I chose a seat in the back, hopefully nobody would talk to me but alas, the bus was full of fresh-faced students eager to make friends, I decided to slink into the chair. Soon we would arrive, KU, my home for the next 4 years, my music would stop as I left the bus and made my way to where all the new students were meant to meet, then I felt it, the presence of eyes staring at me, despite how much I've tried not to be noticed I've failed.
Suddenly I felt a hand grab my shoulder and spin me around, it was a student administrator “you forgot to grab your student pass, you'll basically be screwed if you didn't have this” she said, I took it from her and thanked her before running towards the gymnasium.
Nothing of importance was told, only thing of note is that we got our dorm assignments and that for the first few days we wouldn't have class, so we could explore the campus, since I had had a tour already I decided to head to my dorm to unpack my stuff that had been sent there, all that was missing was the stuff at my apartment, after that I'd be officially moved in. I made my way to the dorms, hoping my roommate wasn't loud or god forbid social, I couldn't handle that with my level of introvertedness, soon enough I had reached my room.
“Dorm number 28... guess this is my new home” I said to myself as I grabbed my room key from my pocket, placing it in and opening the door. I was greeted with a rather terrifying sight, a 6-foot tall man stood in my dorm room, one half of the room was covered with sport merchandise... my worst nightmare. “H-hello” I said to the towering giant, he turned towards me and stared me dead in the eye. “Oh, hey there short stack, the name is Aaron Davis, Hope you don't mind that I took this half... I just prefer being near the window” he said in a rather... calming voice.
“I don't mind, I prefer being near walls anyway; Oh! My name is Daniel, Daniel Harris” I shook his hand and began unpacking my stuff, setting up my movie posters and putting away my various trinkets from conventions, finally filling my dressing with all my Dungeons and Dragons stuff which consisted of old character sheets, blank character sheets and dice. I stared at the bottom of my box, my pride flags were hidden near the bottom, and I was deciding whether to put them up or not... I didn't want my roommate to judge me.
Suddenly I noticed Aaron hanging up a familiar flag, one of Black, Grey, White and Purple, “Are... are you Ace?” I asked curiously, he seemed to act a little embarrassed as he responded “Yep... I uh... hope that doesn't bother you” I shook my head and pulled put my flags, the Pink, Yellow and Blue and the Grey, Blue and White flags seemed to bring a smile to his face, “seems we have something in common after all” he said rather excitedly.
Today ended on a good note, Aaron and I hung our pride flags on our respective walls and I went straight to bed, tomorrow I would pick up the remainder of my things.
