Bright lights beamed in Leticia’s eyes while she was on stage with her band. They are up, ready to rock like they always were. Her band is playing one of the Midnight Force’s well-known songs that Millie Horne wrote, “Broken Haven.” The Apple Queens had been practicing this song for a week; it took the band’s two songwriters, Cho and Raleigh a month to figure out how to rework the song to make it sound like their band’s own. It was a team effort to find where everyone can have a part to fit in. Leticia honestly hoped that her damn headache didn’t ruin this moment.
Leticia strummed her guitar carefully throughout the song: So far, so good. Nothing unusual happened yet. Glancing at Raleigh, who continued to play close to Cho and Dakota, making sure they stayed in rhythm. Leticia sang, while playing an angst-sounding melody with her guitar. Everything is going perfectly, and everything is just like when they practiced until…
“Ow…” Leticia whispered to herself, then played the wrong key when the time came for her guitar solo. That damn headache came back! A pain shot through her head, while she continued playing, ignoring the headache. The lights flashed into her eyes. Now out of key, Leticia couldn’t focus, “What the fuck, not now…” Leticia soon felt a raising panic, trying to remember the part she supposed to play.
She can not deal with this and manage her headache at the same time! In a quick save, Raleigh improvised that nearly brought the song direction back on track. Remembering the part she supposed to play, Leticia had no choice but to follow Raleigh’s lead. A icy glare came from Raleigh as Leticia looked away from her. It was no surprise to Leticia that her rhythm guitarist pissed.
When the song ended, the audience cheered. Leticia guessed that they didn’t notice that the lead guitarist almost royally screwed up on a tribute song. The Apple Queens took a bow, then exited off the stage with Raleigh stomping far ahead of them, heading to the backstage area. Leticia sped up to catch up with Raleigh, until Dakota touched her shoulder, stopping her. She saw Raleigh thrust one of the backstage doors open to go outside.
The door slammed shut as this made Leticia desperate to fix things.
“Dakota, why did you stop me?! I wanted to talk to Raleigh.Let me explain things!” Leticia cried.
“You know when Raleigh gets like that. Chill, she will come back to us when she calms down. Honestly, I don’t know what happened on stage Leticia, but Ray looks pretty pissed off that this is the third time that she had to cover you. Why did you forget your part?!” Dakota explained with her hands on her hips.
“It was a fluke! I don’t know why the hell she is getting so uptight?! We improvised, and it worked out. No big deal.” Leticia huffed.
She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes, defending her position on what happened on stage tonight.
“You know that she has been working on this song for a month along with me! Plus, she’s stressed out on a lot of things. It’s not fair that she always has to cover for your mess-ups!” Cho, the Apple Queens Bassist, butted into the conversation.
This annoyed Leticia that Cho always defended Raleigh’s ‘diva’ behavior. Not wanting to stand any longer, she stomped out of the building to find Raleigh for herself. The parking lot looked dark as there are very few people walking around and about. Leticia didn’t have to look too long to see a blond girl, just sitting on the ground at the far end of the building, where there is a bright light near her. Raleigh is at peace by herself and looking at her cell phone. Heading over next to her, Leticia put down her guitar near Raleigh’s guitar, Tiger.
She always teased Raleigh about the guitar’s name playfully, but Raleigh was just a stick in the mud and took everything so seriously. The two of them stood in silence as they didn’t say a word to each other until Leticia spoke up.
“Are you ready to talk now?” Leticia took out her cell phone out of her jean pocket and texted Raleigh.
“No.” Raleigh raised her hand and signed to her when Raleigh’s eyes still glued to her phone.
“Too bad because I want to talk, Princess and you need to get over yourself! No one in the audience damn cares if I messed up! Everything worked out fine, okay!?” After Leticia texted, she glanced at Raleigh's face when Raleigh turned to her direction for a moment. Raleigh’s reddened, angry face fumed at her. It was not too long when she turned her attention back to her phone. Leticia stewed in frustration and send another text message again, “Jeez fuck, Ray, I’m sorry! I had a headache, and I lost track of the damn song. What the hell do you want me to do? How about you stop giving me the damn silent treatment and grow the fuck up?!”
There was no response. Suddenly, Raleigh got up from her seat, only for Leticia to block her from walking away from her again. The tension between them was cold with Leticia giving Raleigh the same glare that Raleigh did earlier. Raleigh didn’t flinch, but she grabbed her guitar. Leticia saw one of Raleigh’s hands reached to the side of her ears.
Watching her fingers, Raleigh flipped the switch on her hearing aids. Now, THIS got Leticia annoyed; what a childish move she pulled! Every time, Leticia and Raleigh would fight, Raleigh would turn off her hearing aids. This is an irritating thing for her to do when all Leticia wanted to do was to talk to her.
Raleigh opened her mouth to speak, “Now, I’m ready to talk.”
“Why’d the fuck you turn off your hearing aids and ignore me like that?! What's wrong with you?! Stop being such a diva b-” Leticia stopped mid-sentence when Raleigh walked up to her face and raised three fingers up at her.
“Three times. THREE times, Leticia! You messed up at live performances and I had to come cover you! When are you going to learn to take your damn responsibilities as a leader seriously!?” Raleigh raised her voice in anger.
Leticia did not move at all while Raleigh scolded her. She knew she messed up. Having Raleigh covering for her in multiple performances took a toll on her. However, Leticia saw no reason for Raleigh to be a bitch towards her and turning off her hearing aids to avoid talking to her. The backstage door swung open behind them as their manager, Lily appeared; she had been looking for the two girls.
Leticia took a deep breath as she knew the two of them are going to get the scolding of their lives. Lily observed the tension in the air going on between them as she walked to the girls.
“What is with you two now?” Lily sighed at the two girls.
Here comes Lily coming to do damage control. At least, Raleigh and Leticia did not slap or fist fight each other like they did during the early days of the band.
“Ray started it by being such a diva princess….” Leticia answered, crossing her arms and not facing Raleigh.
Raleigh said nothing in response. Leticia guessed she figured that Raleigh knew she was in the wrong or Raleigh couldn’t read her lips as well. Lily went up to touch the girl’s shoulders and pats them calmly.
“We’ll talk about it when we get to the hotel tonight. Can you two please TRY not kill each other tonight?” Lily pleaded.
The two of them said nothing to each other when Lily said this. Leticia and Raleigh looked at each other, then nodded in response to Lily’s request to not bloody kill each other before finishing the gig. Raleigh opened the door, then walked back into the building. Leticia soon followed her, along with Lily, to meet up with the rest of the band. The concert was ending with the last band to be performing their set.
Leticia huddled near Cho, Dakota, and Kiki to watch them finish. Raleigh, however, stood away from the band and probably still angry at Leticia. Once the concert was over, many of the performers were packing up, preparing to leave. The Apple Queens were getting ready to leave, getting all their things together. Leticia holds her head again for another round of that headache, swaying in place before she could pick up her guitar again.
Almost falling, Cho caught her before she dropped to the floor.
“Leticia, are you alright?” Cho asked.
That question got annoying.
“Yeah. Fine, just fine.” Leticia answered, then she went to take a seat in a chair nearby.
Soon, she saw two people walking towards her and quickly regained her posture. The two people are none other than Darren and Chantel, who also had Lily close by following them. Leticia knew why the two of them are only here. When they arrived, she stared at them and Lily, who looked at her in concern.
“They asked me to come over backstage because they said you have something that they need.” Lily explained.
“Oh… That book. Oh, yeah, yeah. It’s in the van. Under the front passenger seat. I’ll get it.” Leticia pushed herself up, then waved her hand for the two of them to follow her.
That damn book she never finished reading. In her mind, they could have it, since everything she read in that book is a load of crap. Leticia whispered to Lily to give her the keys to the van before the group left the building. She felt disoriented. Trying to not lose her balance, it was a quick journey for Leticia from the building to where Lily parked the van.
She cursed at herself, in both Spanish and English, pushing through the horrid pain coming from her head. Finally, they found the big, black van, then Leticia pressed the car remote to unlock the car. She opened the front door to the passenger side to search under the seat for the green book. After rummaging through trash and papers, she pulled out the book from under the seat, then handed it over to Chantel.
“Take this from me. I won’t be needing this anymore.” Leticia said.
“Thanks.” Chantel grabbed the book and packed it in her big, gold purse bag. Leticia watched her pull out a business card and gave it to her, “I know you couldn’t come with us to the bake sale but Mikel wanted to give you this.”
Leticia took the card, then took a glance at it only to crush it in her hands and throw it to the ground. She ranted, “I won’t be needing that. I don’t want to hear anymore of this magic shit when I got my own shit to deal with. None of this shit is real and you all need serious help! There is nothing wrong with me!”
Chantel was almost about to open her mouth and moved up to her. Leticia observed Darren stopping Chantel by pulling his arm out and hushing her. She stood by and only stared into his tense, blue eyes.
“Do you know how long I knew that you had powers, Leticia?” Darren questioned her as Leticia turned her head away from him. “Yeah, I have known since we were kids. That long. Long enough for me as these people forcing me to keep my mouth shut about it. The only reason I told no one was because they shut me up about it! It’s literally almost killed me on the inside! So, you got powers! Deal with it! Stop denying it! You’re the one that needs serious help when you can barely walk yourself to the damn van. You may think you’re being smart at hiding it, but you aren’t fooling anyone. Not me. Not Chantel. Not your band. It’s gonna blow up in your face if you keep this up!“ Darren blasted.
Who the hell does this boy think he is talking to her like this?!
“I don’t need help. So, you two can go along and think you're going on some fictional magical quest, but leave me out of it!” Leticia spat back before she could walk back to the building again.
BOOM!
Turning back, a street lamp post had fallen down on a random van. Leticia caught sight of what appeared to a wand in Daren’s hand, a bright, white glowing light flowed from it. She witnessed Chantel scolding Darren immediately and calling him an “idiot”, not understanding the situation going on. Darren’s cold eyes fixed on Leticia as she stepped back away from the two.
“Believe me now?” Darren said to her.
Not soon after, Leticia made plans to run for her life, until she bumped into none other, The Hexes, who were walking up to where the damaged van is. All The Hexes members opened their mouths in shock when they looked at the three. Leticia wanted to say it was Darren’s fault, but Darren did not have his wand in his hand anymore. The bloody bastard hid his wand before the Hexes even noticed!
“What the hell?! What happened to our van?!” Nicola cried, while her brother, Gabriel pulled out his cell phone to call 9-11.
The scene became a nightmare when the police came to the scene. Now, Leticia stuck with answering the police officer's questions on what happened. The entire group has to figure out how to make up a story on how the damn street light fell down on The Hexes' van. She hated Darren even more now for pulling her into this mess, because of this magic BS.
At least she wasn’t alone in that, since she noticed the icy glares from Chantel directed at Darren. After she finished dealing with the authorities, she rushed back to meet with her band when she saw that they were ready to leave the place. Leticia hopped into the passenger seat of Lily’s van. With no delay, Lily drove the band to their hotel when everyone was ready to go. This night turned out to be a nightmare for Leticia.
At least, whatever happens to The Hexes’ van, that was not her problem anymore. Still, one thing is for sure, no one would believe her on what she just witnessed tonight. Because of Darren, she knew that, over time, she could not deny that she is a Supernatural.
