The heat from the sun glares down on Lonato and Sirius as they walk through the grassy plains. The lush forest labyrinth they departed from was growing smaller as they moved further and further away from it. Lonato had to face multiple ordeals during his stay in the forest only for him to encounter yet another one.
I can't believe how scorching hot it is, my eyes are boiling away. Searching for water again is such a pain. How can the weather be so different between here and the forest? "Are you okay, Sirius? I know it's hot, but when we find water you can be the first one to drink," I said with an exhausted expression on my face. Sirius slightly perked up and began picking up his pace. "Thanks, boy." We will probably find water at the village I spotted yesterday.
I'm not sure what to expect, I thought everywhere would be nothing but forest but lo and behold an endless field of tall grass. To top it all off, a village in this blazing heat. The question that comes to mind is do Orions live in that village? Or what if they are not Orions? Will they be friendly or try to kill me? I know Elder Dasan was a former outsider, so he only knows what the outside world is like and he came from another Orion Tribe. If this could be the tribe he was from because it'll be a whole lot easier to walk in.
Is it me or is it getting hotter? I can visibly see the heat waves on the ground. Yeah, it's getting hotter. I need to remind myself to make a container so we can have water I don't want to through this for the third time. Let's see how far we have left. There's three villages now! How can a village multiply?! So which one do we go to? Maybe the one on the right? No, we go to the one on the left! I give up, "Hey Sirius. Do you see this? Which way do you think we should go?" I said in a haze. I look back "Sirius!" I hollered. Sirius was passed out on the ground as if he was clinging to life. I run back using all the energy I had "Sirius! I'm sorry! I'll carry you." It is best I hurry, I don't know how long we can withstand this heat. I'll go straight, the village in the middle.
Lonato traverse across the dangerous inferno making headway towards his destination, however as time passes, his momentum begins to slow. Where he becomes an unwilling victim to the heat.
No matter how far we get the village Seems to get farther. My whole face was dried out, any moment now I might catch fire. I'm losing my mind, I see three villages, now, I see trees, grass, and a giant body water. Whatever energy I had left had me running towards the body of water. "Finally! We can drink some water. Actually, I'm just going to jump in!" I take an enormous jump into the water. "Ouch!" Dust and dirt fill the air, it causes me to cough uncontrollably. Where did the water go? It was just here...I can't think...straight. Everything...is...turning bright.
Lonato passes out from the intense heat as he lays sprawled out on the field. In the distance, a brooding man can be seen on a carriage traveling near the area Lonato is passed out on. Perplexed by what he sees, thinking it was an animal or junk left out in the middle of nowhere, he approaches to see what it is. It seems Lonato's luck is fortuitous or taken a turn for the worst.
"Tch! It seems we have a classic idiot right here. I can take one glance at his clothing and tell it not entwined with celsian fiber. He must've been dehydrated and passed out from the heat." The brooding man said. "And this fox, I never seen a color like this before." He flips Lonato over to get a good look at him and is rendered speechless by his skin color. "No, I shouldn't get involved." The brooding man walks away until he takes one more look at Lonato. "Damn it! This is such a pain in the ass." He said in irritation. "Sorry girl, we're going to have two extra passengers." The brooding man carries Lonato and Sirius and places them in the back of his carriage. "Let's go, girl!
"I can't believe I'm doing this." He looks back inside the carriage where Lonato and Sirius are resting, "Let's just hope he survives I can't have someone dying in my carriage." He exasperated.
The bison takes off, moving at high speeds, it accelerates even more pushing back against the wind. It makes great distance across the plains, traveling to the destination Lonato had his heart set out to. A beautiful sunset is seen, forcing the scorching heat to settle down.
"Arghh!!" I yawned. Hm? Where Am I?
"So you finally woke up. Took you long enough." The man said with his back face towards me. "Who're you?" I asked.
"I'm the guy who saved you from dying a dog's death." The brooding man said. "Are you some kind of idiot?" he questioned. "In this region, temperatures reach up to a hundred and fifty degrees. Your clothes ain't gonna cut out here. You need clothes with celsian fiber if you planning on stayin' here."
"Celseeshion Fiiiber?"
The brooding man lets out a sigh of irritation "Its celsian fiber, a special fiber that protects your body against heat, they use it to make clothes, it's often used in this region. Well, anyway here." The man tosses something towards me. I was slightly perplexed by what it was.
"Oh! There's water inside. Thank you." I graciously said. "Oh, I just remembered! Where's Sirius?!" I shouted.
"You mean this dog right here. Don't worry he's fine."
Sirius jumped on licking me all across the face showing that he was happy to see me.
"Thank you so much. We owe you so much for saving our lives. How can we ever repay you?"
"You don't owe me anything, now get off."
"Oh okay, thank you anyway."
Without turning back to face me the man begins to head off on his carriage.
"Oh wait, I have a question. Where are we exactly?"
"This town is called Plevka."
Plevka...It must be the village I saw in this distance then.
"Hey, kid. Fair warning, this town is notorious for outlaws and criminals. Given your appearance, you might attract unwanted trouble." The brooding man said.
"Sure thing. Again, thank you for everything you did for me. I hope someday we can meet again so I can return the favor."
The brooding man left in silence. He came off as cold and distant, but he went out of his way to save my life. So he must be good then. I clench my fist together unable to hold back all the emotions inside of me. So there are people outside of my tribe then, I wonder what the other Orions are like? I should have asked that man if we were an Orion. He must've been. I still can't believe this, the feeling of finding Orions outside of my tribe. I no longer have to feel like the pariah, the stares, or my self-loathing anymore. A new life allowing me to break chains that were holding me back.
Lonato and Sirius walk out of the alleyway into the bustling town of Plevka. The look on his face was far from excitement, it was pure shock.
I can't believe this, who are these people? All Orions possess born with brown skin, these people have white skin. Apart from that their clothes were so vastly different from Orions, the women wore these strange puffy dresses, face paint on the lips, cheeks, and eyelids. Their shoes had these thin rods sticking on the back which had the back end of their feet stick up. It looks painful. How can they walk much less stand? The men wore these tall hats and straps all across their bodies. Several had these metal arms or legs amongst them.
Everything about them was just so different, from the way they speak down to the way they act. This was the outside world I've been curious about? This cannot be it. This has to be some sort of nightmare I conjured up. I step back to where I came from, doing so, I bump into someone.
"S-sorry. I didn't mean to." I stammered.
"Oh it's quite alright, just be-"
The old man with the mustache face turned instantaneously angry, he was almost unrecognizable. The saggy skin managed to grow veins all across his head. His skin was so red it's like when you put metal on top of a fire. Each second go by his skin got redder and redder.
"If you don't get away from me!" He hollered. Everyone turned towards the commotion, their eyes fixated on me, whispering to each other, they all had the same look of disgust on their face.
The old man with the mustache pointed towards me, "This boy tried to attack me!" He yelled.
Sweat began racing down my body, I cleared my throat, "No, I didn't mean to, it was an accident."
Sirius showed frustration at the what was happening, the old man showed hostility towards Lonato. Sirius reverts to his predatory stance bearing his fangs.
I know that stance! "Wait Sirius!" Sirius takes a powerful leap towards the old man bit right on to the old man's arm. The old man yells out in pain, his arm flailing about with Sirius hanging on for dear life.
"Let go of him Sirius!" I yank him off the old man's arm, blood leaking out from his arm.
"Everybody do you see this?! Not only did this heathen attack me! He had his rabid dog attack me too!"
More and more people whispered and muttered to each other, the same look of disgust projected on every single one of there faces. Even with all of them talking at once, oddly enough I can make out everything they are saying.
"Look at him, trying to an attack a defenseless old man." A woman muttered. "It's to be expected, they are descendants of savages." A man replied. "No, look at his clothing, it resembles the ones we see in history books." A person from the crowd explained. "Then that must mean he is-"
"Orion!!!" Someone yelled. The crowd of people traded glances with each other for a couple of seconds until they burst out screaming. They scattered like insects, screaming the name Orion constantly. They're running into each other, some got trampled, pushed, shoved, but I do not think it would matter to them, as long as I stand here.
"Somebody call that idiot sheriff!" The old mustache man shouted.
I think it's about time I go. I call towards Sirius to come follow me. We dash through the wave of people, escaping wasn't much of a problem, many of the people stayed clear away from us creating a path ahead of us. It didn't matter where I was going anywhere I can hide would be best.
Lonato along with Sirius runs through the crowd, they throw rocks, fruits, anything they can get their hands on. Lonato experienced this treatment before, for it to happen yet again. He can no longer shy away from it anymore.
At this same time, another incident occurred on the other side of Plevka. A bank heist in progress at the Charles United Bank, a well-known bank that is the staple pin of the country's economy.
