“What’s taking Nick so long?!” Amelia whined.
Amelia is the lead vocalist and face of The Hexes. Well, Electra Star and The Hexes, that is. Her stage name is Electra Star obviously, and it was not much of a secret.
“Be patient, Amelia! Man, you can be so naggy sometimes,” The Hexes, keyboardist, Toby said.
Amelia sighed loudly as she could not take all this waiting! Therefore, that's why Nick is the leader and not her, she had no patience for the boring stuff. She and her band mates are backstage chatting with the other musicians. It is weird being in an area where her band mates may not use their powers. Hauling their instruments using no powers is hell in her mind.
A society where there are no powers is just strange. Amelia knew it existed, but being immersed with this culture was different. Amelia sat in a chair then watched the musicians left and right. It was amazing how there were so many talented people in the room. She looked over to see two girls that were familiar as they walked inside as a group.
She recognized the girls were from the Apple Queens. She saw one blond-haired girl, who is wearing a black fishnet sleeve shirt and jeans. Amelia knew that the girl is Raleigh Lane and another girl, who wore a black panama hat and short blue dress named Cho Nari Paek. Amelia became interested in getting to know these girls. The best idea to survive in this business is to make connections like they always say.
Amelia nudged her band mate, Nicola, who is too busy tuning up her bass guitar. She watched Nicola huff and roll her eyes at her in response to her nudge.
“Amelia, what do you want?” Nicola took off her earphones as she looked at Amelia.
“Look… Two of the Apple Queens members. I was thinking we should talk to them for a bit.” Amelia suggested.
“Why should we? I think they want to be alone.” Nicola said then puts her headphones back in then muttered. “They are just a bunch of Outsiders and it wouldn't be a good idea to hang around them ‘cuz we have powers, ya’ know?”
“But we’re supposed to be networking! Now, to think about it… I just felt a strange aura among that band. It’s kind of the same as we felt with the NorthEasters.” Amelia scratched her head a bit, then her face went into her “thinking” mode.
Being a magic user, it is normal for them to read aura around them constantly and their extensive aura reading training showed that. Amelia closed her eyes to think back to the time her band was at the Clare Point View Music Festival. Amelia met with tons of musicians, some old and young, which made everything interesting to her! She ignored the musicians, who were Outsiders much, but she noticed the exorbitant amount of aura around her. All of that came from Supernatural musicians she met with.
While it shocked her, her band knew about this ahead of time. Clare Point View has huge Supernatural population for being an “anchor town” to the nearby Supernatural Town, Roseland. It was a law for Supernaturals meant to be hidden, not seen. That means: No showing off your powers; no revealing to the Average Joe about being a Supernatural. It was hard; every handshake that Amelia took, she bit her lip to not bring up that this person is an elf in disguise or just some other telekinetic person as her first impression!
“Do not talk about magical or Supernatural stuff to those people. Wear these wristbands to keep your powers suppressed. Be there to do your business, then leave. If you want to make it far beyond the Supernatural community, then play the role you are to do when you walk around the non-Supernatural turf.” The Hexes’s manager advised the band before they left for their tour.
Their manager could not go with them, due to the fact that the “rules” did not accept people of his “kind” to adventure out in the Outsider territory. The musicians back in the band’s old turf ground, City Square, laughed at The Hexes’s venture outside of the supernatural community.
“Those Outsiders will never accept you!”
Those words from the other indie artists in City Square were hurtful, but it only made the band more determined to make it outside of their comfort zone. Maybe one day, Supernatural artists can be open and Outsiders would be less afraid of them. Amelia grabbed her wrist again as she glanced down at her magical suppression wristband. There is already a red mark on her wrist, where the wristband rubbed up against her skin. Wearing these wristbands were a pain as the longer the band members could not use their powers, the more restless they would become.
Finally, when The Hexes’s leader, Nick had returned to the group, Amelia felt relieved that all the boring stuff finished. Suddenly, Amelia felt her body shaking everywhere! She held her stomach and bowed her head, feeling nauseous. What also didn’t help…. her wristband is vibrating, non-stop!
Amelia swift her hand up in the air for Nick’s attention. He glanced at her and Amelia looked back at him with a worried look on her face.
“Amelia? What’s wrong?” Nick asked.
“I need… you know, that sickness break?” Amelia tilted her head toward the backstage door, then showed her vibrating wristband at him.
“Didn’t you just have a break like an hour ago? Why are you taking so many breaks in an hour?” Nick spat back as Amelia’s face puffed out in a bit of anger.
“Well, Nick, you’re not the one wearing the wristband here! I wouldn’t be such a B if the stupid magic suppression wristband wasn’t killing me, you know?!” Amelia shouted at him loud enough where the other musicians looked at their direction.
Toby pulled Amelia aside, then the entire band had to leave the backstage at once! Once the entire band went to a private place outside. They huddled to near an area where there were big green trees and large circular shaped bushes. Amelia looked at her band mates, who eyed at her in disapproval for almost nearly blowing their cover. Nick took a deep breath before he had to say anything to Amelia.
“Look, I’m sorry I said that. It is just hard for me to know how many breaks you guys need since you know my negation powers… I don’t have to use the wristband unlike you guys.” Nick said.
“To be fair, we didn’t have a lot of time this morning to release our powers to prevent this shitty Maldoy sickness.” Gabriel, the Hexes drummer finally spoke up as the entire group turned his attention to him.
“No kidding because my aura level is going ridiculously crazy as we speak! If my brother and I can’t exercise our telekinesis, then we’re going to die at this point.” Nicola complained.
“And the fact, we had to learn how to transport our instruments around without using a single power is so hard…” Toby’s voice rose with a whining tone, which prompted Nick to roll his eyes at Toby’s response.
“It’s not that hard to carry instruments from one place to another, without using your powers, jeez fuck. You don’t always need your damn powers to do that. Look, we’re going to play the part here to work among the Outsiders! Stop complaining about little shit like this!” Nick crossed his arms and gave a sharp glance at Toby.
“It’s so easy for you to say because you are kind of like part-Outsider anyway!” Nicola sassed to their leader, then the whole band went to argue with each other at once!
Amelia sighed because all she wanted was a damn sickness break to get her Aura level back to normal. While her group fought, she headed away from the area into the forest to release her Aura. Amelia took out her magical flute and found herself a spot where there seem to be more “sick” trees that she can heal with her magic. Before she could move into the spot, she heard loud puking noises from a girl. Amelia moved in closer to see that girl!
That mean girl at the festival that was being snarky to her about flirting with her tall, black boyfriend. Amelia scratched her head to remember her name again and after all she helped her with her little fashion emergency!
"Her name… Her name…. Oh, right, Leticia! Leticia is her name," she thought.
Amelia looked at Leticia, who keeled down on the ground, hurling and holding her stomach in pain. She saw Leticia’s long hair was up in a messy ponytail to avoid all the puke getting into her hair. Amelia suddenly felt this energy of Aura knock into her face and it was almost enough to feel a huge rise of Supernatural energy coming from Leticia. It was weird, why didn’t she feel this before when she met Leticia at the festival? Was she a Supernatural too?
Amelia came up to check on her and spoke, “Hey, are you okay?” As she pulled out a handkerchief for Leticia to wipe her mouth.
Leticia bolted up, then stepped away from Amelia before she could approach her. Amelia watched Leticia’s face change from shock back to normal again. Leticia put her hands on her hips then glared at Amelia intensely.
“Oh, it’s you again! So, you’re back to fight with me to steal my boyfriend again?” Leticia spat. Amelia stepped back, bewildered with this girl’s response towards her.
“For the last time, I didn’t know that Trenton is your boyfriend! I thought he was single. Seriously, what girl holds a grudge towards someone over some silly mistake?! I’m over your boyfriend! Let it go!” Amelia shot back and walked up to Leticia, which made Leticia back up a bit.
Amelia had her magic flute in her hand and pointed at Leticia as she waved in the girl’s face to intimidate her.
“Unlikely story…” Leticia pushed her flute out of her face, then walked beside Amelia. “Just stay away from my boyfriend, you little trick.”
“I’ll show you a little trick!” Amelia shouted back at Leticia in anger as she pulled off her wristband.
Amelia put her mouth on her flute as she had to think of an attack music spell to scare this foolish girl. Her mind raced to find the one attack spell she knew that would be just a little harmless. She played her flute as a surge of energy built around Leticia. The energy was so big as the energy ball started grow into a large bomb! Amelia watched Leticia, who stopped walking, as she turned to look at her full of shock and fear.
The more Amelia played her flute, the bigger the bomb would be. Before she could stop playing and threw the bomb at Leticia, another magic made her bomb disappear in a portal! Amelia knew who’s magic it was! It was Toby, who came out from behind her from the bushes and he had followed her.
Toby ran to Amelia’s side, and he grabbed her flute away from her, stopping the attack. “Give me back my flute, Toby! I want to teach this little Queen Bitch a lesson!” Amelia tried to grab her flute until Toby created a portal and almost put her flute in there.
“Only if you stop using your magic to attack this girl!” Toby threatened her, still holding her flute close to the portal, implying that he will throw the flute in there.
Amelia bit her lip, then took a breath, and sighed, “Fine. I won’t attack her.”
The portal disappeared once Toby gave the flute back into Amelia. Amelia looked up at Leticia, who stood frozen in her spot, not wanting to move. She watched Leticia raised her finger up at them, then screamed, “You’re one of those freaks! Stay away from me!”
“Freaks!? You’re the one to talk when I can feel your aura stinking up the place!” Amelia yelled back at her.
“I don’t have a freaking Aura! I’m not like you freaks! Where the hell you guys come from?!” Leticia raised her voice at her then Amelia giggled to herself at Leticia .
“Oh my gosh, you don’t know what an Aura is? Wait, you’re in complete denial of what you really are? Little girl, you’re lucky that you caught me on a good day or you would be way worse with that bomb heading towards you.” Amelia said until Toby waved his hand at her to stop talking.
“Amelia, stop, just stop. This is not worth it. Now you put us in danger! What the hell you were thinking using your magic in front of a stranger!?” Toby scolded her.
“I’m getting out of here. I won’t tell anything about your freakish powers to the cops. Just stay the hell away from me. You freaky magicians.” Leticia warned the two of them that is when Amelia walked up to Leticia’s face again.
“Good. I just hope the leader of your band kicks you out for your shitty attitude.” Amelia spat, then Leticia cackled in response before she walked off.
“Bitch… I AM the leader of the band! Have a nice day.” Leticia smirked at Amelia, then she turned around to walk away.
Amelia watched Leticia leave Toby and her as she clutched her flute in anger. Amelia headed back to the concert hall with Toby, as she is still fuming at what happened in the woods. After so much scolding from Toby, Amelia did not feel sorry for attempting to put Leticia in line. She still had to deal with Nick, who did more scolding with her when Toby ratted her out about using her powers in the sight of a stranger. Amelia is just lucky that she did it in front of a Supernatural.
Freaks? Screw Leticia for looking down on people like her! Who the hell she thinks she is? Why would she want to be normal when being a Supernatural is awesome in Amelia’s eyes?
Amelia took a glance at The Apple Queens, who is with their manager, while Nick was lecturing her.
Amelia can feel Aura energy coming from her manager and Leticia. She wonders to herself if the entire band knew they were harboring, not one, but two Supernaturals in secret. Looking at the girls joking and laughing with each other. Amelia guessed that the non-Supernaturals band mates are just ignorant to know about them. In her mind, Outsiders are ignorant about the amount of Supernaturals living among them.
Amelia would pity Leticia’s mindset more, if she wasn’t such a bitch to her.
