“Hey wake up.” A firm but gentle female voice called into my ear.

“Ugh, five more minutes.” I grumbled, squeezing my eyes shut tighter in an effort to get more sleep.

I can’t remember when but I must have fallen asleep despite how talkative Abby was or how the car jolted each time she hit a bump in the road, I kept getting a bit annoyed since she made no attempt to avoid them but she seemed very used to it. I think at one point I was afraid for my life, Abby didn’t seem to really be a great driver, maybe I should have made sure she had a drivers license before getting in the vehicle. I guess I was just so tired even I could sleep under those circumstances. “Hey sleepy head!” She proclaimed happily as I managed to pry open my eyes, my vision still blurry with grogginess. “We’re here!” How could she be so excited staying awake all night. She brushed her perfect blonde hair away from her eyes as she gestured grandly.

I immediately felt a knot in my neck, I tried cracking it to relieve the pain, the big *CRACK* made Abby jump in her seat. “Man I gotta pee.”

Abby scoffed, “How unladylike!”

“Eh.” I replied, I am what I am, which is probably the reason I couldn’t keep a boyfriend to save my life. “Can’t wait to lay in my own bed. Screw you work, I’m ditching.” I bolted forward in excitement, peering out of the slightly dirty window. Only to once again be disappointed, I didn’t recognize anything!

“Work? Your husband makes you work?” Abby quizzically responded, grabbing her luggage out of the backseat. “Oh you must not be married yet, I noticed you don’t have a ring. No wonder you wear pants freely.” Without thinking I glanced down to her hand and saw a beautiful ring, so Abby was married. I wonder if she has kids, no wonder she acts so straight laced, she wants to be a good influence? “You won’t want to wait too long, otherwise you may not find a man.”

Okay, at this point I’m catching on, I’m not stupid, well I hope I’m not anyway. “That’s it! I’m in a coma, I’m dreaming it’s 1930 but still 2020 at the same time. Or I’m dead. Whatever.” I whipped open the door, the window was a bit too dirty to see out of due to traveling on dirt roads all night. “Yup I’m dead.” I followed up as I exited the vehicle seeing my surroundings. The town age wise looked just like the small village I stumbled onto the night before. Unlike the village, it was bustling with life, people walking about, horses, old vintage cars, and a loud popular outdoor market, similar to a farmer’s market. However, nothing compared to the beautiful castle that even in the distance nothing could compare, it looked straight out of a fairy tale.

“We’re at my house!” She squealed, ignoring me thinking out loud. “Come inside!” Before I could protest she grabbed my arm and dragged me with her. Wow, she’s way too trusting, we just met and already she’s treating me like her best friend. I really wanted to check out the castle, but I complied and followed her so she would stop dragging me.

As soon as Abby burst open the door she yelled into the empty space. "Honey I'm home!" Dragging me in with her she added. "And I brought a woman who thinks she's a man!"

"I do not!" I quickly retorted.

"Okay she has amnesia and thinks she's a man!"

"Sigh fine whatever."

"Welcome home dear! How wa-." He stopped abruptly when he saw me come into the light, eyeing all the cardboard boxes, I wonder if they're moving soon, or just moved in. "She's!" He exclaimed not finishing his sentence. "Dear, where did you find her?!"

" Hmm?" She hummed not quite paying attention, digging through a box. "Oh in Abbington while visiting my parents, she said she's from the city so I drove her back. Did you see that welt on her head? She knocked herself good and has been saying weird stuff. We should probably phone a doctor." She pulled a tin box out of one of the cardboard boxes, reminds me of one of those cookie tins every grandma ever uses for sewing supplies. "Here it is!" She exclaimed, opening the tin. "Kerri come over here, I'll bandage your head up." The tin was full of first aid supplies. I complied, but recoiled when she pulled a small glass bottle of what I assumed was rubbing alcohol. Pouring the alcohol without even looking up she continued on. "My husband here, Maximilian, you can call him Max, just got promoted to a personal knight for king Lee. We're moving in a few days, that's why we have all of these boxes." She gestured toward the small living space filled with boxes.

"That's cool." I replied turning back toward Max, for some reason his face was sheet white. "Got any guns stashed away here?"

"What's a gun? Is that a new type of sword?" Abby asked, stinging my head with the alcohol.

Wait, they don't have guns here? I thought to myself, trying to piece together the puzzle. So they've got cars similar to the 1930s era, but kings and buildings like the medieval era. This doesn't make sense! I must be mixing dramas in my coma delusion.

"Uh nevermind." I stammered, wincing in pain from the alcohol.

"Abby, we need to go see the king right away!" Max finally chimed in firmly.

"Why? Kerri needs medical attention. We should see if Doctor Giles is avail-"

Grabbing both of us by an arm he simply replied, "Now."

And just like that I was stuffed back into the car, on the way to see the king.
