Matthew led Leah to a chair, pulling it out for her before taking his own seat. As they settled, the Alpha looked to Leah and said, “As you know, I am the Alpha of this pack and this territory.” He paused long enough for Leah to nod her acknowledgment before continuing. “I can see that you are powerful, however, I will not allow you to bring your people to my territory nor will I allow you to think you can get away with anything you want on my land. If you cannot abide by my rules than I have no problem revoking my permission for you and your family to reside on my land. Is that clear?”
Looking him in the eye to remind him that she was an Alpha in her own right and wouldn’t submit out of dominance, she responded, “I wouldn’t expect anything less. I understand this is your land and I would not disrespect the trust you have allowed me by granting us your approval to stay here. My pack won’t come here unless it’s an emergency and I would bring them to you as soon as possible; as you said, you are the Alpha of the land, not me. The only one that would come would be my First Beta, Lethe, however, he always calls before coming and usually shows up to the Alpha’s home first, before coming to see me.”
Thinking about what she said, the Alpha could see that Leah was sincere and wouldn’t take advantage of her allowance to be on pack land. “Good. Now that that is out of the way, let me introduce my family. I am Emery Mercia and as I am sure you have noticed; these are my triplet sons. You met my middle son, Markus, last night without my permission.” Here the Alpha took a moment to glare at his son before moving to his next one, “This is Mason, my youngest of the triplets.” Whereas Markus gave Leah the same glare as the previous night, Mason gave her a wave while a laid-back smile rested across his face. Leah could tell that not much fazed him. “And obviously, you have met my eldest, Matthew.”
Squeezing his mate’s hand before turning to his father, Matthew said, “Father, we wanted to—”
“I know what the two of you want, Matthew.” Emery interrupted his eldest son before he had a chance to ask his questions. “My suggestion is that the two of you get to know one another before you ask those types of questions. I know that because you are true mates, I will eventually have to answer those questions, however, for the time being, I will not. You are still in high school, so why worry about the formalities until you both graduate?”
Looking at each other Leah and Matthew silently agreed to his father’s request before Matthew said aloud, “Until we graduate then.”
Clapping his hands together, Emery stood up and looked to Leah before saying, “would you like to spend the day here and get to know the pack, or do you have other plans?”
“My mother was hoping for my help to finish getting our house set up and then I was going to take my brother to school to make sure all our transcripts and paperwork went through.”
Before she could say anything else, Matthew interrupted, “I can come over and help you settle and show you and Alex around the school if you want. Then we can return here for dinner with the pack and you can get to know some of the others who will be in school with us.”
Even before he finished talking, Emery was shaking his head at his eldest child. He could tell that all Matthew was thinking about was spending time with his newfound mate and while he found no issue with it, he didn’t believe his son’s judgment was the best at the moment. “Matthew, I know I raised you with better manners than that!” Emery snapped, causing Matthew to jump in his seat, looking slightly sullen at the chastisement. Turning to Leah, Emery offered, “Why don’t you come for dinner after you’ve helped your mother with the house. You can bring her and your brother so that the pack can get to know them as well.”
