“Fantastic, luckily with how these magical pocket dimensions work, the various other outlets has one by my building.” He added as he walked off, letting his arm slowly trail off of my person as he started walking away. I took a few deep breathes to steady myself before following down another area of the market area before he walked down another narrow area that ended in a big shimmering doorway and walked through it as did I. When he brought me to Soho, he had stopped outside some massive apartment building and tossed the keys to the valet before just leading me away, we were in front of the same building again as we walked out of the alley the doorway led into. “Well, here we are…1432 South Black Street, long elevator ride ahead of us” he joked as he just walked across the street towards the massive apartment building, it was a weird mix of gothic and contemporary because of where it was, the huge sign out front said Gilded Lily Apartments.
I followed behind him through the massive sliding glass doors of the building, inside had polished creamy gold colored marble flooring, white and dark wood walls, huge fountain along the right wall, masses of plants, the front desk had a huge mailbox assortment behind it along with the building’s logo on the front.
“Afternoon, Mister Varga” the woman said before walking down the wall of mailboxes and unlocked one before holding a large stack out to Kal as he walked over to take it.
“Thank you, Tiffany…how’s your mom, everything okay?”
“Thank you for remembering, she’s doing better, doctors are still worried, but you know how that surgery for a broken hip goes and you know my mom…fuckin’ more stubborn than a mule.”
“Well, give her my well wishes.” He said before walking back over towards me, “This way”
He lead me to the large opening of a few elevators, but he walked past the elevators to a locked door at the back as he took his keys out of his overcoat. It had Varga on a pack above the doorway.
“Is…this your apartment?” I asked, he laughed.
“No, no…I just have a private elevator.” He said as he opened the door and I walked through to a good sized room that was the same style as the lobby, but a large gold mirrored elevator door looking at me as he tapped his phone to the panel and the doors opened, I walked in beside him as he held the door open for me.
“Why would you have a private elevator?”
“Penthouse”
“Wow…how many floors up is this?”
“Just forty”
“Forty!” I said shocked, “My…my apartments on the top floor and its only on the third.”
“Please, my office is 341st floor of the building its in.” he said with a casualness to how he said it that made it seem like he was just saying his office was on the ground floor.
“How big…how big is your apartment?”
“4,411 internal square feet and 826 terrace square feet.”
“God, that’s huge…I live in a shoe box.”
“Well, I also did adapt it a little, the owners don’t know about what I am, so I had some pocket dimension space put in for the closets, pantry and fridge.”
As the elevator dinged, the doors slid apart leading into a rectangular room with black marble flooring, sleek white walls with contemporary art on the walls, huge plants in the corners and gold light fixtures, a single heavy black door to my right and a pair of black ornate double doors to the left. He walked towards the double doors as he unlocked the door and pushed both open inwards.
“Welcome to my place.”
“Holy…shit…” I said quietly as I walked in through the double doors.
“Well, right here is the gallery, down that way to the right through those double doors was a fourth suite, but I converted it to my home office, towards the left are two coat closets, a linen closet on the left wall and on the right is a powder room, keep going that way and to the left is the second and third suite also the laundry and storage room, that single black door in the foyer leads into the laundry as well. At the end of the hall that way to the right is my bedroom.” He explained.
“It’s…huge…”
“Well, it was twenty million dollars, it better be.” He said walking forward past me, forward opened into a massive great-room, the entrance flanked by the walls going off to the sides with the same white sleek walls, but black pillars on the corners. To my right in the great-room was an extensive modern living room with a huge white fireplace, flanked by bookcases and all glass walls looking out onto the city and the rest of the building’s roof which serves as extensive grounds for Kal. To my left was a long dining table set for eight: black S like shape sideways with a glass top and a few modern pieces of art atop it, sculpted gold acrylic chairs and atop a massive white fur rug in an uneven actual hide style. “Over here is the butler’s pantry and wine bar through the pocket-door and my favorite area…the kitchen” he said motioning ahead as he held his arms out.
The kitchen was just as lavish: wrap around style with a huge island with three stools at in and a double basin sink, massive custom fridge all fronted to match the sleek black cabinets, all steel handles and expensive top of the line appliances and brushed steel countertops, two stoves with one of those special pot filling taps in the wall above and merged into the mirrored back-splash, ovens set in the wall: three of them, two regular ones and one of those weird half sized ones for desserts. The entire place had black marble flooring, sleek white walls with thick black pillars at the corners, massive industrial styled black framed windows that were floor to ceiling or just massive sections of glass with a pivot point at their centers. All of the rooms had gold/white/clear modern light fixtures, there were tons of plants and all super modern furniture and art covered the walls and filled the shelves and things. But I looked back over my shoulder to the giant grand piano that was right past the front door, atop a large white circular shag rug, a vase of roses atop the front with the top open and a chandelier right above it, I also noticed a very, very expensive looking violin on display in the living room, but it also looked like it saw regular usage.
“Do…do you play?” I asked motioning to the piano.
“Quite well…had some time to practice.” He said before a loud barking sound echoed as paws bounded on the stone. “Gellert!” he called followed by another bark and this…massive dog just jumped and tackled him.
“You…have a dog?”
“Griff technically, Hungarian griffon.” He said setting the dog down, “Not lion and eagle, griffs are hawks and wolves.” He added, the dop prancing in circles around Kal’s legs, as tall as Kal’s hip, black fur that faded to silver along the limbs, thick tail and an arrow down the forehead, snout turns silver at the front, huge brown eyes and a heavy gold colored collar. “This is Gellert…anyways, feel free to look around…I need to go change into something more comfortable.” He added motioning to his suit now covered in dog hair.
