In the kitchen, Chantel was sitting at the table with her father, finishing up her breakfast. Her father was sitting beside her, drinking his dark coffee while he read the newspaper. Things have been quiet around the house since the discussion with Mikel at Rockwick. Chantel hasn’t been talking to her father, ever since she knew about the secret that he kept from her. Playing with some of her leftover bacon, she sighed.
This silence was killing Chantel, but how could she ask her father about anything when he refused to talk about it?
Chantel took a bite out of her bacon and spoke, “So, I talked to mom last night. Mom got a promotion at her job...”
“I see. That’s great for her.” Her father was flipping through a page in the newspaper. Chantel became silent again, tapping her fingers on the table.
“Dad... I know you tried to keep me from being friends with Darren.” Chantel blurted out her words.
She just wanted her father to be honest for once.
“I did no such thing, Chantel!” Her father put his newspaper down and looked at her, “What’s wrong?”
“Darren told me you tried to keep him from being friends with me. Now I know there was a reason you didn’t want him at my sixth birthday party!” Chantel exclaimed, slamming her fork on the table.
“And that reason is because he is a strange boy and-” Her father scratched his head, then Chantel interrupted him.
“He’s not strange! Darren is my friend, and you didn’t want me around him because people like him are Supernatural! Not only that, but you’re keeping a secret that I am also one of them too. Some Father-of-the-Year you are.” Chantel pointed at her father, getting up from her seat and picking her plate up, then putting it in the sink.
She turned back to see her father, still frozen in his seat after witnessing his daughter’s outburst. He once again opened his mouth and yelled, “It was only for your protection. You don’t need those cursed powers! And you shouldn’t trust your friend, Darren, because he is filling your head with lies!”
Chantel picked up her big purse and huffed at her father’s remark towards Darren, “I trust Darren. If he did lied, at least he would be honest with me about it eventually and own up to it! Unlike you, you who still continue to deny it and that’s what hurts me the most!”
She ended the conversation as she marched out of the door, not looking back at her father. Furious at her father for even continuing the denial about everything from Darren’s character to saying she didn’t need her powers!
Chantel wanted to kick a trash can, anything to let her anger out. Before she walked any further down, she took out the card that Mikel gave her about the surgeon. Taking out her cell phone, she dialed the number, wanting out of this mess that her father made. She was done with this!
“Hello, My name is Chantel Delisle and I want to make an appointment with Dr. Harris…” Chantel said into the phone, walking into a private area, where no one around could hear her...
