face went through a wide range of expressions in the span of seconds. I had to admit the burst of energy that went through us was quite extraordinary; never had I felt such kindred with another magic user, not even Sidney.

And the worst (or best, however you wanted to see it) in this is that Sarah seemed totally oblivious of her own powers…

“Wha- What was that?!” the girl exclaimed, yanking her hand from mine.

I did not answer her. Instead, I slowly resumed my way to guide her to her classroom. Sidney followed up in silence. I could feel Sarah’s hesitance, so I turned around with my most inviting smile.

“Are you coming? You will be late to your class…” I said.

Sarah gasped, “Y-yes!” she hurried, still visibly reluctant.

We walked quietly in the corridors of the building, only my own high-heeled steps perturbed the silence. We reached Sarah’s appointed classroom.

I stopped in front of the girl and turned to face her. Her body reacted on its own and took a step backwards defensively.

“Sarah was it?” I called her out.

Her eyes, which had been looking down at her feet the whole time, darted upward.

“I know what happened a moment ago must be really confusing to you right now…” I said, looking straight into her hazel eyes.

The girl only nodded.

“And I intend to explain everything to you soon.” I continued my speech. “Are you willing to trust me?”

Sarah’s eyes widened, her lips agape. “I… Can’t you just tell me now…?” she asked tentatively.

“I’m afraid it is not something I can talk about in broad daylight, surrounded by dozens of people.” I replied, purposefully evasive. “But if you are willing to hear me out, I can tell you everything tonight.”

Sarah thought about it for a few seconds, looking at me and Sidney with wary eyes. Smart girl.

“Alright…” she finally answered.

I smiled at her, “Thank you, Sarah! I promise that it will be worthwhile.” I said placing a hand on her shoulder, sending another burst of energy through the both of us.

“Aaah, what a delight!” I thought, repressing myself from moaning.

“Here.” I said, while rummaging through my handbag. “Follow the map on this card, it will lead you to our meeting place.”

I handed her a folded black business, on which a golden pentagram was inscribed. She took it and stared at it silently.

“Come at 8 p.m. tonight. We have plenty to discuss, Sarah.” I announced, re-adjusting the straps of my bag on my shoulder.

The girl looked up at me, it was clear she was very confused, and probably scared. But I also could feel her curiosity peeking through her innocent eyes.

“She will come.” I thought, letting a grin appear on my face.

“Oh and…” I continued, leaning closer to her. “No word of this to anyone! This is a secret between the three of us!”

I placed my index finger on my lips and winked at her.

Not waiting for her response, I spinned around and started to walk to the nearest doors. I turned my face after a few steps.

“I am looking forward to see you again tonight, Sarah.”
