The Last Sin

Chapter 04 : Sister Martha (part 02)

Chapter 04 : Sister Martha (part 02)

Sep 13, 2020

As they slowly toured the orphanage, Sister Martha pointed at several places and introduced them to the silent Azel.

“You don’t talk much, do you?” Sister Martha said. Azel hadn’t said anything from the moment they met each other until now. All he did was nod his head as she alone talked.

Azel seemed to come out of his ‘reverie’ and said, “I’m sorry. I still can’t wrap my head around why such good things are happening to me. A few hours ago, I was unsuccessfully scavenging for scraps behind restaurants.”

“Yes, Mr Stewart likes to help the needy. It’s like his mission in life. I’ve never seen him turn someone down.” Sister Martha said.

“You seem to admire him a lot.” Azel’s plan was starting to take shape.

She averted her eyes from him for a second then said, “Who doesn’t. Everyone admires him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a Saint sent down by our Lord to guide our poor souls.”

Azel felt himself swallow a lump of saliva. He hadn’t been briefed that people already saw his target as a Saint. He said, “A Saint? Are you sure? On what basis can you even say that?”

“Well, he once prayed for a sick man and said man was instantly healed… He also prayed for a woman who was dying of childbirth and saved her and the baby. Around here, it is known that his prayers have more chances at being heard by our lord than anyone else. He accomplishes miracles every now and then and he’s the only reason this orphanage still stands. A pious and selfless man like him would never abandon these poor kids.” Sister Martha said with a smile.

‘It seems her adulation is more inclined towards her faith in Mark Stewart than a trace of lust as I had seen earlier. But I can still corrupt her all the same.’ Azel thought.

“Does he have a family? A wife? Kids?” Azel asked.

“No. He doesn’t.” She was about to tell Azel Mark’s entire life’s story but stopped. It wasn’t proper for her to say it.

“He’s past his prime…but he could still have a wife and kids. Perhaps he has yet to find the fated person.”Azel said as he read her mind to see if his words had sparked something inside of her.

Nothing.

It seems she was still a pure lamb both in body and spirit.

Azel then decided to spice things up by making many suggestive images appear in her mind. Images like her being pregnant of Mark’s kids. Images of kids playing around in the yard of a beautiful two story house. Images of their intertwined naked bodies making love.

Many suggestive images appeared in the poor nun’s mind and she didn’t know where to put herself. She was so ashamed of herself that she unconsciously covered her reddened face with both hands.

Azel released a silent chuckle and marveled at his work. It wasn’t hard for a demon to implant thoughts and desires in a mortal’s mind. They could make you see anything they wanted you to see and while they couldn’t make you forget anything, they could distract you with more thoughts than you could handle, thus giving you the impression that you forgot what you needed to remember.

And who would even go as far as think that his mind had been hijacked by a Celestial Being? You would just assume that those thoughts and desires were yours to begin with therefore trapping yourself in the trap laid out by someone else.

Young Sister Martha was on the verge of crying as she was being cheated by the smiling demon beside her. ‘How could I have such perverted thoughts. I gave my body to Christ.’ She thought as the images multiplied. It never occurred to her that she was being manipulated.

‘Soon, those thought and desires will take root within her and unless there’s some kind of divine intervention, her mind will surely fall into depravity. I just have to make sure that I periodically show those images to her.’ Thought Azel.

To have some fun, he asked the young nun whose red face was hidden in her hands, “Are...are you alright Sister Martha?”

"My mission is to make this so called Saint fall into depravity...."

It's not hard to believe that the demons have nothing better to do than to make us all renounce our faith and fall into depravity.

They have lost the war, the price of their rebellion being too hard to swallow even for celestial beings such as themselves.

...And the instrument of their hatred, humans, suddenly becomes everything they can think about : They must bring as many humans as they can in hell to keep them company. After all, what's an eternity without a kindred spirit to torture every now and then. They had rebelled against being servants to these weak humans and now they had the chance to vent their anger for all eternity.

While one was torturing the other, the fact remained that they would both suffer from the same excruciating pain for all eternity : Being so far away from that soothing light exuded by the father of all. After all, Hell was just that : Pain for all eternity.

***

Azel, a low ranked demon, had been tasked to tempt a man. A holy man.

In the beginning, it was just a simple routine mission. A kind of mission he excelled at with a good track record.

...But he never imagined that the man filled with righteousness would eventually become a Saint because of his involvement in the man's life.

It wasn't hard to make a Saint fall. They were after all still humans.

You just needed to find their weak spot. Something that they held dear and that despite the amount of faith they had, they could still have that moment of distraction, long enough for Azel to strike.
