“Gah!” I opened my eyes and the pain was gone. My passive barrier had also activated, a crimson hue surrounded me. It only meant one thing, somebody tried to harm me while I was out.
I staggered onto my feet and ran out of the library.
This was bad.
I activated my enhanced senses and quickly peered through the complex until I was looking at the entrance at where I left the two.
The barrier I set was gone.
The two of them were no longer there. Not even an orbital strike could break the barrier I set which meant that the timer ran out.
Wait, I fell unconscious. The barrier must have lifted at that moment.
Shit.
There was no time to waste by running. I conjured my psychic power around me and lifted myself up. My body was then wrapped around by a crimson light that shined bright enough to light up the dark halls. Using my enhanced sense, I took the most straightforward path possible.
There it was.
I flew up and slammed the floors above me. I did not stop nor was I hurt, this was nothing to me. I sped up fast enough to break the sound barrier but was shielded by my passive barrier. Using this method, it only took me a few seconds to get to the entrance.
The final floor was next, I needed to be careful. It was likely that I wasn’t really out for that long and that the woman and the little girl were still here. Knowing how reckless the woman was, there was also a chance she wanted to ambush me as soon as I stepped outside.
Unknown to her, I was going to burst from the floor in a matter of seconds.
I hoped she was there. I used my enhanced sense but found no traces of their energy signatures.
The last floor shattered as if something exploding below it as I slammed through. I then stopped my movement abruptly seemingly ignoring physics but that wasn’t the case. When I stopped, a powerful shockwave came soon after, pounding the entrance.
As bits and pieces of shattered floor and crumbling ceiling fell all over me, I walked towards the entrance. It was then did I finally detect them both. My enhanced senses failed to detect them when I was underground but now I could see their energy signatures as clear as day. They were invisible, two signatures, one large and one small were huddled against the wall moving to the right. I then peered to the right and saw what appeared to be a small hole that wasn’t even there when I first came. It was too small for the woman to jump out of but the little girl could.
The woman must have been the one responsible for the hole.
No, she was going to throw the little girl outside! She was going to freeze to death if I let it happen!
There was no time to lose. This was going to hurt the little girl but it was a better alternative to dying! In a split second, I sent my psychic energy rushing towards them.
“Agh!” They both cried out as my psychic grip finally had them. Their invisibility faded as my psychic grip around them thickened and a crimson light marked them out. There they were, frozen in place by my psychic grip. The little girl had her eyes fixed on me, I could tell she was horrified.
What was I doing?
I sighed.
I quickly let go of the little girl who stumbled onto her knees. She then promptly got up and ran towards the woman. She had teary eyes and was about to cry.
Why?
I then discovered the reason shortly after.
“Big sis!”
The woman was her sister. The little girl hugged her sister by the legs and cried. The sight was far too much for me. I quickly let go of my psychic grip on her sister and she quickly grabbed the little girl and pointed her dagger at me.
The woman had this fury in her eyes, the likes of which screamed that if I wanted to get near her little sister, I would need to kill her first.
That was not necessary.
I floated back down to the ground and slowly walked towards them. The woman flinched and her frown deepened.
“Stay back!” she barked at me.
I stopped and stared.
I then raised my hands.
Psychic sense, please translate my words for me.
“I mean you no harm,” I said.
Suddenly, the woman’s face changed from that of a frown and turned into a look of confusion. The little girl also turned to look at me with her teary eyes.
Was there something weird with what I said?
“I..” The woman paused for a moment.
“I can understand you?” The woman said.
“Is that weird?” I said.
“You’re speaking gibberish! But..” She was confused but it seemed like my psychic sense was doing its job perfectly.
I sighed.
“I mean you both no harm, there is no need for you to be afraid,” I said.
Well, I did just suddenly freeze them painfully.
The woman returned to frowning at me. With my hands raised, it tried to get near and have a conversation but alas, the young lady flinched after each step I took. I then realized that her eyes glowed as well, it was a faint white glow but a glow nonetheless. Was she a psychic? It would explain how easily she made herself and the little girl invisible but that would mean she was more powerful than me?
My heart stopped and I froze in place. Using my enhanced sense, I tried to see if she was exerting any psychic force into the material plane of existence. I detected no force from her, the glow in her eyes was not due to psychic power.
I sighed, letting my relief be known. The woman was as confused as ever but she was determined to fight to the death just by looking at her eyes gleaming with passion and desire. The glow in her eyes could either be a biological mechanism of some kind, a colony of bioluminescent microorganisms, or...
She had some other supernatural ability. I tried to remember the information I was bombarded with a few hours ago and I was forced to take into account this absurd phenomenon that seemed so foolish but in some ways might prove true.
Magic.
Maybe she was a magician, mage, or whatever the hell the books referred to them as. There might be a difference but I had no time to scour the nonsense clinging at the back of my mind in this situation. Freezing time might be good but it would strain my brain further, I had just recovered from Psychic Information Overload so pushing myself further would lead to unforeseen and probably fatal consequences.
I had no choice but to use the deadliest and the most human torture method there was. It had the ability to crush not only the physical states of entire individuals but completely render them mute and vulnerable, the breaker of minds and the soul.
Yes, you guessed it.
