Stuffed into the tiny backseat, I tried to glance at the sights on the way to see this so called king. I still had my doubts, I mean after all who wouldn't. But as far as coma fuelled dreams go, this probably isn't the worst I could have. It seems to be a mix between two different eras in the past, but damn what do chicks have against pants? My grandmother always preached how women wearing pants was a sin, but even for her era that was weird. I'm excited to see the castle, the town is absolutely beautiful, I can only imagine what the castle may look like. What a wonderful fantasy, I hope I'm not dead!
I stuffed my face against the small window, dirt accumulated quickly from all of the dusty roads so I couldn't see anything, but I tried; the view I saw from the windshield was amazing though, this world didn't seem to have too many cars, seems people still preferred the old tried and true horse and buggy. I wonder how expensive cars are though, even where I come from buying a new car will put you in debt for years. Do they have credit cards here?
The car came to a jerky stop with its brakes squealing sending me launching forward, because again, no seat belts. Who needs safety, am I right? In the front seats Max motioned for Abby to step outside, where Max whispered something apparently shocking Abby. She looked at me, then back at him. Just what is going on.
Deciding I had enough of being the bystander and away from the action, I popped open the car door, but their conversation abruptly came to a halt. Uh okay, rude much? “So uh whats going on?” I inquired, trying to pretend I had no idea they were hiding something from me.
The hush hush conversation came to a screeching halt. “Er, we better just go in.” Max muttered turning away toward the castle. The castle itself was so beautiful up close, I’ve never seen anything like it, I was awestruck. Everything was perfect, honestly I was super excited to see the inside. I might as well take full advantage of this coma dream, I even get to meet the King! I wonder what kind of guy he is?
Abby tried to hustle me along with them, but I had to stop and admire the crystal on the castle some more, it gleamed smartly in the sunlight. It would be so wonderful to live in this world, everything was so beautiful despite being old fashioned. I probably wouldn’t be able to survive without technology though, I’ve become so dependent on it.
Abby huffed, “Please Kerri follow me.” Snapping back to reality I decided to follow her, after all who would give up the opportunity to see inside such a beautiful crystal castle.
“I’m coming. Stop pulling my arm! You’ll pull it right out of the damn socket.”
“Language!” She gasped. What? I only said damn.
We quickly followed Max to the gate, which was guarded with many knights who had both shields with an emblem I didn’t recognize and a sharp, shiny sword. Oooo I wanna try out one of those swords! I thought to myself, conjuring up scenes from my favorite video games. Up ahead the guards hustled to open the iron looking gate, it too had the emblem on it that I didn’t recognize. They obviously respected Max, but it sounds like Max is pretty close to the king, they’re even moving into the castle soon. I mean the castle is huge so I bet they aren’t lacking room. He called over to us. “Hurry up.” We rushed to keep up with him, my short legs can only walk so fast!
Once inside the gate, there were even more knights walking about and guarding the big castle doors. Beautiful women were walking around in the garden. They too had long flowing dresses which were more exquisite than I have ever seen before. No doubt here they cost more than my monthly salary with jewels to adorn them. Everything about them were perfect it seems, right out of a fairytale, including the dainty parasols they carried lightly over their shoulders, walking around the path by the pond. It was clear the knights on duty were ogling them. I wonder if those women were nobles or daughters of nobles.
The guards stood aside when they saw Max, but they looked shocked when their stares fell on me. I wanted to sass them, like take a picture, it'll last longer, but I held my tongue and silently passed them, why is everyone acting so weird? I didn’t want to ruin my chance of seeing inside the castle though. As I stepped inside the first room, I for sure wasn’t disappointed! I marveled and took in the sights. The long hallway had many connecting rooms, but the double doors at the end of the hall obviously led to something important. The room itself had intricate marble flooring, with maids bustling about, some scrubbing the floor, others with silver trays of food in their hands. They all stopped their chore that had them hustling, one of the maids even dropped her silver tray. What the hell?!
Max marched confidently on, passing more knights on his way to the double doors, ignoring the shocked stares of the maids. Abby and I followed him, at this point I kind of wanted to bolt, after all I saw the castle. He swung the double doors open as more knights stood aside. Ushering me with him. “The king should be inside.”
