"I'm so sorry. I really didn't know." Anette said as she stood up. She hated hearing the story. The pain the captain went through made her heart ache. And the fact that Nico was the one that got to comfort Ren made her feel even worse. "Even so, she still deserves to know all that she can about her father's killer."
"How can you say that after hearing the story? Do you even care for Ren at all? Or maybe you're just using her as a lifeline so you wouldn't have drowned in the water."
"I'm not, I swear I will repay Ren for helping me so many times. I do care, I really do. Why do you think I told her in the first place? That's why I will make sure she never goes into that state again. I promise I will help her just like she did me." Anette, determined, walked away from Nico to talk to the Captain.
~You'll help her, huh?~ Nico repeated those words in his mind. He felt a horrible sting in his chest as he watched Anette place her hand on Ren's shoulder and talk to her gently. He noticed the different expressions Ren always makes when talking to Anette. He noticed the bond between the two become stronger, and that is what caused him pain.
Anette gently touched Ren's shoulder and smiled as if nothing was wrong. "Ren? Are you alright?"
"Hm? Oh yes I am. I was just finding Redtown on the map." The Captain held up the creased map to Anette. "It should be towards the north. Just passed Lion's Peak." Anette stared at Ren and saw the fiery dedication in her eyes. She could tell once the captain had set her mind on something, it would be difficult getting her off of it.
"Ren, will you - uh, will you promise me something?"
"What is it?" Ren asked without glancing up from the map.
"Will you promise to take care of yourself?"
This made Ren turn to Anette, "Huh? Lovely? Why ask such a silly question? Of course I will take care of myself?"
"Are you sure? You will keep eating properly? And get plenty of rest at night?"
"Lovely, I'm a pirate, how much rest do you think I usually get?" Ren raised her right eye brow in a gleeful way. She chuckled then went back to her map.
"It's just, Nico said - "
"I know, I know, last time when I tried looking for the scoundrel I became ill. Is that what you're worried about? My health?" She nudged Ren in the arm. "How sweet."
"I - uh I just, I - "
"Don't worry lovely, I've grown up since then. I know how to multi task now! I can look for the criminal AND stay in decent health. Also, back then I had no clue where to find him. Now I have a place to go, I have a lead." The Captain smiled at Anette, who was pouting.
"Alright, just make sure you keep eating." Anette insisted.
"Will do."
"And get plenty of rest. If you don't I'll have to make you go to bed myself."
"Hmm," Ren leaned in close to Anette's cheek. "Intriguing."
"Ah!" Anette stepped back, just realizing what she had said.
