Let's rewind a bit, shall we...
A life of a university student was as normal as anyone. Except for the occasional misjudgements towards my subject of study.
"Oh you chose this because you weren't good at math, right?"
"Oh, how do you plan to find a carrier and a job after this?"
And so on... Well, I would always try to console myself saying they were ignorant. Most people didn't respect psychology in the same way they respected surgeons or "real" doctors. Just as they didn't respect social sciences as much as positive sciences.
People who don't know much about them tend to think they weren't real study fields or only people who aren't smart enough chose those subjects. What they didn't consider was the applications.
All those people also looked up to companies and bought their products with immense enthusiasm not knowing economics or business was also about the human behaviours. Whole marketing department relied on the the human psychology in fact. All those apps they loved so much were designed based on social experiments. The colors, designs and sounds. The reward system behind "likes". They were carefully calculated decisions based on science of, well, human.
And philosophy or politics. Well since politicians were the ones they voted for, people didn't really messed with those fields but still... Saying smart people were only those who had high math scores in high school was ridiculous.
Politicians for example, were like salesmen. They painted the truth for customers' pleasure. They were very smart and cunning. Well most of them. Politicians used techniques that could naturally persuade humans, and it worked. Charisma, for them, wasn't something to be born with. It was studied, practiced and perfected. For philosophy, well, it was the mother of all sciences so it kinda explains for itself.
And literature. This was the most fascinating of all for me. A whole way of shaping one's thoughts. Sometimes it opened people's eyes with dystopic, vulgar and dark themes and sometimes it was a way to relax and escape from the real world's responsibilities. Either way, every genre and style had its purpose.
In past, clever people would rebel through their crafty words that dodged the strict laws just barely enough to taunt the authority itself. How can one not be thrilled by that?
And this was the reason why I chose this particular field of study. Yes math was important as well, and I wasn't bad at it like most would assume. It just didn't suit me.
I like to think about it like clothing. Say there are two really gorgeous dresses. One suits you and one doesn't. It wouldn't make the dress any less eye catching. It would only mean that it didn't suit you, simple as that. Besides, I loved the confidence and social abilities that I've learned through my two years of study.
Life was going good.
"Hey, you're spacing out again!" my fellow co-worker slightly tapped the back of my head. Thanks Luna, I appreciate the gesture but can you please apply less strength.
Luna was my co-worker in the book Cafe I worked for financial back up. She was a master's degree student in biomedical. Her financial condition was never good. In her entire school life she relied on basketball scholarship and when she decided she would focus more on her studies she found this part time job.
It wasn't very bad actually. We were working together for three months and had a pretty good relationship. She would occasionally encourage me to work out and sometimes we would play one on one with her. Well I always lost but after that she began to teach me a few tricks. And I would invite her over for dinner. We were planning on moving together in a bigger apartment in a few months so we could share the expenses. Life was fine.
"Waiter!"
That was my cue.
"Coming."
I wasn't bad at this. I've already got used to dodging other waiters and sometimes customers. I was getting more swift.

"Haaaaa, I'm beat."
Luna and I were drinking some ice tea after our shift.
"I thought you had a good stamina." I said, chuckling slightly. We were walking side by side while cars were buzzing on the road.
"Why of course! I have excellent stamina. But that work is hell." she said in a slightly amused but dismayed voice. Another car passed by us.
"Sure, if you say so." with that I rolled my eyes a bit. She had the worst work discipline. But she was very digilent so it was okay I guess. I heard her laugh. Her laugh was very soothing despite not looking so.
" Do you want me to prove my stamina to you, I'm free tonight. " she winked. I couldn't hold my laughter anymore.
"You little vixen! How dare you cheat on Amy?!" I put my hand on my forehead dramatically. Amy was her long distance girlfriend and we got along pretty well. She was a model. With her golden locks and 187 cm height, she was a goddess. Well, but Luna was longer than her by 3 cm. I saw them together only once but hell, I felt like a dwarf between giants even though I wasn't that short. I had a pretty decent 170cm height. I was in my high school's volleyball team for a while as well.
"Who told you about cheating? I don't think she would mind as long as she could have fun as well." Oh my f*... What a tease. I never could beat her in these matters.
"No way, I wouldn't survive the night." I was concerned. Genuinely, concerned about my safety. I would be like a fly between two mountains. I shudder at the horrible thought.
"That's why we need to get you some more muscle." don't you dare laugh at my weak arms!! She burst into laughter upon seeing my pitiful face. I didn't do well in terms of muscle. I was more of a talking kind. My mom once said that I could beat a boxer with my silver tounge. It was thanks to her encouragement that I was in my dream school as well. Blood related or not, she would say, motherhood is about something different.
I couldn't hold myself any longer and joined her laughter. Our voices were sure disturbingly high but I couldn't care less. We were just two silly friends, jokingly flirting knowing our platonic relationship. (living in a dormitory for two years did that to you) And I was happy…
Until…
