That darkness was so comforting, even more so than the light, yet I hated the dark, I was afraid of it. I never wanted to wake up again, it was really quiet and it wasn't as cold as everyone described it, it was even warm and soft, more than my bed.
Back then, that wasn't the darkness of death. It was simple darkness, the same as when you fall asleep, what you need, the one that lasts only a short time, that darkness that forces you to meet the light in the end.
I slowly opened my eyes. Confusion overwhelmed my every single thought. I raised myself on my elbows, massaging my head, had I hit somewhere? It hurt and felt heavy. No ... I didn't hit ... I fell, they shot me ...
I put my hand to my right shoulder, where I had been hit, but there was nothing, not even a scratch.
I must have dreamed everything! But, if so, where was my shirt? Those two had torn it from me... A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of the previous night. I was going to be... I couldn't even find the courage to say it ...
And then ... where was I?
That wasn't my room, I didn't even know that place. It was a square room completely white, it was neither small nor large, the walls were lined with pillows, like those rooms in the asylum, the solitary confinement cells. At the bottom, there was only one unlined point, a slit that allowed you to see outside. The only source of light was a light bulb placed on the ceiling many meters away from the ground, in order not to be able to touch it.
I was confused, what was I doing in there? Was I dead? Or was I still dreaming? What if they kidnapped me? No, the wound couldn't have disappeared that quickly.
"I-is there anyone?" I ventured to whisper.
I received only silence. Well, of course, no one would have heard me if I had spoken like that. I had to speak louder, indeed, first I had to find the courage to do so: I was too afraid.
But I had to try it!
I got up off the ground, being careful not to stumble, walking on those things was much more difficult than I thought. Only then did I realize that I was also barefoot, I didn't even have socks.
"No! Concentrate Rei, don't think about the socks!" I mentally scolded myself.
I went to the door and took a deep breath.
"Is there anyone?" I repeated in a louder voice.
The echo of my voice echoed through all that must have been the corridor.
Immediately afterwards the echo was broken by the sound of a door being thrown open.
I backed away, getting as far away from that door as possible. There was someone. Who knows what might appear in front of me. Maybe, that strange and mysterious man from last night. But was he human?
The footsteps got closer and closer until they stopped in front of my "cell". Even though I was afraid, I was looking forward to seeing my jailer. Who was he? A saviour? Or...
A pair of eyes peered out of that crack and looked at me sternly, scrutinizing every inch of my body. They were beautiful! But also scary. That gold colour was bewitching, but his gaze pierced me as if it was a blade. An uncontrollable tremor invaded me making me fall to the ground. I was so afraid.
The sound of the lock made me look away from those eyes, I wouldn't be able to hold it much longer.
The door opened slowly, producing an annoying creak, showing the figure of an imposing man.
He was tall and slender, completely dressed in black as if the shadows and darkness had enveloped him creating a perfect suit, his face was pale and with delicate features, his long black hair fell on his shoulders, confusing with the black of the clothes, while some rebellious tufts fell on his face creating the contrast with the black and white. And the eyes? Those beautiful eyes were still looking at me. He was a perfect, elegant and cold creature. Yes, his figure frightened me and gave off an unnatural cold but it also had something bewitching.
Only one particular "ruined" that perfection: his thin, pink lips, slightly parted, showed a pair of long, sharp canines.
I fell to the ground and started screaming.
The one, disturbed by my screams, came threateningly and took me by the arm, lifting me off the ground with a tug. His hand was cold, colder than ice and very pale, like milk, like that of a corpse...
"Stop yelling immediately!" the man roared, dwelling on every word.
I stopped immediately, his words left no way out: he terrified me.
It was the same voice as yesterday.
It was him! He had killed those two men!
I widened my eyes and began to fidget, trying to escape and free myself from that hold, but what I got was only pain. His grip tightened even more on my arm, hurting me.
Without saying anything he dragged me out of that "cell" and slammed me against the cold and rough wall of the corridor.
I didn't have time to react, or even to understand what was happening to me. The creature hands were next to my head with the palms pressed against the wall and his eyes were staring mine. They scared me ... made me feel small and helpless, more than usual. I couldn't have held that look for a long time.
A few seconds later, I shifted my gaze, but he didn't seem to like it, he gritted his teeth and brought his face closer to mine, growling.
I flattened myself as much as possible against the wall, I would not have been surprised if at any moment I had been swallowed. But he kept growling and soon he would do something else, so, continuing to tremble, I looked back at his eyes. Frost...
We stood still like statues for a few minutes until, finally, the figure in front of me and above me opened its mouth.
"Disgusting ... you are really disgusting!"
His voice made my tremor awaken again, which had subsided a few minutes earlier.
"I-I-"
"I didn't give you permission to speak!" he yelled angrily.
I petrified instantly. He wasn't like those other two men, he was very different, he was cold and dangerous. His gaze was enough to make me feel inferior. While his body so big compared to mine did the rest.
"I was a fool to leave you alive!" he whispered looking at me with superiority "Even if ..." he came closer and sniffed my neck "You have an irresistible smell!"
"Wha-"
He bit me so hard that I was afraid he might tear the flesh off my shoulders. A stabbing pain pierced my shoulder, the scream I released was so strong that I hurt my throat. But he covered my mouth with his hand as he drank my blood thirsty as an animal. It wasn't like cutting yourself, it was much more painful, it was like he was pulling my blood away. Drop by drop.
The worst part was that I was going to pass out, again. No! I could not!
I tried to beg him to stop, but his hand wouldn't let me, and then, would he listen to me?
As the blood was ripped away from me, my strength left me.
I let myself go, no longer able to support myself.
He, to hold me, put his arm behind my back and pulled me to him. Our breasts collided, but his was incredibly cold and I couldn't feel his heartbeat.
By now it was clear who I was dealing with ...
Tears began to gush from my eyes, wetting my cheeks and his hand.
He finally pulled his sharp teeth from my flesh, releasing me from the pain.
"So ..." he whispered after licking his lips "... good!"
A trickle of blood had escaped from his lips, soiling his pale face.
He took his hand out of my mouth and squeezed me even closer to him, placing his leg between mine.
My head was so heavy I couldn't even hold it up while my shoulder still ached.
I heard his laugh.
"From now on I will be your new master, you will do whatever I tell you." his slimy tongue licked my cheek, his mouth tasted of blood "If you even try to disobey me you will be severely punished! You got it?"
At that moment I would not have been able to understand anything, my mind was still drowning in darkness and total confusion.
But he didn't seem to like my lack of response and grabbed me by the hair pulling hard. I was pulled from the darkness by the pain and woke up with a cry.
"DID YOU UNDERSTAND?" shouted that.
"Y-yes ..." I stammered between sobs.
Was that the fate that awaited me?
I would have been subdued by a vampire ...
