ARIZONA
Today, we're all packing up to go to the big dome. I can see it if I get up on the roof.
Yuri put Olive in charge of me cause he knows we're best friends. The big scary white guy Olive brought with her hasn't stopped tweaking all morning. He's really angry about something. He should get that checked. I offered him a Mountain Dew, cause white people love those, and he said no. I suppose there's no way of helping him.
At least Olive and June are nice. June's sharing her guns with me now, since she hasn't met another carrier. Olive found a collectible sword in the neighbor's house that she's using and teaching me to use.
Yuri has all his stuff packed too, including a bunch of tools in case we need to board up a window wherever we crash.
I kind of want to build a treehouse, after seeing all the nails and hammers and Yuri's chainsaw. I can imagine us all, up in a tree, looking down through a little window hole through the barrel of a rifle at the zombies below. We could even breed June's dog with Olive's dog and release the puppies to go distract the zombies when we need to go on a Mountain Dew run. Or straight seltzer water for Jared. He probably loves the stuff.
It's about time to go. June says the coast is clear. Everybody else has their stuff packed in big hiking backpacks, though white boy's is small, probably because all he has in there is a cloth for cleaning his shovel. I kinda hope we lose him, cause he's done nothing but mope and be angry and butthurt about...something.
We're leaving now, time to get the nervous digger out of the garden, and I don't mean the dog.
PRINCESS
It took a very long time for Shane to exit the decontamination chamber, and here's why - unbeknownst to me, one of the pink zombies managed to get its teeth into his arm. Had my chief scientist not determined that he was completely immune after I trapped him in the tented room just before entry to the campus, I would be dislodging a dagger from his pretty foreign head. Nobody gets past me.
I'm very glad he is immune, because we need all the help we can get. And now we can use his blood to test a vaccine. Most of the zombies out there are far past help, but if a straggler comes into my radar, we could potentially rescue them before the spores take complete control.
I currently have Shane locked in a room with my two nurses, who are holding him down to extract that red life force. For a guy who attempted to take on a group of zombies on his own without a firearm, he sure is scared of needles.
After the procedure, he will understand that I am one hundred percent trustworthy, and that I am only here to help, and maybe use him as a meat shield to put between myself and Peachy.
I'm naming him my new head nurse once we run tests. I'm going to arm him with two reinforced steel bats, since he has a knack for close range fighting, and the arms of a body builder. Hopefully that'll keep Peachy away. She's a warrior, but she's all up in my grill and my ability to not hit the other kids is dead.
LIMA
At one point, one gets stir crazy, and one gets the urge to get away. This urge peaked yesterday. I wanted to go shopping, so that I could make a big dinner for the group. The only other option was to literally sit by and watch the grass grow. So I snuck out.
To the guards Princess set up at the exit, I come off as innocent and honest, which is great, because they believed Princess was the one who sent me.
I had a few weapons with me, not that I'm battle ready. I stole a sock from my neighbor's dresser and filled it with padlocks, in case I'm approached by a zombie, and a cast iron skillet from the kitchen. I'm set.
Most of the city surrounding the dome is dark and smoking. Power lines are down, and a few car alarms are still going off.
Fortunately, the nearest supermarket took five minutes to get to. There were bare bones on every other aisle, and the smell of rotting produce filled the place, but the canned goods were still safe to eat. I grabbed a can of each available vegetable, bean and fruit, then I collected as many boxed goods as I could and put them in a basket.
I put my Mastercard on the counter and turned to cart my dinner items on out.
I froze in my tracks when I saw a blue glowing zombie come shuffling out from behind a rack of condoms. I didn't know what to do. I pulled my sock out of my purse and spun it around. Once it gained enough speed I chucked it toward the zombie.
I missed.
The sock crashed through the window and set off a very loud alarm.
CHAZZ
Since I'll probably die in this apocalypse-slash-war, I decided to make the most of it and act on any opportunity that would lead me out of the refugee camp and into certain death. A guy needs to have some fun before he dies, right?
Okay, so I figured if I needed to protect myself, I could carry a light weapon and any strength from a sudden adrenaline rush would make said light weapon my personal Excalibur.
Normally, I can hardly carry my own backpack without having some issues with shortness of breath, but this time I'm following that neighbor girl Lima out, in case she needs to be rescued.
How did I get out of the campus, you may ask. Well, I told security that Princess knew I was no use to the other refugees and that I was being cast out of the camp so that they could progress more easily. and the guards believed me. Security Thug Two asked me why I chose to take a book with me of all things, and I told him it was a detailed history of my favorite musician, Gackt, which it was, and that it would comfort me in my dying moments. They shrugged and let me out.
Zombie apocalypse survivors are kinda heartless, man.
So, I'm walking down the street going southwest from Specter U and I suddenly hear this loud ringing sound, like a tripped alarm. Most car alarms had ceased four days after the chem bombs dropped, and most stores and homes were shut down and detached from the grid to save power for the refugees on campus.
They apparently missed one. I followed the sound until I came across a grocery outlet. Lima was inside.
