What is going on here? Is there something I missed?
“Trying to play the big man?” Kieron growled, walking towards him. I quickly pushed him back.
“Kieron, he’s still a kid. Don’t let him provoke you.” I reassured. Nathaniel kissed his teeth and wandered off for a bit but stayed close. He knew it would be a big mistake to walk off, “This deal is important. Don’t get distracted, got it?” Kieron eventually nodded. I patted him on the shoulder, “Thank you, I know I can always count on you.”
When I had finished diffusing the tense situation, three cars pulled onto the side of the road and headed towards the junkyard entrance. This was the Fraser Family, another mass organised family in the city, but not as powerful as ours. We have been on friendly terms for over thirty years and have been continuously in trade with each other. I know a few of their members very well and grew up with them.
“Good evening.” I greeted. The members nodded in approval. Usually, they don’t like to waste their words, “As promised.” I took the bag from Tyrone. I opened it and showed it to our clients, to diffuse any doubts that it was fake. However, they already knew we wouldn’t do anything like that. The leader nodded again, took out a duffel bag, and flashed the money. We both dropped our bags between us and grabbed the other bag.
“Thank you, Sebastian.” The only words the leader spoke to me. I smiled and shook hands with him.
“Sebastian, I hear cars pulling up,” Nathaniel warned. Our clients looked at each other and quickly left with the drugs. Was it the police? I turned to Nathaniel, who had already pointed his gun in their direction.
“Nathaniel, did you see who…?” Before I could even finish my question, shots were being fired.
“Are you kidding me?” I yelled, pulling out my gun and grabbing the bag of money. I joined Nathaniel, who was trying to shoot them behind a car. He was missing a lot of his shots. In other words, he was useless, but I didn’t want him to get hurt. I can’t have that on my conscience, especially when he has a little sister to look after.
“Nathaniel, can you hold the money,” I ordered, chucking him the bag. He was going to say something, but he did as he was told and held the bag, “I don’t want you to get involved, get to the car.”
“But…” I grabbed his shoulder. He was shaking, just as I thought.
“Do you want to die?” I hissed. Nathaniel was speechless, but he responded by shaking his head, “Then listen to me. Get in the car, get it ready for me and the others. Got it?” He nodded and ran back to the car.
“Boys!” I yelled, “Head to the car, Nathaniel getting ready to go!” I could hear yells in a different language, it was Spanish, “Shit, it’s them.” I muttered to myself, reloading the barrel.
“Sebastian, I know you’re here. Where’s our money?” The voice was incredibly familiar, it was that idiot who threatened me at college. I told Father about him and told me his name was Carlos. I didn’t answer, I backed away and started to sneak towards the car. At that point, the headlights flashed on.
“What the hell is he doing?” I hissed. I could see Tyrone, Kieron, and Ken run to the car and jump in. Nathaniel jumped back out of the car, “Nathaniel…” I was about to start, but he ran past me and started searching the floor. What was he looking for? “Nathaniel!” I hissed. I didn’t want the guys to find us, there is no way I’m losing my money.
“Leave him! He’s gonna get us killed, Boss!” Kieron hissed even louder from the car. I couldn’t leave him. I ran back to him and yanked his shoulder.
“What the fuck are you playing at?” I whispered. Nathaniel looked scared but more worried than anything.
“I dropped my dad’s locket. I can’t lose it. Not here.” He looked past me, and his expression softened, “I found it.” He reached for the locket. A bullet missed his hand. Great, they found us. My suspicions were confirmed when the familiar face stepped in front of us. He was grinning like he won a prize. I’m sure he’s very proud of himself, right now.
“What’s going on here? Sharing a kiss before I waste you?” He sneered, pointing the gun at us.
“I haven’t got your money, Carlos. For fuck’s sake!” I yelled, shielding Nathaniel.
“Liar! Give me that money you got now, or we’ll shoot your pretty face off.” He snarled, pointing the gun to my head. He’s must think he’s the shit now, pointing a gun at a member of the Luxe Family.
“No!” Nathaniel yelled and shot at him, which again missed. Carlos cursed and tried to shoot at Nathaniel. I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to reach for his arm and knock the gun out of his hand. A shot fired in the process.
“Sebastian!” Nathaniel yelled. Carlos tried to reach for the gun, so I had no choice but to punch him as hard as I could. He collapsed on the ground. Knock out. I didn’t want to kill him. That would cause a lot of problems for us. I used the rest of my energy to get Nathaniel to the car, but he ended up helping me to the vehicle. Tyrone took the wheel and sped off before anyone got close enough to shoot again.
“Sebastian, h-he shot you!”
