Ella stretched her new body, digging claws into the moist soil, and lifted her tail high. Though her body had changed, she still retained her same moss green eyes and cinnamon hair color. Apart from the mind, it was the only remnants of her human self left.
Putting her nose to the wind, she sniffed in a short burst, in an instant, the forest became alive with new smells. But she was searching for a specific scent she already knew.
Lifting her nose to the air again, she sniffed, she had found it. It was the scent of musk and earth, an elk, and a male one at that, a buck. Her tail wagged in excitement at the thought of finding him.
He was a worthy prey for hunt. Smelling the air one last time, she honed in on the direction of his scent. She darted forward racing in a singular purpose, Ella's prey was not far, Ella would take the buck without him knowing.
Not as fun but the easiest way to dig into it.
Slowing down, she sensed she was very near to the prey. Lowered herself to the ground, she creeps up slowly to make wary of making a sound. Silence came with some trouble due to her large size.
Coming to a thicket, she saw the buck bedded down and asleep, he was large, well built with muscle, and there was a twelve-point rack of antlers atop his head.
Just ten meters away, It was so close, but the bushes were thick all around, making the approach to him difficult.
Ella searched the thicket from an opening big enough for her to slip through, she was in luck, Ella had picked up on the buck's very own opening it made for itself through repeated traffic.
In a low crawl, Ella pushed her way through. She was so close now. She could not stop the rush of excitement that passed through her body.
Swish swish swish.
Without thinking, her tail started to wag and beat the plants she had just crawled past. The buck darted it's head up. The elk had woken up from the sound of Ella's tail. It looked her right in the eyes. It stood quickly and bore its horns in her direction.
How could I be so clumsy?
Baring her fangs, Ella lowered her body, making herself ready for an attack. She growled low, hoping to intimidate the elk enough to run. If it turned its back, she could use that opening for a strike.
The buck had little fear of her and stood its ground puffed up in its defensive stance, downturned head with antlers pointed out.
The hunt had become much more dangerous than she anticipated, she was large, but the elk were much more, and its antler could gore her mortally. Ella circled the buck looking for her opportunity to strike.
The elk's weak legs. It rotated its body following her. She needed an opening in its defense. But buck stood its ground only moving enough to match Ella's movements.
Darting forward, Ella snapped at the buck legs. Moved its head in the direction of the attack, the buck had blocked her advance.
The elk's tight muscles slowed his movements. Ella wagged her tail in excitement. She had found her way past his antlers.
With a grunt, the elk followed her moves with its head, trying to keep its body covered but seemed to struggle to keep up with Ella's speed.
Seeing an opening, she leaped forward with all her strength and snapped her jaw on to the buck's right leg and shoulder. Biting hard, she felt the crunch of bones. The bite wound sprayed blood in her mouth.
It was sweet on her tongue. The buck bellowed in pain and started fighting to keep its balance but fell as his attacker jerked her head hard to the left.
Toppling over the elk kicked furiously with it's three good legs in Ella's direction, but she had already leaped back, leaving a tear where she bit.
Ella stood poised for her next attack. She now had an advantage over her prey.
