Yet, Zeng Lei was able to feel, and Long Chen was able to see that the small cut they’d made in her finger the day before was still there. Thus, they concluded that the cube hadn’t actually repaired the skin—it was a change on some other level.
Zeng Lei felt that this specific finger of hers was now different from the rest, almost as if it wasn’t one of her own. At the very least, it would take some time for her to get reaccustomed to it. Still, though. That wasn’t the important thing, for now. The most important thing was to find out what exactly had changed.
As Zeng Lei had a better grasp of her body, and had cultivated to a higher stage and could see the cube’s energy traces, it didn’t take too long for her to be able to come up with a theory, and explain it.
“The impurities in my finger have been expelled, and the internal structure has been strengthened… as if this was the original state it should have had.” Zeng Lei slowly explained. “It’s not as if its gone through some kind of refining process… it’s just... returned to its original state.”
Long Chen scratched his head. “I guess that explains why your value was negative to begin with. If your foundation wasn’t stable, or perfect, as the cube seems to be implying, then it would have a negative value. As for me, I’m only a martial Apprentice, so I hadn’t cultivated enough to change my body much yet… and that’s why my values weren’t negative. That makes sense.”
“Dummy, you forgot to mention the most important part. This means that if you could ‘perfect’ yourself, then you would be able to reap incredible benefits from the cube. Not to mention, it even mentioned evolving. I wonder, how would that work?”
Long Chen shrugged. “That’d be cool, yeah, but the cube is too small. If it was bigger, we’d be able to fit ourselves in it.”
Silence filled the room as the both contemplated this issue.
“Hmm…” Suddenly, Zeng Lei jumped up. “Wait, I think I know why! It’s like thunder and water. The fingers are all connected. Hurry, improve them!” She urged him as she placed her finger back into the cube.
Zeng Lei finger status perfectly matched. Evolve?
Energy: 99.421%
“Wait, now all the fingers on your left hand are the same.” Long Chen didn’t quite follow what was going on.
“Dear, sometimes you’re a little slow, haha. I wonder if I should have been the one to have the cube.”
She raised her left hand, and the moment she touched the cube, it expanded to engulf the entire hand.
Zeng Lei hand status: -203%
Energy: 99.421%
“You win, you win. It’s my bloodline and yet you somehow understand it faster than I do!” Despite his words, though, Long Chen smiled.
She laughed, “What are you waiting for… don’t you want to help your wife improve?” She joked.
The energy in the cube decreased again, but her hand had been improved to be “perfectly matched”, whatever that meant. This time though, she didn’t move her arm from the cube, and it enlarged to reach her elbow.
After the cube was done improving Zeng Lei’s forearm, it enlarged again to engulf her entire left arm. They repeated this process for the toes, feet, knees, and even her legs. Soon enough, they’d improved every part of her body apart from her head.
As Zeng Lei’s body was improved, Long Chen could barely hold himself back. Her body had been improved by a huge margin, and he could barely resist pushing her down on the bed.
Oh, and the energy in the cube had decreased to about 95.4%, but Long Chen didn’t really care about that.
“I…” He wanted to tell her that the cube could heal her eyes, but he didn’t have much hope. Something like that would be too crazy.
If other people were to hear Long Chen’s thoughts they’d probably want to kill him. One had to understand, Zeng Lei’s body had already been improved to a point where she was capable of fighting someone an entire rank above her. Just that was enough to see the cube’s capabilities, but that wasn’t all—even her cultivation speed had been vastly improved to almost double her previous speed. Every. Part. Of. Her. had been improved.
Zeng Lei knew what her husband was thinking. “It’s ok. If it happens, then great. If not, that’s it.” Her voice was firm, but in her heart, she held a faint thread of hope.
“Just do it.”
“Alright.”
The cube’s energy decreased to 90%.
Unfortunately, Zeng Lei’s eyesight didn’t return, and the scar on her face was still visible. Furthermore, her eyes still hurt. But, there was something that felt different about her face. She gently touched her scar with her fingers. It had definitely changed a little, but...
As for Long Chen, his jaw dropped as he processed the influx of information he’d received from the cube.
Zeng Lei
Age: 20. Change?
Gender: Female. Change?
Body: Common Body. Evolve?
Cultivation: Martial Warrior, 4th. Improve?
Cultivation Manual: Nameless Female High-Mortal Cultivation Manual. Evolve?
Bloodline: Hidden. Awaken?
Talent: 3% Improve?
Myriad Stars Blessing: Awaken?
Fire-S2. Improve?
Wind-S1. Improve?
“Hell NO! Never!” Long Chen shouted on seeing that he could change Zeng Lei’s gender. He didn’t even process the rest of the information before his outburst.
He closed his eyes again, and the information reappeared, but this time the gender couldn’t be changed. It seemed the cube had understood his intentions and had hidden the option.
Zeng Lei was yet again scared by the sudden shout and immediately asked Long Chen what happened. He sat her down and told her about the information that had appeared in his head.
“This is too crazy… I didn’t know I had a hidden bloodline.” She laughed, half joking half serious. “Hmm… the main problem now is that we have to be very careful regarding what we improve, and what we don’t. I doubt the cube will harm us, but if we were to suddenly change too much, people would suspect us. At the very least, we can’t change too many things until we leave for the Thousand Sect.”
“Well, we still need to understand how much this cube’s energy is worth. Perhaps it would be better to upgrade certain things and not others.” Long Chen was starting to understand how the cube worked. “Still, it improved your body so much, and the cube only considers it a common body. What would a normal human be, then? And your talent, it’s only at 3%...” The couple laughed.
“If I only have 3% talent, what do you have, 0%?” Zeng Lei joked as she stole a quick peck on her husband’s cheek.
“Who knows, maybe it’s negative. That would explain a lot.”
“Anyway, you should upgrade your body. I’m curious to see what will change. You’re already very handsome, after all. I’ll go cultivate. I think after the upgrade, I’m ready to try for a breakthrough.” Zeng Lei said, moving toward the cultivation room.
Long Chen watched her curves move away from his sight. He smirked as some dirty thoughts entered his head. After a moment, though, he shook his head. It was time for him to use the cube on himself.
He slowly went through the same process his wife had, and as expected, it worked without a hitch. Once his status was “perfectly matched”, he could see his own information.
Long Chen
Age: 20. Change?
Gender: Male.
Body: Common Body. Evolve?
Cultivation: Martial Apprentice, 2nd. Improve?
Cultivation Manual: Worthless. Evolve?
Bloodline: Origin Bloodline.
Talent: 0% Improve?
Myriad Stars Blessing: Awaken?
Origin-S1. Improve?
Instead of taking 10% of the cube’s energy to improve himself, though, he’d only spent 5%. This was to be expected though, as he was far weaker than Zeng Lei.
He thought about something as he looked at his stats. If he could directly improve his cultivation, and his body’s strength, what was the point of cultivating? He could just directly break through to higher realms of power with the cube.
Perhaps, he could use the cube on others and improve their cultivation methods. It would be worth it to them, and they’d likely pay him a great deal of money… but how would he explain the process? That he’d just somehow changed the cultivation methods in their heads? That was just too crazy to explain away.
Long Chen didn’t think about this and further, and decided to work on improving his cultivation.
He felt the cube releasing a dense energy, totally different from his own. It felt far purer as it filled his meridians.. The accumulated energy made it incredibly easy for him to break through, as the barrier blocking part of his meridians were instantly destroyed, and the new energy freely flowed through.
Cultivation: Martial Apprentice, 3rd. Improve?
Energy: 87%
The feeling of breaking through was simply amazing. Long Chen instantly felt far stronger. He knew this feeling was a misconception, as the feeling was even more amazing than the real amount of strength he had gained. Still he was happy about it. Even more so, when he found that he’d only spent 3% of the cube’s energy.
Just to test the cube, he tried it again.
Cultivation: Martial Apprentice, 4th. Improve?
Energy: 83%
This time, it had cost 4% But, it was enough for him to understand the cube’s rules. Each realm would cost 1% more. With how strong Zeng Lei was, improving her cultivation would probably cost somewhere in the double digits.
The question now, was how to refill the cube’s energy.
While he was thinking, Zeng Lei rushed to him anxiously.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I have a cube on my head.” She spat out.
“What?!” Long Chen shouted.
He immediately closed his eyes, trying to feel his cube. And indeed, the moment he tried, he could feel another one inside Zeng Lei. Trying to feel it further, directly presented all of Zeng Lei’s information into his head.
Before telling her anything, he tried to improve her talent. upon his command, the cube inside Zeng Lei’s head activated, releasing a wave of energy into her brain.
She felt it happening, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.
And just like that, Zeng Lei’s talent was upgraded to 4% despite Long Chen only spending a minuscule 1% of energy.
This was great news as he could evolve her without being next to her. This made him feel excited, with it he was sure he could help her even more. Still, the problem remained the same amount of energy.
Long Chen recounted everything that had happened. Her wife was quietly sitting near him listening to him recount his though and guesses. Once he finished he remained silent waiting for his wife’s response.
It didn’t take much time for her wife to ask for something, she told him to raise both of them talents to 10%
Just moments later, the two felt their brains burn with activity. 16% of the cube’s energy was spent, and truth be told, they felt that it was well spent. 16% was enough for them to grow into peak existences in the future. Even coveted geniuses typically only had talents of 5% to 8%. Of course, that was only in the Dragon Land. The Myriad Stars was full of talents that were far superior.
Still, these increases were enough to leave geniuses of the Dragon Land in the dust. This was the conclusion that Zeng Lei had reached, after noticing that her thoughts were more clear than before. With such improvement, it was normal for her and Long Chen to want to improve themselves further.
“Now, think about the cube. Everything should be clearer now.”
Long Chen couldn’t agree more. Now, when he thought about the cube and its mysteries, what used to be beyond him seemed so obvious. There was even a way for him to increase his trashy cultivation manual. Actually, Long Chen was sure that the cube’s powers weren’t limited to what they had seen so far, but he didn’t have anything else that he wanted to try.
In two days, the couple would leave the Long clan to go to the Thousand Sect. With their improvements, they were extremely confident in themselves.
After discussing their future, and what they would do to prepare for the next two days, Long Chen grew bored of talking and dragged his wife off to bed.
