There he sat on his golden throne looking like, well like a king. I was expecting an older man with a lovely queen at his side, but this guy looked to be in maybe his thirties. Honestly, he looked magnificent. Everything from his shiny crown sitting snugly on his perfect golden hair, to the mesmerizing clothes. White was for sure his color. His eyes were so blue the sky itself would be ashamed. There was a hint of muscles beneath his white suit, I couldn’t help but stare a bit.
There was a woman in a skirt suit near him, she however, was not as glamorous, but lackluster in comparison. She kept her hair up tightly in a bun with thick round glasses, like the stereotypical librarian. “Sir.” She gasped, almost dropping the champagne glass she held. “She’s here.” They both glanced up, I swear I could almost see a slight grin in the corner of the king’s mouth, almost an evil grin. What am I to them?
“Indeed.” He replied, standing up from the golden throne. The other one sat empty so I knew the librarian looking lady wasn’t the queen. Without even looking at me he faced Max. “Bring her this way.” He motioned toward one of the many doorways within the castle.
I glanced back toward the way we came in. At this point I got to see the castle as I wanted and even met the king. I’ve overstayed my welcome in this coma induced world, and in all honesty ready to go back. Everyone here is weird and I wanna play video games.
Noticing I wasn’t following, the king came up beside me and grabbed my arm. “Don’t even think about it dear.” Which made me think about running even more, I tried to shake off his hand, but the grip was too strong. He still had the smirk on his face, but damn it was cute. “I’m taking you to meet the queen, the love of my life.”
Wow. I thought, obediently following Max and the king. Abby stayed behind with the stern looking woman. I even get to meet the Queen. What a day to remember, well that is if I’m not dying.
We entered a bedroom, with many nurses and doctors surrounding the bed, which had the curtain drawn so I couldn’t see the queen, but she had to have been in bad shape with all the hospital staff bustling about.
Max sharply inhaled. “Kerri.” He began. “Brace yourself. This isn’t going to be easy for you. Leah, you best explain to her first.”
A woman who was sitting beside the bed slowly rose out of her chair. She didn’t look like one of the nurses, she must have been the queen’s friend. She slowly moved the curtain back, revealing the sickly woman asleep in bed. “Queen Gwendalyn doesn’t have much longer I’m afraid.” With tears in her eyes she motioned me forward to get a better look at the queen.
I gasped. “Why does she look like me?” She looked so much like me but different in many ways. Max and the king stood in the back of the room quiet.
“My dear.” Leah gently placed her hand on my shoulder as I studied the queen. “She is you.”
“What?! How is that possible?!”
