It has been almost two weeks since The Hexes had made the journey to tour outside of their Supernatural community. So far, it started from good to worse since they got into Outsider territory! The damaged van was just the icing on the cake from last night. Apparently, a street light fell on their van when they were about to leave the Millennium Concert Hall. Amelia remembered seeing Leticia, Chantel, and Darren near their damaged van.
It was morning as Amelia and the rest of her group were sitting at a table in the hotel’s dining room, which they stayed overnight at in Rockwick. Amelia rested her arm while she played with her scrambled eggs with her other hand. She wasn’t hungry as much, since singing took much of her energy on top of wearing the Aura suppression wristband. None of her band mates, except Nick, was okay after last night's performance, considering half of them complained about feeling sick once again. The joys of pretending to not have powers. Wonderful!.
Amelia checked on Nick, who was sitting at the far end of the table, making phone calls to tell a repair company about the van issue. So The Hexes will be stuck in this town until they can find someone who could tow and fix the damn van. Amelia felt someone nudging her, then she turned to see Nicola, who just finished eating her pancakes. Looking around, there aren’t too many people around the dining room this morning.
“You know, this whole thing would be ten times easier if we asked Toby to use his transportation spell to create a portal so we can go back home.” Nicola whispered to Amelia, sipping her cup of coffee while pushing the empty plate away.
“I know. But you know the rules we can’t….” Amelia said, then Nicola slammed her coffee cup on the table.
“Screw the rules! Someone damaged our van?! I don’t believe a single word from those people, even that Magic User kid!” Nicola interrupted in a low tone, then drank more of her coffee. “I seriously think the streetlight didn’t fall down by accident. He was lying to the cops!” She continued to speak about the weird incident of their wrecked van.
“Maybe the town hasn’t updated their street lights or did a botched job fixing them. Either way, this situation is messed up.” Nicola’s brother, Gabriel, sat beside Nicola, who hasn’t yet finished his gooey scrambled eggs and put down his fork.
Nicola rolled her eyes at him and said, “Fool. You know damn well it didn’t make sense for a random assed streetlight to fall down on our van. I stand by the fact that one of them fucked up our van magically to sabotage us!”
Amelia shut her eyes when Nicola complained in Japanese to her twin brother, which resulted in twin fights between them. When Nicola gets huffy like this, the girl can go off. It did not matter whether the damaged van was an accident. All her band mates knew if one of the three people used magic, they would not tell the police they used it to destroy their van. At least, she could give Leticia, Chantel, and Darren credit for being smart enough to come up with a believable story to keep all of them under the radar.
It was not just for their safety, but for The Hexes too. She glanced at her wristband as she can not get her mind off of the Apple Queens leader, Leticia Hernandez. Amelia knew that the girl was feeling bad earlier and when she watched the Apple Queens performed. She felt Leticia’s Aura getting larger; far bigger than she was in the woods. When Supernaturals don’t use their powers or suppress their powers for too long, let’s just say the results aren’t pretty.
Amelia got up from her seat to get away from Nicola and Gabriel, who were still debating about the van’s damage. She headed over to a large long table at the other side of the dining room. The table had other condiments, such as coffee, tea, cranberry juice, and water. Looking over the coffee area, Amelia decided that she needed to get some caffeine to wake herself up. She poured a cup of coffee then threw in some cream and sugar then stir it together.
Time to test it out, to see if it tastes right for her. Amelia raised her coffee cup to her mouth to drink and almost spat it out. It tasted bland in her mouth! Gross...
“Damn it, I would kill to go to the coffee shop near my apartment back home.” Amelia muttered to herself.
“Excuse me, I need to get through there.” Amelia jumped when she heard a voice behind her, then turned around.
She saw a petite, curvy-bodied, black girl with long, curly, black hair, wearing a brown cap. Amelia observed the girl’s baggy green jeans and white t-shirt. She knew who the girl is: Dakota, the drummer, from the Apple Queens.
A thought stopped her: Wait, her band is in the same hotel as the Apple Queens!? Amelia quickly moved away for Dakota to get her coffee, but suddenly felt a small amount of energy coming through her.
She blinked for a second and said to herself, “Is she another one that is one of us?”
Oddly, she felt the same energy that came from Trenton, Leticia’s boyfriend, at the festival. Amelia learned from all her magic training there are four types of Auras: Healthy, Suppressed, Dormant and Mutated. At the sense of it, this girl and Trenton seemed to have either a dormant or mutated Aura, which does not appear dangerous as Leticia was.
“There isn’t a goddamn Starbucks nearby. Guess I have to settle for the cheap stuff.” Amelia listened to Dakota complain while she finished making her coffee. Still deep in thought, Dakota also said, “Hey, you’re that vocalist from The Hexes!”
Snapping out her thought process Amelia put on a cheery smile, “Oh yes! And you’re one of the Apple Queens!”
Dakota drank some coffee and her face cringed after she tasted it, “I had better coffee than this.” Then she took another sip from her cup and said, “Yeah, Leticia told me you were a bad person, but I don’t believe her nonsense, since she pisses off most people.”
“Well, your leader and I didn’t have a good interaction before last night's show started. Let’s just say that she has... um... issues.” Amelia twirled her hair by her finger, feeling embarrassed on how she acted earlier towards Leticia.
“What did you two do?” Dakota stopped drinking and furrowed her brows in curiosity.
“Just a little scrabble about unrelated things.”
“Oh, that’s a normal Leticia thing. I swear that girl is gonna get herself into deep trouble someday.” Dakota shrugged, then walked together with Amelia to head to the hotel lobby.
Observing into the lobby, Amelia noticed two other girls sitting on the couches. Dakota waved to them then introduced, “Hey girls, I want you to meet someone! Cho, Kiki, meet Amelia from The Hexes.”
Amelia shyly waved to them when the girls looked at each other and her. Cho got up from the chair, then held her hand out for a handshake. “Hi, I’m Cho! I’m the bassist of the group and also responsible for songwriting.”
Amelia shook her hand, noticing that Kiki just looked uncomfortable, but still went to meet her. Kiki’s hand shook when Amelia did the handshake and Kiki introduced, “Kiki. I’m the keyboardist.” Amelia noticed that Kiki’s blue eyes drifted to Dakota in worry. “Leticia will not like how we are being friendly to the ‘enemy’.” Kiki told her, then Dakota scoffed in response.
“Leticia will get over herself. Anyway, where are Leticia and Ray?” Dakota asked the two girls.
Cho muttered some Japanese, which Amelia can understand some of it, considering that she had two half-Japanese-African American members in her band.
Cho sighed, “Leticia is in her room, still getting ready, because she isn’t getting out, until she has the most PERFECT outfit to wear today for our interview with the local newspaper. Ray Ray, well… she is still asleep. She didn’t sleep well last night after our performance. Seriously, I had to grab her song journal and tell her to go to bed last night.”
“Okay, Leticia taking too long to get ready. That’s normal. We got to do something about Ray, through.” Dakota stated.
“Ray? You mean that blond girl? I know I’m familiar with some of your names like; Cho, because some of your names get thrown around.” Amelia sipped her cooler coffee.
“Sorry, I’m late. Gosh, I feel like crap.” Overhearing a voice behind her. Then Amelia turned around to see the blond girl.
She noticed that Raleigh’s appearance looks like a tired musician. It was amazing that Raleigh still dressed well despite her exhausted appearance. Though, no amount of makeup can cover Raleigh’s heavy black eyes. Amelia watched Raleigh dragging herself into an armchair to sit down.
“And this is Raleigh. Our rhythm guitarist and other songwriter.” Dakota glanced at Raleigh, who covered her mouth to yawn.
“Hi, I’m Amelia. Nice to meet you! I really liked how you played the guitar last night! You must be talented!” Amelia blubbered all this in a fast pace, which left Raleigh’s face looking like a “deer in headlights.”
“Um... what?” Raleigh tilted her head in confusion. Cho went over and helped Raleigh understand, which left Amelia in even more confusion. She watched Cho moving her hands to communicate with Raleigh in a language Amelia did not know of. As the two of them nodded to each other, Raleigh slapped her forehead in embarrassment “Oh… Thanks. Sorry, I have terrible hearing. I’m kind of deaf.” Raleigh’s face blushed, which made Amelia feel like a jerk for speaking so fast.
“Oh, my gosh! I didn’t know! Can you hear me now!?” She shouted as Raleigh closed her eyes when she raised her voice louder.
Raleigh’s expression looked like when a student heard teacher nailing a chalkboard. “Jeez, too loud. You do not have to speak louder. Just speak normally and I’ll let you know if I understand nothing.” Raleigh sighed tiredly, then turned to Cho again. “Cho, can you give me my song journal back?”
“Ray, why do you need it back now?” Cho hesitated.
“Look, Cho, can you just give me my damn journal back?!” Raleigh snapped, which made Amelia jump.
Everything became silent when Raleigh killed the peaceful mood in the group. Amelia didn’t know what to think with this group, but they seem to have more problems, other than their leader is secretly a Supernatural under their noses. Staring at Raleigh, the blond girl calmed herself down and got off the armchair to speak to Cho again. “Cho, I’m sorry. I’m just exhausted and I’m out of it today. If you can give my journal back later, fine. I’ll just deal with it for now.” she said in a tone that is calmer.
It must be an off day for this girl. Amelia observed the interaction as Cho took back the apology and hugged Raleigh. Raleigh gave Cho a soft hug back, which seemed to put all the water under the bridge. Relieved, Amelia continued to still hang out with them to pass the time. It was only a matter of time until one of her band mates would start looking for her.
