"This has to be the best day of my life!" I giggled, wiggling my butt around the seat. "This is so amazing Tripp, I can't believe I'm riding in a Ferrari!" Not even thinking about the fact that he totally wants to get in my pants again, I was having the time of my life, riding in a car that costs more than I'll ever see in my life. I don’t even care anymore if I have to do some big presentation with him. Ferrari!
He did say anything, but this time his smile actually seemed kind of sincere.
I quieted down and pondered for a bit. “What’s it like having so much money that you can use a Ferrari as an everyday car? It must be great, I mean you can have anything you’ve ever wanted.”
My question must have shocked him, he’s obviously used to being around women who also were very wealthy. He turned to look at me slightly, still keeping an eye on the road at the same time. “Surely we don’t pay our engineers that badly right? I guess I don’t actually know how much anyone who isn’t a president of something gets paid.”
I suddenly came to a realization that I wasn’t having a discussion with a friend, I was having a discussion with the CEO of my work place. “Sorry forget I said anything.”
“No.” He said firmly. “Now I’m curious about your living conditions.”
“I mean it’s not horrible, I can afford a one bedroom apartment, though I wish I wasn’t around so many noisy people. It’d be nice to be able to afford a new car. But yeah I mean I guess I don’t get paid terribly.”
“That’s unacceptable. I’m looking into this first thing when I get back.” He looked so serious, gripping the steering wheel so hard it turned his knuckles white.
I pondered my reply for a minute, was Tripp actually doing something nice for me? “Thanks Tripp, I’d appreciate that and thanks for letting me ride in your Ferrari.”
"Anytime Babe."
"Does that mean you'll let me drive it?" I joked. Why am I just ignoring the fact he keeps calling me babe? I guess I don't really mind it all that much, hell I may get a pay raise out of it. Sure as hell got to ride a Ferrari.
"Can you drive stick?" He rounded a corner, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Does video games count? Shit no I can't even in a video game." I laughed.
"I'll teach ya sometime then, not today. We need to get to the Tech Of The Year conference."
"Whoa, whoa wait, you're taking me to Tech Of The Year?! Like no shit?!" My internal fan girl was totally going off. It's the biggest conference of the year to show case new immerging technology.
"We're meeting a few investors there to give a sales pitch for our new flip smartphones. The market isn't great for them yet but there is hype so we are hopeful."
"Eeee I'm so excited, I've always wanted to go to Tech Of The Year!"
He took one hand off the steering wheel to cover his ear closest to me. "Hey calm down screaming banshee! I need this ear!"
"Hehe sorry."
"Don't get too excited, I need you there to hype up the technical aspects of our phones." He removed the hand covering his ear and returned it back to the steering wheel.
"But I don't really know anything about the phones, I may be an engineer but I'm a Systems Engineer so I had nothing to do with the design phase or anything."
"Look in my bag in the back, I have a few prototypes and the spec sheets, feel free to take a look around the phone and get familiar with it. We still have a few hours left of drive time."
I grabbed the bag from the back and fished around for the spec sheet and a phone to demo and tossed the bag back. I inspected the phone, it had a screen on the outside but folded open and clicked together to create a tablet type screen. I tested how sturdy it would be and how well made. I looked for any bugs in the design and messed around in the operating system to find flaws. Not going to lie there were a few, but it is a prototype model so it's not going to be perfect. I studied the spec sheet get more familiar with the components it uses. Luckily this occupied a lot of the drive, as once I got invested with something technology wise Im really immersed and could spend hours on it. Tripp may have tried talking to me once or twice but only got a grunt in return. He was nice enough to make a bathroom stop. After a few hours of tinkering around with the phone we finally made it to the hotel we'll be staying at for the conference.
