I was at Dray's house, sitting on the floor and leaning against the wall while throwing a tennis ball in front of me, it coming back, and me throwing it again. The door opened and I looked up to see it was Dray's brother, Callum.

"Where's Dray?" Callum had dark red dyed hair, but his eyebrows, like his whole family's, were blond as it was their natural hair color. Callum had countless piercings, but the ones I could see on his face were 3 in his right ear, 2 in his left, one in his nose, and one in his lip.

"Don't know. Said she'd be back, but disappeared." I went back to bouncing the ball.

"Whatever. Tell her mum wants her."

"Whatever." This is how most of mine and Callum's conversations go.

***

I bounced my tennis ball on the wall for probably the 100th time, only this time when it hit the wall there was a loud crash sound. I stood up, letting the tennis ball hitmy leg, and looked out the window. Next to it, Dray has a huge clock that read 12:26. She'd been gone over an hour, where did she go?

As I yawned and returned to look at the window, it opened, and I almost screamed until I saw Dray's blue curly hair.

"Dray!" I whisper shouted, running over her bed to the window and opening it for her to get in. I moved over a little so she could crawl in from the roof. "Where the bloody hell have you been for the last hour plus?" But, when I saw she was holding her upper arm, I frowned. "What happened?

"Why are you here?" Dray asked, glaring at me as if I shouldn't be here.

"You told me to wait for you to get back so we could have a sleepover!" I decided midsentence to flare my arms around for emphasis.

"Harper, just leave!" Dray yelled, and it felt like everything froze. She wanted me to leave? I looked at where she still had her hand tightly on her arm, and saw blood seeping through her fingers.

"Dray, let me help you-"

"Smith, leave!"

There were so many things running through my head, so many questions—why was she bleeding, where was she, what was she doing, why is she screaming at me?—but from my shock at the whole thing I just left without another word, not even bothering to hide the tears as I passed Dray's mum. She tried to ask what was wrong, who was screaming, what the crash was, why I was crying, but I just walked out and ran.

***

"Harper, honey, is that you?" My mum asked as I re-locked the door behind me.

"Yeah, mum, it's just me." My voice was hoarse because I ended up running to the beach and screaming until I could barely breathe before coming home.

"Honey, what happened to your voice?" My mum came to look at me still standing in the doorway then rushed over. "Harper, what happened? Why are you crying?"

"We- Dray- We fought, mum." I let out a few incoherent words, shocked how my mum even understand anything. "She kicked me out, and-"

My mum hugged me then told me to hush.
