The Last Sin

Prologue

Prologue

Aug 27, 2020

In this dark and gloomy hell, devoid of light and life, a whipping sound could be heard.

Where that whipping sound came from, there were two celestial beings who, except for their corrupted and hideous features, closely resembled what was known as humans.

One of them laid on floor whimpering and it could be seen from its damaged body that it was close to falling apart.

The other, a few heads taller, clad in a creepy red armor with a strange sigil of an ouroboros printed on it, was whipping with glee and reckless abandon with a whip that didn't look so ordinary.

The one lying on the floor then managed to say with difficulty, "Gi...give m..me another ch..chance. I...I promise...I will succeed this ti...time."

The red armored being then said, "It's not my fault that you lost your touch, Azel. Since when do you let a human fill your head with heresy. This pain you're feeling should be enough to override your feelings of betrayal and bring you back to the right mindset."

"I want you to go back and make him fall from grace before he dies and ascends. And this time I will not tolerate any failure." He continued.

"You...you don't understand. He's n...not a normal...hu...human anymore. He's a...S..." Azel then fainted before he could finish his words.

"A what?" The red armored being then increased the strength he used to whip. Three or four whips away, Azel was awakened due to the pain without any strength to even scream no matter how he wished for it.

"He's...he's a... Saint!" Azel said with the little breath he had as his eyes rolled again and fainted for the second time, leaving his torturer to fend for himself with the shocking information.

"My mission is to make this so called Saint fall into depravity...."

It's not hard to believe that the demons have nothing better to do than to make us all renounce our faith and fall into depravity.

They have lost the war, the price of their rebellion being too hard to swallow even for celestial beings such as themselves.

...And the instrument of their hatred, humans, suddenly becomes everything they can think about : They must bring as many humans as they can in hell to keep them company. After all, what's an eternity without a kindred spirit to torture every now and then. They had rebelled against being servants to these weak humans and now they had the chance to vent their anger for all eternity.

While one was torturing the other, the fact remained that they would both suffer from the same excruciating pain for all eternity : Being so far away from that soothing light exuded by the father of all. After all, Hell was just that : Pain for all eternity.

***

Azel, a low ranked demon, had been tasked to tempt a man. A holy man.

In the beginning, it was just a simple routine mission. A kind of mission he excelled at with a good track record.

...But he never imagined that the man filled with righteousness would eventually become a Saint because of his involvement in the man's life.

It wasn't hard to make a Saint fall. They were after all still humans.

You just needed to find their weak spot. Something that they held dear and that despite the amount of faith they had, they could still have that moment of distraction, long enough for Azel to strike.
