Leticia flipped through the green book which Chantel had given her earlier in the week. She had only skimmed through the book, just touching the ground basis of what her so-called “superpowers” are. Leticia rolled her eyes when she went to the chapter titled, “Bio-Kinesis”, then closed the book shut; she did not want to read more of it. Those Rise of Light people are liars, Raphael is out of his mind, and Chantel has drunk the Kool-Aid of this new-age nonsense.
I'm just a normal girl with a health problem and this is a sick joke.
Leticia thought this to herself because she refuses to believe that she is a freak. Those weird people. Leticia sat at her desk where her guitar, Chaos, stood by the window and she stared at the book. She looked back at her guitar again. Leticia named her guitar Chaos after her ‘chaotic’ personality and the fact that it sounded cool. People thought it made her sound like an edgelord, but she did not care.
She loved Chaos, and she was together with Leticia through and through. Leticia rubbed her temples as she felt a headache coming on.
Not again...
Leticia moved her arm to grab a small bottle of pills beside her. Leticia pushed the chair back to get up from her desk and leave her room. She headed to the kitchen to get some water. She opened the cabinet and got a glass cup, then filled it with water. The pain got worse!
She poured the water fast into the cup. While Leticia filled the cup, two big, dark arms hugged her waist from behind. Then she jumped in fright... bang! The glass cup fell down on the floor. It broke into pieces as Leticia looked up to see her boyfriend, Trenton, had tried to do a sneak attack on her.
She showed a face of annoyance at him as she was more mad that she broke the cup.
“Trenton, what the fuck?!” Leticia boomed.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Trenton said.
“I thought you could’ve been an ax murderer! Fuck, this was one of Linda’s good cups and she is going to kill me. How the hell am I going to replace this now?!” Leticia grabbed a broom and dustpan was on the side of the sink and swept the floor. “Look, maybe we should tone down on the sneak attack stuff.”
“Are you okay?” Trenton looked at her, while Leticia cleaned up the mess.
“I’m fine! Never better!” Leticia got up and put all the pieces of the glass cup into the trash.
She got another cup from the cabinet, then filled it up with water again.
“Are you sure? I mean, you have been getting headaches, and you have been constantly on edge all week. Maybe you should sit out the gig at Rockwick and let the rest of your band mates pick up the slack.” Trenton suggested.
Leticia opened the pill bottle then put the pill in her mouth. She gulped down some water to wash it down.
“Then Ray be on my ass for being a ‘no show’ again?! She is being a bitch lately. Heck, no! I’m going! Plus, Lily will finally be back today and I want to see her again.” Leticia coughed, drinking the water down fast.
“Okay, if you're sure. Is everything else okay?” Trenton continued to press the issue a bit as Leticia sighed.
“Baby, I’m fine. You just worry about your band and that bartender job that you have to do tonight. I’m a big girl and can handle myself.” Leticia looked at Trenton, then grabbed his shirt as she pulled him close to her. “I need to find you something fantastic for you to wear for your first night on the job.” Leticia pulled him to her room... well, their room... since they shared it together.
“Leticia, you don’t need to-” Trenton said, until Leticia interrupted.
“No, boyfriend is going to walk on the job being a fashion disaster!” Leticia brought Trenton into the room and rampaged through his side of the closet to find nice outfits that he could wear.
She had to take her mind off of things before she had to head out to meet up with her band. All that silly, supernatural stuff can wait. Trenton needs a fashion intervention! Yes, a fashion intervention! That is just what she needs!
However, this distraction didn't work at all. Before Leticia took out another one of his suits from the closet, she almost fell down to the floor to hold her head. Trenton caught her just in time as he pulled up the nearest chair. He made her sit down, while Leticia closed her eyes, then she once again rubbed her temples.
“Yeah, you’re not alright. You need to stay home.” Trenton holds her hand.
Then Leticia shot her eyes back open again.
“I’m fine! It just takes a little while for my meds to work. Just give me a second. I need a breather.” Leticia snapped, brushing some of her brunette hair out of her face.
She heard the door being knocked as Trenton gestured to her to stay in the chair, leaving the room to answer the door. Leticia sat in the chair as she heard the voices of Trenton and her best friend and band's drummer, Dakota, in the other room. She did not pay too much attention to the conversation since this headache is hell. Soon, Trenton brought Dakota in the room with her to check on her. Leticia felt Dakota grabbing her hands for comfort, then she looked up at her best friend.
She did not want Dakota seeing her in a position like this, but it was not like Dakota did not know what was going on. This sickness has been going on far too often compared to a year or two ago.
“Leticia, do you need to call out again? You don’t look too good.” Dakota stated.
“Dakota, don’t be such a worrywart!” Leticia stands up as she tries to ignore some of her pain. “I can still do it. Let me get my guitar. Then we can hit the road!”
“Still, Leticia… You should…” Trenton stopped talking and sighed when Leticia picked out more of his suits out of the closet and hands it to him.
“Here are some new suits you can wear to your new job. I think they would look good on you, don’t you think? You can choose which one you like the most. Okay, Trent?” Leticia smiled, which gave Dakota and Trenton confused faces when she changed the subject.
“Fine. If she says she is fine, then we can’t argue with her.” Dakota said.
“Good. Now that’s settled. I’m ready to go, Dakota. Rockwick, here we come!” Leticia pumped her fist up in the air, excited to head to their gig.
------
Sitting in a cramped van with five young women and a middle-aged woman for an hour had become a new regular normal. Touring around the area was exhausting for the past couple months. But she knew that her band got to strike the iron while it is hot dealing with their rising popularity. Overworking was not the best idea, but all five of the girls signed onto this. The van pulled into the parking lot where there is a red brick building where there was a back way for the performers only to enter.
A woman with blond hair, who wore business attire, came out of the van with Leticia. Leticia rubbed her head as she tried numbing the pain from her hellish headache.
“We’re just going to deal with some details and complete everything for your sound check rehearsal…” The woman stopped to look at Leticia, who didn’t pay attention to her, then raised her voice, “Leticia!”
“What? Yeah, Yeah… We’ll go inside and handle it. The other girls got the merchandise and they are taking them out of the trunk now.” Leticia waved her hand, then went back to rubbing her head.
“Leticia, are you sure you can do this?” The woman asked in concern.
“Lily, how many times do I have to tell you? I’m fine! Once we get the boring stuff done, I have to get Raleigh to see if she could meet with the sign language interpreters. We have to make sure we don’t have any other incidents like the last gig.” Leticia looked over to her band, who are bringing out boxes from the van.
“Ah, yes, it’s because the last venue didn’t place the interpreters where the deaf fans can see them. I remember the complaints. Raleigh wasn’t happy about that.” Lily walked with Leticia to the building then she opened the door.
“She wasn’t and Cho wasn’t happy either. Like what the hell with that?!” Leticia exclaimed as she still remembered what happened at the last gig. “That wasn’t the only issue…”
“Stalkers? Right?” Lily said.
“Creepy people who keep on following us.” Leticia had shivers down her spine when she remembers some random male fans just kept on stalking them and wouldn’t leave them alone.
“Did you use the buddy system?” Lily questioned.
“Yeah, I was with Dakota and a couple guys pretty much hit on me. We just ignored them like you told us, then they started calling us slurs and catcalling. They even said that Dakota was the ugliest person in the band. Thankfully, we got away from them quickly.” Leticia explained.
“Oh, I definitely need to check with the security to make sure that doesn’t happen.” Lily jotted down some notes in a notepad, holding it in her hand.
Their manager, Lily, had always kept notes of what happened in every gig they did. The girls always appreciated her for what she did. Leticia and Lily met with the stage manager as they are not the only ones there. Leticia saw Nick from The Hexes with another petite, dark-skinned woman with half braids and afro talking to him. Nick is fixing up his dark brown hair while he jabbered away to the woman.
Leticia knew about The Hexes from the festival last week, remembering the bitch who hit on her boyfriend. At least she knows that she will get back at Amelia this time. However, Leticia felt puzzled at the fact that The Hexes got booked at The Millennium Concert Hall that quickly for newbie artists?! It took the Apple Queens over a year to get themselves booked over here! The Millennium Concert Hall is one of the next steps for many artists, but it was hard to get booked at this place.
It wasn't a simple task for their managers, Lily and Topanga to get them in this place. This band must have some secret to get booked here so fast. Headaches pained her once again as Leticia tried her best to ignore the pain.
“It was so nice to see you again, Nick. You’re looking better now than we were back in school.” The girl said.
“Yeah. Just how are things going with you and Mikey, Jessica? You two still together?” Nick asked.
“We’re fine. In fact, we’re engaged! How is your boyfriend? I can’t wait to meet him one day!” The woman named Jessica exclaimed as she flashed her gold engagement ring.
Leticia’s face became pale as it showed boredom from overhearing the conversation. After Nick finished talking to Jessica, he hugged and left, saying goodbye to her. Leticia observed Jessica walking past her as she felt a surge of incredible vibration through her body!
“What was this feeling?!” Leticia thought. She felt that the ground had moved, or at least in her mind.
She looked at her surroundings, and people acted normal. Leticia shrugs as she turns her attention back to her business. Maybe she was more sick than she thought.
