Wakening Day
Velinty
A week later and she could still feel the throbbing of the bruise on her lower back and eye. That sack of shit was lucky she was distracted by the defeat of his puppy to remember him. He wouldn't have walked out of that fight with his dick attached. Velinty was barely awake when she noticed a shadow standing in the corner. Velinty pretended to still be sleeping, the figure was a woman and the only welcome visitor in her tent was Dante. The woman’s figure moved into the light and Velinty tried her best to make out the woman’s features while still pretending to sleep.
“I know you're awake child, I feel it in my bones. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Tanie, the one who failed. I have come to tell you of your destiny. You are the Sleeper, and today is your wakening. Congratulations.” The woman, Tanie, said congrats, but she didn't sound like she was truly happy, more concerned.
“I am not the sleeper. You have been smoking that funky stuff. I am nothing more than a woman, trying to live a life that has turned against me. Get the fuck out now before I beat your dead ass back to the spirit realm.” Tanie didn’t move an inch, she was not intimidated by the child in front of her.
“You may not accept this now, but your protector is already on their way to train you and get you ready for the battle. I was only tasked with telling you of your fortune. I do not need you to accept your role to have completed my task.” Yet, the woman did not move. She stayed where she was and looked at Velinty. Velinty could see some pity and hesitation in the woman’s eyes. She cleared her throat and turned around.
“A word of advice child, the history books say that protector’s would die for their sleepers, but this is not always true. They are human as greedy and desperate as the rest of us. They can betray you. Keep those you trust close, to get through this, you might just need them.” Velinty nodded, even though she was not planning to accept her role. She just wanted the strange woman to leave her sight. The woman disappeared. Velinty decided the world could wait a few more hours before being graced with her presence. She lay down and suddenly felt the most exhausted that she’s ever felt in her life. She fell asleep almost immediately, not understanding the change her body was about to go through.
Tanie
“Is it done?” The shadow asked. He needed to know that the sleeper was prepared, for after a year she needed to make one of the hardest decisions she will face in her life and he needed to make sure she chose wisely.
“Yes, I have warned her to be wary of her protector as well. When the time comes, I am sure she will make the correct decision.” The shadow just nodded. Tanie had seen into the young woman’s soul while they had a conversation. She saw so much of herself in that past that she was almost certain she could reach the young woman given the time. Then the second part of her deal would be fulfilled and she could finally rest in peace.
