The Apprentice

The Apprentice

Sep 01, 2020

At Eimas entrance another couple of traveler is about to depart, one of them is holding Iron rod, while other one has a very big backpack, almost similar to Vali's group.

"Lets go!" Said the one with rod.

"Where are we going?" Asked the other person.

"Sealgair, but first I must catch up with my friend."

"Your friend that leaves you here?"

"No, not them. She's friend that got me into the trouble."

"Ah, you're going to teach her a lesson?"

"What? No! She's in trouble! I have to help her!!"

"Didn't she abandoned you?"

"Well... I'm very sorry for your first journey to started this way though... but it's important ."

"Ah don't mind me, it was me that insist joining you, Domy."

"..."

"Just pretend I'm a rock or something."

"Huh, I can't do THAT! you're Mr.Loth Friend!"

"Apprentice, actually." Said the Doctor's apprentice.

The two make their way out of Eimas in great haste. Without further questioning Domy dashed like he was being chased by ghost, while the apprentice followed, trying to keep up with him. They ran past the hut and camps that surrounded Eimas, not far from it they can see the burnt tent remains that was used for Bronze scheme, but Domy is too busy thinking about Ava to notice it.

After running for 3 hours straight the apprentice is started to losing his strength, but Domy is still fresh as he was running from the start.

"Hold on!" Shout the apprentice while panting.

"What's wrong!?" Shouted Domy.

"I need- *pant* to take a break..."

"Oh..."

Domy took a closer look at the apprentice. He sits on the ground with his huge backpack, looks very exhausted with his pale face and bruises all over his knees, it's only natural since it's first journey after all.

"Now I realized he's a doctor's apprentice, I didn't think they even do heavy stuff that required lots of stamina... to run this far itself for them is already amazing." thought Domy.

"Sorry I didn't notice we've been running for quite a bit. Let me carry the backpack!"

"It's... fine...*pant* you seems very thoughtful with your friend huh...? Are you that worried?"

"It is as matter of fact... I just... really wish she's okay."

"Well... I would not consider three hours for just a bit though..."

"Three!? I thought we've been running for like.. twenty minutes at least!"

"Huh, well your mind is clouded with worry. But, even then look at you."

"What about me?" Asked Domy while he look at himself all over.

"You're still the same as we started."

"Huh?"

"I mean... not even a sweat."

"Whoa! you're right!! Wait... do we really running for three hours?"

"The apprentice took a deep breath, starting to recover his strenght. He then goes back up and looks at confused Domy in the eyes.

"Hufft... right so, mind telling me your secret?"

"Secret...?"

"Yes."

It took Domy a few seconds before he answered, he looked upward as he was thinking what did he do for the past few days to answer it.

"You have to practice swinging rod everytime I guess."

"..."

The apprentice looks Domy in the eyes, based on his experience as someone who examine people during his work, he can tell when most people are lying, and Domy isn't one of them. In disappointment he took another deep breath and let it out.

"I'll note that then..."

"Heheh! Just keep training everyday and your stamina will be as good as mine!"

"Uhh... no, there's not a single person in this world who can run dashing for three hours straight without a single drop of sweat. Even I someone who uses medicine support and workout regularly everyday is still this exhausted. I know he's an idiot but still..." Thought the apprentice.

He looked at Domy again, who seems can't wait to just dash again to find his beloved friend.

"Can we just walk for now, just for a while?"

"Uh... yeah sure! Get your strength back first! It's dangerous to be exhausted in the wilderness."

"Said the guy who running nonstop in the wilderness."

"My deepest apologize!"

"This proves master was right, It's worth it to investigate this guy." He thought again.

They keep on going after that by walking, Domy looks around every 80 meters, searching for Ava, while the apprentice took a short break each time he did that. After a while they arrived in a rocky place, its a momentful place for Domy, he remembers that place very well.

"That's odd."

"Eh, what is..?"

"You always stopped at some exact pace, why suddenly changed?"

"Huh?... Oh! You've been paying attention? I did stopped every one hundred steps!"

"Yes, it's a habit of mine to observe things carefully."

"Is it a doctor stuff skills? Amazing!"

"... that's somewhat right I guess, so why?"

"Well... this is the place when I got badly injured during the hunt."

"Hmmm..."

Domy then swing his head, looking at the surround area and then pointed at some huge boulder that has grass and bush that sticking onto it.

"There, the watcher remains should be there... I still remember it! Even though I was dying."

"This might be worth investigating." Thought the apprentice.

They both walk towards the place where hunting goes wrong happened. The apprentice looks closely at the surrounding, there's slight blood marks and trail of something being dragged.

"Huh there's nothing here? Maybe something ate the corpse?"

"Domy, did you being dragged when injured?"

"What? I don't know, I was pass out. But I'm pretty sure Hemeth wont drag me..."

"Heh.."

"Welll don't know if 'She' did, but I don't think she even want to touch me."

"If that's the case, something probably took and dragged the corpse."

"How do you know?"

"Is this guy actually a hunter or what?" The apprentice didn't said that out loud.

"... See that mark there? It looks like something is being dragged don't you think?"

"Huh?"

"It's a trail, if we follow, we might found it."

"Oh right!! Wow you would be a great hunter at this rate Mr.Apprentice!"

"Riight... it's Matt."

"Eh?"

"It's weird to call me apprentice don't you think?"

"Ah sorry... I've been wanted to asked, but I... deepest apology!!"

"It's fine, you worried about your girl, anyway we should try following it. Who knows, She's might be the one who drag it."

"She's a FRIEND!" Shout Domy.

The two followed the trails, it's not for from the scene until it hits a dead end.

"Nothing huh?"

"Did it dissappear by itself?"

"Someone probably lift it at this end."

"Well... why is it important? It's just a dead watcher, or probably something else."

"Anything that people think has value in it is important, which makes the watcher corpse might be important. Besides, I don't think so, the trail is kind of deep, it carved with something sharp, most likely the watcher beak."

"I see... I wonder how long it's been since someone took it."

"Don't know, I can see the trail, but I'm not an expert yet to tell when. It could be few hours ago or days ago or weeks. The trail is hard to remove since its marked on hard plains."

"We should hurry on our track then."

Domy turn his back, he didn't care about any of it once he realized it wont help him finding Avarice. He then started running again. Matt looked pale while watching Domy's back, as if he was praying for the guy to just stop going so fast.

"Master... I hope this is truly worth it..."Said Matt with silent voice.
