Dante
Dante decided to stay with Velinty for the night. He would have taken her to his place, but he knew she would decide to go to her own, and he would spend the whole night wondering if she made it and if she was safe in her poorly built tent. He looked over at her sleeping figure and smiled slightly, she was such a spitfire. He knew she was not going to avoid the streets, even if Unlic was out there, that was why he was on his way to her tent. Luckily, he saw that wad of trash hurting her before he could do any real damage. It always pissed Dante off because Unlic was untouchable. He was trained in fighting because he came from the Protector location and he was untouchable because his father was an elder.
Dante had his own considerable power, amassed from shady dealings and fighting his way to the top ranks, but he still wouldn't be able to touch that useless dickhead. Dante had been an orphan since he had memories, always fending for himself. But one day he saw a stranger on the steps in front of the council room of the elders. Dante had been hungry that day so he swiped the coins the guy carried in a pouch by his side. The man had caught him, he was six at the time. The man must have seen something in the dirty street rat because he took him in, showed him how to sneak into anywhere unnoticed, how to defeat anyone while gaining the respect of everyone. For four years he learned, then the man had to leave. He was once again alone. Dante had always wanted to become a protector, so he often walked the boundaries between the Void location and the Protector location.
One day he spotted a girl, being handed to one of the best known pimps around. He got closer to listen, the girl’s parents told her that she was going to a place that would accept her being transgender, a term he knew from the streets. She looked scared, and he knew immediately she was too good for the life she was going to experience. Dante followed the pair to see which whorehouse the girl would end up in. It took weeks of scoping out the place, a month of planning, and another month to find the right time to save her, so Dante waited three months in total. When he finally made it into the house and slipped to the back, he was too late.
She had experienced what life was really made of, hatred and anger. When he went into that back room, he saw her on her knees, her back completely covered in old and new whip lines, when she looked up all he saw was despair and pain. He felt for her in that moment and knew that the coming years would be him protecting her from ever experiencing anything like that again.
That was nine years ago, and Dante was still just as protective. The world had been crawling with evil beings and the influence from the void, and Dante had shielded her as best as he could. He had loved her since the first time she mouthed off to Unlic after he said she was disgusting trash not even worth his time.
That day she punched him so hard that she broke his nose, his father sent ten men to try and capture the little trans girl who had dared lay a hand on his precious son. Dante had laughed so hard after he hid her for two weeks, and ever since had been trying to convince her that they would be the perfect couple.
But everyday that she rejected him was another day he barely felt like moving. Her rejection was wearing a hole through his sole and the only solace he found was her reasoning. She rarely thought well of herself, which was a shame, but it gave him hope that if he showed her how great she was, then they would end up together. All his hard work would pay off when he would have her in his arms where she belonged
