"Lieselotte, what do you think you are doing?" the Wind Spirit calls up to her younger companion, pointed ears twitching. Even knowing Lieselotte is responsible, Kamiko can't help but worry about her.
"Kami, you'll never guess what I found!" Lieselotte replies from where she's climbed up the wall, going inside what seems to be a little tunnel. Or perhaps a hallway, it's difficult to be sure from down below.
The two Elementals are exploring some ancient Uvallian ruins, checking to see if it's a hideout for the enemy. So far, the expedition has reared no results.
Kamiko's head turns at the sound of a pillar collapsing. Who knows how long this temple will last? She hovers silently above the puddles covering the stone floor. This place makes her feel somewhat uneasy, though she manages not to show it.
"Kami! I said: Look at what I found!" There's a note of annoyance in Lieselotte's tone, getting frustrated with not being answered no doubt. Kamiko feels a twinge of guilt, mixed with some apprehension.
"Just tell me. And please stop shouting, it would not be wise to make these ruins collapse on us!" Even though the two are speaking different languages, they understand each other perfectly. Communicating through telepathy. The fact that they speak out loud at at the same time is a leftover habit from-
"You should come up and see! C'mon, it's super cool! Like, ultra, super cool!"
"Very well, I shall come," Kamiko responds, a smile on her face. Lieselotte had scaled the wall to get up there, though Kamiko has a much different plan. The Wind Spirit simply floats off the ground, willing herself upwards. Her yellow robes billow around her, short hair swaying with the wind she creates.
She hovers outside the opening, looking into the little alcove. Suppose it wasn't a hallway after all, she thinks.
Lieselotte turns and grins at her friend, her green eyes directed at the other's left ear. She scuttles forward on her knees, cupping something in her hands. Kamiko holds out her own, a loving smile on her face. She closes her eyes, knowing that Lieselotte is about to ask her to do so.
She opens them back up at the feel of something being placed in her awaiting palms. She chuckles, not needing to look to know what it is.
"Rocks? Lieselotte, you can be so predictable on occasion." However, when she gazes into her hands, she feels some surprise. She holds several gemstones, a beautiful caramel colour. Kamiko runs her long fingers over the uneven surface.
"That's called garnet! Humans don't like them as much as they like, say, diamonds or rubies. But I've always loved them!"
"I can see why," Kamiko says, passing the gemstones back over.
"Garnets come in lots of colours, you know. When it's this orangey colour, it's called 'spessartine'! It gets its shade from the element manganese alluminum silicate."
"Is that so? Ah, you do realize that I don't understand a word you're saying, correct?"
"Yeah, I know! Anyway, what makes garnet really awesome is-"
The Earth Spirit is cut off at the sound of another pillar crashing down. This one sounds as if it crashed into a wall, bringing it down as well. Which in turn creates more crashing sounds.
Kamiko narrows her eyes and one of her ears twitches. "It would seem it's time to run." Just for a moment, she senses a Life Spirit within these walls. A presence that hides itself as soon as Kamiko picks it up.
"Oh, wow! Feels like something is trying to destroy us!" Lieselotte giggles at this, crawling out of the alcove and into Kamiko's arms. The Wind quickly brings the Earth Spirit to the ground, dropping her from a few meters in the air. Lieselotte begins running the instant her feet touch solid rock, hightailing it.
Never having been quick on her feet, Kamiko follows her along in the air, struggling to keep up with little Lieselotte's speed. She uses the earth to propel herself forwards, leaving divots in her wake. The ground begins to tremble, the air a cacophony of the sounds of destruction. The two Elementals have to be careful, dodging debris as they make their escape.
Kamiko's head whips at an especially loud crack, seeing a portion of the high ceiling coming down on them. She grabs her fan from where it dangles off her hip, opening it, then swings her arm in a wide arc. The force of the air from doing so causes the debris to shatter to pieces with a sound like a small explosion, remnants of the once large rock dribbling down onto them.
Lieselotte, meanwhile, has taken her battle-axe off her back, hacking her way through the wreckage. Creating spires of earth that help to keep them safe by blocking large chunks of building that would otherwise crush them.
The ruins seem to begin falling faster, and Kamiko wonders if they'll make it out. As soon as the dire thoughts begin to cloud her mind, she sees light spilling in from the exit. With another sweep of her arm, Kamiko blasts the entire wall open. Her and Lieselotte make it out moments before the ruins crumble in an explosion of dust and rubble.
They keep going until they're a safe distance away, peeking through the trees at the building they were just in. Kamiko settles back onto the ground, putting her fan away. Lieselotte does the same with her axe, then starts fiddling with the garnet she discovered.
"Seems as if that was in fact a hideout. Good thing we destroyed it with our heroism," the Wind Spirit says cheerfully. She winks at the younger one, who grins back. Lieselotte, starts trying to set her brown hair back into place, messed up and coated in a layer of dust from the falling debris.
"We sure are amazing, Kami! Can we go home now? I need to add this baby to my stash!" Lieselotte seems to be practically vibrating where she stands, bouncing on her heels. Kamiko's smile widens at her excitement, even if she can't begin to understand the joy the little stones cause her friend.
"Well, shall we be off?" she asks.
The Wind and Earth Spirits move away from the ruins, completely and utterly casual as they chat. Mostly about precious gemstones, naturally.
