The Wizard of Wall Street

Wine and Dine

Wine and Dine

Sep 28, 2020

Kal walked back into the room with a few people behind him. The first was a rather petite and rail thin guy, long brown hair back in ponytails and pointed ears, hazel eyes with some makeup, dressed in pink and white striped tights, a knee length pleated black high waisted skirt that had built in suspenders over a tiger-print button-down, left open so it hung off his shoulders to show his collarbones, he was holding a pair of low heeled, thick soled boots in his hand as he talked to Kal. The second was taller, broad and curvy woman with deep skin, naturally worn hair back in a large twisted puff on the crown of her skull, dark brown eyes and kid features with lots of freckles, dressed in a paint spotted white shirt with a big heavy olive camo military coat over it, destroyed black jeans and had a pair of work boots in her hand. The third was A super tall, slightly curvy woman with a quite athletic and thin body, deep rich tanned skin, beauty marks above the left side of her upper lip and below the outer corner of her right eye, softly pointed ears and just radiant features with big green eyes and long caramel toned hair back in deep waves, dressed in pale cream floor length dress spliced up to the center of her left thigh, a deep V-neck and short fluffy sleeves, just a belt tie around her waist, huge rhinestone choker and matching jewelry and holding a pair of nude heels in her other hand as she had one hand resting on Kal’s shoulder, she was the tallest of the three, maybe higher side of five foot, maybe low end of six feet.

“Anyways…guys, this is Anthony, he’s a Seer…Anthony, these are my best friends: Devon” he said and the guy in the skirt and tiger print wove, “Beks” he added as the woman in the heavy coat softly saluted with a nod, “And Diamond” he added.

“Oh, he’s so cute!” Diamond guffawed as she bounded over and grabbed both my hands in hers, I winced softly, she’s got a really, really firm grip. She leaned over to look in my eyes, “Oh, he does have the Seer eyes, such a pretty shade of blue too. So, how did Kal find you? You accidently wander into the market or the building his offices are in? Was it a meet cute at a coffee shop because he drinks way too much? Blind date? Did his father set you up with him? Beat up someone mugging you? Saved you from falling onto the subway track? Offered to take you picture on the Empire State building overlook or at the Statue of Liberty?” she rattled off a mile a minute, she also had an extremely prevalent Brooklynn accent. Devon just rolled his eyes as he walked over and just wrapped his arm around Diamond’s waist and pulled her back a few steps like she weighted nothing.

“You’re scaring him, that’s why Kal told us about him before we came here so you wouldn’t do that.” he said, voice much lower than I was expecting, also a Boston accent.

“Oh, sorry…did I scare you?” Diamond asked, looking quite sheepish and embarrassed.

“A little, to be honest. I just…I wasn’t expecting you to talk so quickly.”

“So, how did you meet Mister Tall, dark, rich and scaley?” Diamond asked

“Oh, we’re not-” I started

“He’s straight” Kal called from the kitchen as he took the cork out of the bottle of wine Devon had handed him.

“Really?” Devon asked looking me up and down for a second, he shrugged, “Could have fooled me.”

“What dose that mean?” I asked

“Usually when Kal introduces us to someone its because he’s dating them.” Devon added nodding towards Kal who was grabbing a few of the pans from the oven, the motion made all of the muscles in his back flex as he dragged the heavy roasting pan out and his shirt was gloves to his back. As Devon said all of that, I hadn’t noticed my eyes had floated over towards him and I was staring a little.

“Don’t worry about Devon, he doesn’t bite.” Bek said resting her elbow atop his head, she was probably just the taller side of average for a woman, Devon was about my height. He just rolled his eyes at being used as an arm rest.

“And…we met at my work: I work at The Wall…and I just got the graveyard shift and noticed Kal always came in at four in the morning on the dot…every single day, so…I got used to his schedule and we got to talking.” I said looking over towards Kal, who was unbothered to listen to me or the others talking as he was getting the table ready.

“Just talking?” Diamond asked, folding her hands in front of her as her tone was playful and prodding.

“Just talking.”

“But you’re here now, meaning you like being around Kal and you also accepted his offer to join dinner with all of us so you were comfortable enough around Kal to be comfortable enough to meet all of us.” Diamond added.

“Kal’s my friend, that is all” I said

“Sure it is” Diamond said holding her hands up as she laughed.

“Dinner’s ready!” Kal called out. I quickly walked past the others to get out of the conversation as I met Kal to move some things over to the table, get wine glasses and things of that sort as the others took seats at the dining table.

Wine, conversation and impossibly good food was passed around the table in a very, very warm and comfortable manner, it honestly reminded me a bit of dinner with my family, years ago, but to be entirely honest, nobody in my family could cook this well. Diamond had also brought dessert so that was waiting for all of us on the island. Kal’s back was to the huge windows, the bright lights outside washing over his back casting long drawn out shadows across the table, in his shadow you could nearly see his antlers and the crown of frills and fins around his head. Kal’s personality stayed for the most part the same with everyone, but there were moments where he got…a bit flamboyant in how he talked and mannerisms: at times getting quite vivid and big with hand gestures, clapping out the syllables of words and using more stereotypical gay slang as he and Devon started talking about a story of the two of them.

“Well, we need another bottle of wine.” Kal said standing up, picking up the two empty bottles from the table and tossing them into a recycling container before vanishing into the shallow closet that was the butler’s pantry and wine bar before returning with two more bottles.

Why is it that every love story happens at a coffee shop, a school or something sweet and cute like that? Why is it never somewhere more believable? I had always read and seen those stories, never did I think I'd end up in just what I was asking for. From the endless reoccurring dreams of drowning, to vague Eldritch things happening outside the diner I work at super early in the morning...and a godly man who stole my heart...Why is it...that nothing can ever be normal?
