It was hard to wake up. I looked at my phone to check the time. It was 9 am. Five hours of sleep. It's been worse, but still. I got up and dressed up.
I put on my glasses, a black v-neck shirt, black ripped skinny jeans, black and silver bracelets, black slip-on sneakers with a white sole, and a turquoise gem on a thin golden chain, same as last two days. I packed up some stuff I wanted to show Ánná and went downstairs for breakfast.
I ate as fast as I could and left after finishing. Mum didn't even ask where I was going, she trusts me enough. I took my bike and went out.
I was back at the lair. The wolfs were as calm as last time. Ánná was sitting by her cave, facing the sun. She noticed me and waved at me. I ran up to her.
'Hi there. How's your morning going?' I asked awkwardly.
'It's going well, it's just this body I'm not used to.'
'Don't worry, you'll get used to it in no time.' As I was talking, I pulled out my camera and a photo album.
I then tried to explain to her how a camera works. She kept nodding the whole time, but it felt like she didn't get it. I took a picture of a flower nearby and showed it to her. She wanted to try it out as well, so we looked for something interesting.
We came to the fjord outside the forest. The town I was staying in was to our left. She took a picture of a broken bridge near us. It looked very professional. We then took a selfie together. She looked surprised.
'That's what I look like?' she said and pointed at the image.
'Yeah... you forgot, or...?'
'Yes, it's been a while...'
'You're really pretty, you know.'
'Aw thank you!' Her eyes sparkled when I said that.
'Wanna look for more stuff?'
'Yes please!'
We walked around the forest and took pics of flowers and a few animals. We even found a few deer. Ánná walked up to them and pat one of them. I tried to do that too, but the deer ran away. We just kinda laughed at it and headed towards the lair.
We were going through the pictures in front of her cave while the wolf that brought here yesterday was sleeping and Ánná was playing with a pup. I told her about my nightmare from last night. She had curious look on her face, but then she just kept looking down at the pup on her lap and patting her. After I finished talking, she looked up, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. Then she looked at me and said:
'It's true, all of it...'
'If it's okay, may ask how you escaped?'
She looked at the pup again.
'Whenever I'm in danger, I turn into my wolf form without my control. It feels like it's trying to protect me. So I did that, simply ran through the fire to the forest, and I've been here ever since...'
She looked at me again.
'Why do you think they did that?'
'Because... they found out about your wolf form?'
'No, they already knew. They knew since I was born. My mother was a human, my father was a werewolf. They said they were gonna treat me like a human if I'm gonna act like one. For a long time, I did. I only used my wolf form around my mother. When I was ten, my mother died so I had to live on my own. I never met my father, but after mama died, I was constantly teased about it. One day when I was fifteen, I got attacked and took on my wolf form. The kids ran and I turned back into a human. The day after, townsfolk ran into my home, tied me up, and took me the town square. And you know what happens next.'
We stayed quiet for a while.
'You okay?' I asked cause she looked anxious.
'Yes, don't worry. It's just... strange talking about it.'
'I'm sorry for bringing that up.'
'It's alright, at least I feel like I can trust someone with it.'
'Glad to be at your service.'
She giggled.
'By the way, Beth?'
'Hm?'
'I assume people wear different clothes nowadays, right?'
She was wearing something like victorian pyjamas.
'Oh yeah, clothes nowadays are pretty comfy. Girls are now allowed to wear pants, we don't have to hide our legs, make our short, et cetera.'
She looked at my clothes with amazement.
'If you don't mind, can you get some for me too?'
'Yeah of course.'
She got really excited and thanked me. The sun started to set, so we said our goodbyes, and I ran off.
Ánná's view:
After Bethany left, I sat down and stared into the sky. It felt so amazing, someone treating like I'm normal. The wolfs started to sniff me. They usually do this when I'm feeling happy. I haven't been happy in a long time...
