"You're not leaving so soon are you?" the Siren slowly came closer to the Captain, sliding the underbelly of her snake tale against the rocky floor of the cave.
Ren raised her right eyebrow seriously. She was not amused by the cave siren's false beauty. The Captain took a wide sack from her belt, it was still damp from diving into the water hole. Ren started filling up the sack with the gold coins piled up against the cave walls.
"Ren! What are you doing?" Anette asked, panicked.
"We are not leaving until I get what I came for." Ren slowly spoke, focused on the coins. Her eyes stared at the the coins instead of the Siren, she knew if she looked at the bewitching mermaid too long, she might go into a trance like the two idiots who were still standing with gaping mouths, in awe over the beauteous creature.
"Yes, please stay Captain." The siren's voice sounded soothing and persuasive. She slid closer to Ren. "Stay with me and you can have as much gold as you wish." the creature leaned toward the captain and whispered in her ear seductively, her thin lips curling as she spoke. Anette heard an uncomfortable hissing noise with every word that came out of the Siren's mouth. But she knew that her voice was much different to the ears of the Captain.
"Ren, please don't listen." Anette pleaded.
Ren smiled, she raised her head up to look at the Siren's hypnotizing eyes. "I'm terribly sorry lass. Though you are quite beautiful, you are simply not my type." She chuckled, heaved the sack of coins on her shoulder and turned quickly to Anette and the two other pirates. She grabbed the maiden's hand and ran for the exit. Ren shouted at Nico and Araja, trying to get there attention. It was useless, they were hypnotized.
The Captain threw the sack at Nico, making him fall to the ground. He became conscious as he blinked with confusion. Ren picked up her speed, Anette followed behind.
"You ... you..." The siren hissed, her voice more angry than ever before. "How did you... you escaped my ... my trance." she slid fast, catching up to the two girls. She caught Anette by the shoulder and dug her long nails into the poor maiden's shoulder.
Anette winced. She let go of Ren's hand and fell back into the Siren's grasp. "If you won't stay with me willingly..." she hissed, "I will drown you all instead."
Ren spun around, though she still smiled, the anger blazing from her eyes pierced the Siren. "That just won't do." She pouted sarcastically. She took a step forward and reached for her dagger.
The Cave Siren tightened her arms around Anette's chest, nearly stopping her air way. Anette tilted her head up to look at the monster who had her in it's grasp. Anette saw the mermaid's thin, bony chin and her lips stretched into a snarl with two long teeth over her bottom lip. The maiden stared into the white eyes of the siren, they looked different than before. The creature's eye lids had dropped down, where they covered some of the bright white of the eyes. She almost looked sad, like she had given up.
~She must be lonely.~ Anette started thinking. ~She is all by herself in this dark cave. Even if she's trying to kill me, she still has emotions like the rest of us. She's probably depressed too.~
Ren swiftly lunged forward, dagger in hand, and cut the Siren on the arm. This made the creature let go of the captured maiden. Anette ran behind Ren, stumbling as she went.
"Don't touch her again." The Captain warned. She then jumped and tackled the Siren, pushing her scaly shoulders against the rock floor. The mermaid tried to struggled and hiss, but Ren managed to take hold of her and pressed the dagger against her throat.
"Ren don't!" Anette pleaded. "She doesn't de -"
"I'm not going to kill her lovely, I just wanted to make sure she knew not to mess with me." Ren smiled. "Understand Siren?"
The creature hissed, trying to slither away. Ren held her in place with the force of her body weight and shook her head. "You sea creatures never learn." Ren pushed the Siren back into the pool of water. "Alright then. Let's be off." The captain jumped to her feet and started toward the exit. "We still have to get these two idiots back to the ship."
"So you weren't going to kill her?" Anette asked, following Ren to where Araja and Nico stood.
"Lovely," Ren grew a little serious, heaving the large sack of gold over her shoulder she said, "I never kill anything that doesn't deserve to be killed. That creature may have acted like a monster but, she was still half human after all. There had to be some humanity left it her."
Anette stared at the captain wonderingly.
"I really had no idea what happened." Nico pressed his palm against his forehead. He sat on the deck stairs, trying to recollect what had happened on the group's little expedition. Other crew members stood around him, listening.
"I'll tell you what happened. You and Araja just stook there like perverts, drooling over a mermaid." Captain Ren chuckled. She leaned against the base of the mast and chuckled. This statement made Nico want to hide his face even more. Even Araja, who was standing near by, colored.
Bonus Material:
After the group had dived back into the water hole with the gold. Anette walked with Ren back to the ship. She asked, "Ren? What was in the chest in the middle of the water?"
"Oh that? It was empty. Cave Siren's normally will use empty chests to look like treasure as a ploy to get people closer in the water. It's so she can reach them faster and then drown them." Ren explained, probably more casually than she should have.
"Oh." Anette thought for a moment. ~Maybe I should start doing more research on my people, before I help Ren with hers.~
