Ever since Dolly introduced him to Mr. Zeman that day, Adlai had to attend directly to him with increasing frequency. His new boss seemed nice enough, but then again he wouldn`t really know since Mr. Zeman didn`t seem to like to get personal. Adlai brought him documents or his schedule but never got more than a `thank you` in return, no attempt to make small talk or to communicate thoughts.
It didn`t really bother him - he after akk had enough to things that he needed to think about so it did never get boring - and there was Dolly, for now - but he didn`t really like these thoughts. He would welcome any distraction.
The last couple of days he had successfully dodged any interaction with his mother and stepfather. And he had managed to find an apartment - it was a little far from his workplace but he could just use public transport. AND best of all he was actually able to sign a lease agreement with his first paycheck and the little money he had saved.

Adlai planned to get his stuff from his mother`s apartment today and move into his own new one. His half sister was coming back the day after tomorrow. The landlord at his new place had told him that the basic furniture was provided.
It was currently 10 pm and he stood in front of the apartment complex where his mother`s was.
He opened the front door as quietly as possible and sneaked up the stairs. His bags were all packed and ready, he just needed to grab them.
Just as he was closing his half sister`s room a deep voice said behind him: "I hope you weren`t planning on leaving without paying me back."
"Pay you back?" He said without turning around to his stepfather.
"Of course, maybe your mother would let you stay for free but this is my place and I expect payment."
I don`t owe you anything.
Wishing he could say that he finally turned around, facing the man behind him.
A sickening silence streched on until he felt like he would be sent to kingdom come at any moment now.
"How much do you want?"
"One thousand Dollar.", was the answer.
That was way too much!
"I`ll have it ready in a week."
And that`s all he said before he stormed out, passing his mother at the doorway of the living room, into the darkness in search of the nearest bus stop.
