With her decision made final, Anatheia began to lead Lilith away from Marcos and Olena. The rest of the party followed a respectful distance behind, as they had no want to catch her temper. Ana meanwhile was busy checking on Lilith.
“You okay Devil Child?” she asked the younger woman still in her arms. At the question and nickname, Lilith looked up at her, tears in her eyes. The sight stopped Ana's heart and the woman herself in her tracks. She thought about doing things that were better left unsaid at that moment. In fact, she had felt this before, but she was not sure where. Who had done this to her in the past?
“Please Miss Anatheia, don't call me that. I can't tell you why, but please...” Lilith begged and again she stopped Anatheia's heart. It was so damn sweet.
Shaking herself out of the stupor Lilith was putting her in, Anatheia responded, “Dear, I will stop when you give me a good reason. Until then you will be the Devil Child to me, especially with those devilish charms of yours.”
As soon as she said charms, something clicked a little. Was she being charmed? Wouldn't she know? How did that feel again? Was it like this? Or was this something else, something more natural? It had to be a charm, even if the girl was doing it on accident...otherwise that meant that Ana was caring for someone other than herself, and she wasn't prepared to face that possibility.
Hearing her response, Lilith began to pout, “Fine! Call me what you want you..you...aaargh I can't think of anything when I'm mad!” Her inability to think of anything and her pouting was enough to put a smile on Anatheia's face. If anything the inability to think of a name was cuter than anything she could have come up with.
As the group watched this exchange from a distance, they felt they knew why Anatheia had decided to stay. It wouldn't be the first time, and it wouldn't be the last. But it wasn't their place to say anything. At least not until they knew Lady Anatheia better. Meanwhile, Anatheia and Lilith were completely oblivious to what the others were thinking., off in their own world as they were.
“Well, if we're done with that. Devil Child, where can I go to buy some things for our journeys? I wasn't given much of a a tour,” Ana admitted she had no clue how to navigate Seldea. Lilith's eyes gleamed, despite Ana's use of the nickname.
“I can be your guide Miss Anatheia,” she exclaimed from her spot against Ana's chest. To the others this position had long since gone past the point of simple comforting of a friend. Luckily that was when Ana let go, but Lilith seemed dead set on creating unintentional public displays of affection. She grabbed Anatheia's hand and began to pull her about the city on a tour. Even the fairly reticent elves smiled at this display from the younger woman.
Before they could take off, Anatheia remembered the others and turned around to wave them forward.
“We're going on a tour, and Lilith will be my gorgeous tour guide,” she practically bragged. Nase had to stifle a chuckle at seeing her glow like that. Though, she was an angel, so that may actually be her default state of being.
Still, he wondered about her wings. He had never seen an angel with wings as black and red as hers. Sure there were some with red and black in them, but never had he seen one so dark. And he remembered hearing part of her conversation with Lillith. Red meant righteous slaughter? What kind of things had she had to do in what looked to be a short life?
Ultimately he decided it wasn't worth risking his neck to ask. Instead he focused on having fun with the group. He was saving his money for a shop, and he was almost there. In a few months, or week depending on their success in the field, he would be opening his restaurant. There was no need to take unnecessary risks. With an angel around hopefully that would mitigate any such risks.
He only worried about Marcos. He had been such a great guy, then he just slowly changed. His relationship with Olenna definitely seemed to be the cause, but Nase couldn't exactly tell the guy that.
He remembered meeting Marcos as a kid. Just as much a giant then as now. They were in school, and Nase was being picked on, and Marcos came rumbling in, beat up every last one of the kids in the group. Nase basically decided to follow Marcos anywhere that day.
But Olenna...this Olenna was a poison to his friend. Everything she said, everything she did seemed to turn the man more and more bitter. He used to be so fun loving, so ready for an adventure, so sure. Now...now he was a shell of the person Nase had known.
That's it...I'm going to talk to him about her, even if it hurts our friendship. I can't stand to see him like this, Nase resolved to himself. As Nase was wrestling with these thoughts, he and the rest of the group were following Lilith towards the Market.
On the South side of the city, this market was the largest, and most well-stocked in the city. You could get anything from one of the many multi-colored stalls. Each street seemed to hold more stalls, people, and goods.
Occasionally Lilith would get them to stop and buy something from one of the food stalls. The best of which, for Ana at least, was a sweet, jelly-filled bun. She had always been partial to sweets. When was that again? What life? She shook her head to get her mind back on the matters at hand, food.
Eventually they made their way through all the market, she had picked up some important things, such as toiletries and placed them into the inventory the system provided. Next they stopped at a clothier's that handled things such as travel cloaks. She gave them rough measurements in order to hide her wings and they said her cloak would be ready in a few days. With that done they returned to the streets.
As they walked down one major street in particular, Ana could see a large structure in the distance. It loomed over everything, regal and holy. And to Ana it gave off a light that was practically blinding. It was a Cathedral to the Goddess of Light. And more than likely, it was an important one, because it dwarfed everything. She remembered destroying one like this, but when? Was that why she was Fallen?
Her sense of dread built as they drew nearer. She knew that she wasn't supposed to be near this church, but she couldn't bring herself to stop the tour. That would give up the charade that she was a normal angel. Then they saw something take off from one of the towers. It was another angel. The difference was, this was a Seraph. Six huge wings of white graced their back as they pumped their wings to reach a proper flying height.
Anatheia took her eyes off of the Seraph. No need to draw unnecessary attention to herself. While a Seraph wouldn't kill her outright, it was unlikely an interaction with this one would be good considering the circumstances. Unfortunately for her, her mere presence attracted the attention of the Seraph. Her face, that piqued the Seraph's interest.
The crowd began to make a commotion as the Seraph dove, straight down. She landed hard in a cloud of dust in front of the party. The Seraph suddenly drew close to Ana, grabbed her by the sides and whispered.
“Luci? Is that you?”
