[An's POV]
It's funny seeing Zephyr went all meek and nervous around his grandfather. Am I enjoying this? Of course.
"I can totally see the amusement in your eyes, An."
I turned to look at Jason who was helping me in the kitchen by washing and rinsing the fresh ingredients. He told me that his dad seriously banned him from cooking or baking or doing anything involving fire and food, so I just entrusted him with the safest thing to do. Kind of like kids level of helping their parents cook.
"I admit that seeing Zephyr suffer is now my happiness bringer," I responded nonchalantly while shrugging my shoulders.
Jason grinned widely, showing his pearly white rows of teeth. After he sent me to Zephyr's old apartment the other day, I made him acted casual around me. It felt really weird for me when other people speak so formal and stiff. Especially older people like Jason. When I found out that he was the same age as Zephyr, which is eight years older than me, I was so surprised. I thought that Jason was older. He certainly did acted more mature than his age, especially on how he handled Zephyr's less matured attitude.
After Jason finished rinsing the vegetables, I told him to cut them into smaller pieces. I was planning to cook some Japanese curry after I found out that Master Blakesley loved Japanese curry. Thankfully, Jason had already prepared some rice, so all I had to do was to wash the rice and cook it in the rice cooker. I wonder, did Jason prepared the rice cooker too? It was very unusual to have a rice cooker here unless if the Blakesleys were Asian.
THUNK! THUNK!
I flinched in shock when the sudden loud noise shocked me back to reality. When I turned around, I found Jason holding the knife like he was trying to stab people. My eyes went so wide that I though it was gonna popped out. Jason did another attempt to cut the carrot, but before he could murder the carrot more, I stopped him.
"Are you a serial killer?" I asked him calmly.
"What? No?"
Why are you answer that with a question, Mr Jason?!
"You're holding it wrong," I informed him and quickly helped him to hold the knife correctly. Now I know why his cooking was a disaster.
I suddenly heard a short cackle coming from the couch in the living area that was located at the opposite side of the kitchen. My eyes was automatically directed to the sound and saw Zephyr was staring at us with an amused face. He smirked at me before shifting his attention towards his phone screen.
I ignored the alpha and once again paid my full attention to whatever was happening in the kitchen. I could see he was staring at us through the microwave oven screen, and it was so distracting. I wish I could just chased him away from me, but I was not in the position to order him around, because apparently I was just a lowly paid wife according to the highly respected alpha.
I quickly finished cooking our lunch with Jason's help and served it on the table. Along with the Japanese curry and rice, I made some Salisbury steak and another dish that I wasn't so sure the name because I just threw all kinds of leftover ingredients in one frying pan and sauteed it as I like until it edible.
Jason went to call Brian and Master Blakesley, and I was left alone with Zephyr in the same space. It was so awkward. Both of us was clearly wanted to avoid each other but we couldn't given the situation. I heard from Jason that Zephyr despised omega and would flipped out if he smelled an omega's scent. So, out of consideration, I ate some pills to block my pheromones from leaking out. I would hate it if he keep on antagonizing me just because of my leaking pheromones and my status as an omega.
When Master Blakesley, Brian and Jason appeared, Zephyr quickly went to the dining table and sat next to his grandfather without caring about anything other than the food that Jason and I had served. I did realized that he was eyeing the food for a few minutes now.
"What are you doing standing and not taking a seat? Come here!" Master Blakesley patted the table on his right side and gestured to me to sit on the seat next to him. I hesitantly sat on the comfy chair and waited for the seat next to me to be filled.
After making sure the three of us was comfortable, that was when Brian and Jason took their seat. They started eating after Master Blakesley took his bite.
Master's Blakesley's eyes automatically became wide the further he chewed his food. "It's so delicious, An! You should open a restaurant for this!"
I shook my head, feeling embarrassed by his excessive commentary. Then, the dining area became quiet once again.
The atmosphere was very stiff that it suffocating me. Nevertheless, I was hoping that the silence would last until we finished eating. At least that way, I wouldn't have to answer random questions from any of them.
"So, An."
Was my wish too much to ask, dear God?
"Do you have any place in mind for your honeymoon?"
Zephyr suddenly choked on his drink when he heard the shocking question by Master Blakesley. I guess the topic caught him off guard. Even I didn't expect Master Blakesley to ask me that unexpected question.
"H- honeymoon?! I- I'm sure An told me that he didn't want to go anywhere and he just wanted to stay at home. Right, An?" Zephyr clenched his teeth as he asked my confirmation.
Hello? Sir? Did you just gave up on trying to act like a pair of loving newlyweds? Because right now, I think your acting is really like an amateur, that a stoic guy like me could act better than you. You weren't going to fool anybody with your cheap act, you know?
Just so you know, of course we had never had that talk before, nor had I told him that. I had always find traveling as a dream of mine that I had no time nor money to help me to fulfill.
I stared at the deathly glare that 'my dearest husband' directed towards me. An out of the blue urge to annoy him started to fill my head. I ignored his harmless glare and went back to look at Master Blakesley's frowning face.
"Nonsense! An should have a few places in his mind that he should wanted to go," scolded Master Blakesley before turning his head in my direction to give me his full attention. His kind smile was decorating his worned out face that had devoured by time, instilling my heart with sympathy. Who would ever refuse this gentleman? Not me, for sure.
"Ignore him and tell Grand Daddy where do you want to go. I will arrange it all. You don't have to worry about money. Grand Daddy will do anything for my sweet An," he said as he held my left hand gently.
I wasn't used to having anyone to care for me except for Lyla. Even more so having someone to pamper or spoil me. So, when Master Blakesley started to treat me as if I was a precious being to him, it felt... unsettling and very uncomfortable.
I shook my head and glanced up to met the old gentleman's grey eyes. "I don't have anywhere I want to go. Besides, I'm not an outdoor person." I made some excuses. Half of it was the truth, another half was a lie. If I really wanted to go somewhere, I prefered to go with my own money that I earned with my blood, sweat and tears. Other reason was that I didn't feel like I had the right to enjoy my life with their money. After all, our relationship was just temporary and fake.
I could see Zephyr's relieved face after I rejected Master Blakesley's proposal. If only I could make any expression on my face, I would successfully sneer at him for being so annoying. He was the one who told me to act like a lovestruck newlywed, but instead, he was the one who kept on making honest reactions to every single things without holding back. Unfortunately, my face wouldn't convey my annoyance that well, so I refrained myself from reacted to the alpha.
I saw Jason's lips curled down as he shook his head in embarrassment. No worries, Jason. It wasn't your fault that you Young Master is a fool that was so honest with what was he thinking. Master Blakesley must have been expecting Zephyr's reactions because he just ignored every single failed attempts that his grandson made to appear more accepting to his wife, which was me.
Someone's phone was suddenly ringing loudly when we nearly finished our lunch. Zephyr flinched as he slowly took out his phone and switched to silence mode and continued eating. I saw Master Blakesley was eyeing his grandson, but he didn't say anything and instead shifting his attention yet again towards me.
"An, we are now your family. If you need anything or if something happened, don't hesitate to ask for our help. If you can't reach me, just ask Zephyr or Jason. Even Brian here will lend you his hand."
I stared at the old gentleman for a few seconds while my brain was trying to find a word to reply before finally I nodded slowly out of politeness. Frankly, their family really felt like stranger to me, and I didn't want to get used to having them by my side. Just in case Zephyr decided to divorce me, or when Master Blakesley decided to let me go. For me, Lyla was my only family. Even though right now she was nowhere to be found.
Once again, someone was calling Zephyr's phone. The vibration could be heard by everyone who was sitting on the dining table. Zephyr checked his phone and looked at Master Blakesley.
"It looked like something urgent. Can I-"
Master Blakesley waved his hand. "Just go!" he said with an annoyed face.
Zephyr grinned apologetically and stood up from his chair. He left the dining area to take his call. Master Blakesley looked at me with a sorry face and patted my shoulder gently.
"I'm sorry for making you marry Zephyr when you had the chance to choose someone much better than that brat. Even though he is my grandson, I know he had nothing good to offer to you. But, I really hope that by marrying you, he would change and become a better person. He is not bad inside. I know he can be loyal and gentle to the person he loves. I hope that person can be you."
I took down my cutlery and let out a short sigh. "There is a chance that he won't change because of me. Why didn't you just let him marry his girlfriend?"
Master Blakesley's eyes shifted for a moment, maybe because he didn't expect for ne to know about the girlfriend so soon? He looked at Jason, but Jason just shook his head and rolled his eyes to Zephyr's seat. Master Blakesley exhaled a long sigh before shaking his head in disbelief.
"He had been with the girl for years, yet he only gets worse. The girl influenced him in bad ways, making him arrogant and his hate towards omega deepens. I chose you because I know you can be a good influence to him," explained Master Blakesley with a forced smile.
"You have too high of an expectation for me," I mumbled.
