The guards were rough with him, dragging the boy into the street. They threw him in the dirt for all the village to see as The captain read from a scroll.
“To all in attendance, Let it be known that this man,” He looked down on the teen before correcting himself, “This Boy has been found guilty of heresy, witchcraft, and fraternizing with those outside of the human race.”
The group of villagers forming, gasped at the accusation.
“As it is known, The Law of Mirach is that our traditions are followed, magic is only a tool for the wicked, and races do not intermingle.” The captain’s voice dropped low and dark. “What say you in defense?”
The boy laid there terrified, tears streamed from his eyes as he saw them dragging another child, an orc boy towards them. “Please NO! It was all me, I came on to him, he didn’t want anything to do with me! He’s innocent!”
The orc looked up at his lover and smiled through tears, happy to know they had tried to save each other till the end…
“Unlikely” The captain closed his scroll, “as he said the same towards you. As you are both clearly against our ways you will be executed, so that other heretics may learn what will come of them,” He handed the scroll to another guard taking a large executioner’s sword instead. “Now we pray Mira will have mercy on you in your next life.”.
The two boys were set next to each other, knelt down as to look at each other’s eyes as it happened. The captain raised his sword high towards the heavens. The crowd fell silent as the anticipation grew…
“EXCU….EXCUSE ME!” A loud drunken dark elf stumbled forward burping. “Does….Does anyone know how to get to the... pub?” The elf smiled, tugging at the cloth over his eyes, “I tried looking but i can't seem to ffffffind it…” He chuckled at himself.
The captain lowered his sword in bewilderment. “Do you realize you are interrupting an Imperial Execution?”
The dark elf raised his hands in mock shock, then gasped “Oh... I am? Well... you imperial boys would be the best ones to know where to find a drink, am I not right?”
The captain looked furious, “Men arrest him,”
“Arrest me?” The elf swayed as he spoke, “for asking directions?”
“For obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and pissing me off.”
“Well,” the elf smiled sarcastically as two guards step towards him, “At least your honest,”
One guard grabbed his arm but was swiftly reversed and moved into a submission hold. The other moved forward to assist his comrade but a kick to the face and stomach sent him stumbling backwards. The elf applied more pressure to the hold and dislocated the guards shoulder before throwing him into the other.
“See, I appreciate honesty” The elf swayed again as if he hadn’t just performed with precision and focus, “So, I’ll be honest with you.”
The captain starred stunned, “Very well… let's hear it.” He motioned for the rest of his men to move forward.
“Ya see, hic-cup, I’m not looking for the pub, I was actually just there, and pretty soaked still.” He gestured at himself, “If you couldn’t tell.”
The elf laughed as a guard lunged at him. He spun around dodging the grapple completely then kicking the back of the guard’s knee causing him to drop as the next blow struck his head knocking him out.
“I knew that this was an, Imperial Execution,” He spoke the last words as if they were bitter to his tongue. “But you sir, are an asshole”.
The next guard went to draw his sword but the elf kicked his hand and delivered a punch to his face.
“This man, or child or whatever he is, he sounded pretty young. Was accused of witchcraft, but I haven’t seen you mention that except at the start. And even the that was just to accuse him,”
Another guard did manage to have his weapon out. He thrust it at the elf but was promptly disarmed and knocked him out by the pummel of his own sword.
“All you care about is that he likes the…. What is it a minotaur?”
“...Orc….I’m an orc sir.” The boy said in complete confusion.
“SILENCE!” The captain out of men was forced to go on the offensive with his blade.
“AN ORC! See! This is why people hate the empire.” The elf deflected the first blow from the executioner sword with the ‘Borrowed’ sword he still had in reverse grip. “Who cares? Only you sex deprived zealots.”
“HOW DARE YOU!” The captain slammed the large rectangular blade into the elf’s block, the stolen sword cracked as the captain continued to bellow “WE ARE THE HOLY EMPIRE OF MIRACH! FOUNDED BY THE GOD QUEEN MIRA HERSELF! YOU DARE DEFY HER WILL?!”
“Yes but only cause you won’t admit she slept with that dragon,” The elf laughed.
The captain’s veins looked ready to pop as he swung his holy sword. The elf simply ducked under the slow heavy weapon before plunging his sword into the captain’s throat.
“Even without my eyes, I can see your empire’s wickedness.” The elf’s voice grew serious as the captain stared into the clothed face. “You will fall, and so will the rest of your idiotic bretheren.”
The captain dropped as the elf withdrew the sword. “To anyone else who would cause these two harm, I challenge you. Beat a drunk blind elf, then you may pass your judgment on them.”
The crowd stood silent, still shocked at the elf’s defiance.
“No takers?... Good!” The elf’s sway returned as he pointed towards a random person. “You take this sword, cut them loose.” He flipped the bloody blade in his hand holding the handle out.
The villager hesitantly stepped forward doing as he was told.
“Sir…” The human boy said as his bonds were cut. “What will we do? The empire will hunt us down.”
The elf’s voice grew serious again, “Head east, to Amora. You’ll have to restart your lives again, but it’ll at least be a life. And don’t worry, the empire is actually pretty small looking from the outside in...
