The Girl Who Rang the Doorbell

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Oct 20, 2020

I expected to see darkness, but on the other side was the girl who rang the doorbell.

As I laid my eyes on her, I immediatelly stepped away from the door.

It's funny that, the first thing that crossed my mind, was not that she came back to try to contact me again, but that she stood in front of the door all this time. It was this assumption that scared me at first.

But after a couple seconds, while I was still completely still in the still of the hall, I managed to calm down.

I remembered that it's been almost an hour since she was here before.

Which means, she had returned.

I don't know why she came back so fast, but the truth is - she did come back.

I stared at the door waiting to hear the doorbell ring.

But I didn't hear any ringing.

How weird... Did it stop working. If that's the case, then she should knock on the door.

But I didn't hear any knocking.

I approached the door in silence, and looked out into the hall.

It was so silent that each step on the natural wood floor sounded like stepping on dry autumn leaves. I think I could even hear my foot joints working, like a perfect robotic mechanism.

During these 3 whole steps, my heart was accelerating like crazy.

So, I looked through the peephole.

She was there.

I asked myself.

Should I open the door?

Should I ask who is there?

Should I ignore her presence?

Should I watch her and see why she's here?

I thought for a few seconds, or rather, for one second, and decided that it was best to just open the door.

Whatever it is that she wanted, I'm not interested. Then she won't come back.

I put my hand on the handle, when another option came to my mind.

What if I just leave her there, and watch her through the peephole?

Will she go away? Will she stay there until my parents return?

No, I thought again, it's better to just settle this once and for all.

I still didn't really know what do to, but there's no time to waste. What I'm going to do is...

__ Open the door

__ Not open the door

Author's note:

That's right, in this story, you are the one who decides the ending.

So, think about what you would do if you were in this situation, or what you think the protagonist is more likely to do, and make your decision.

The next uploads are going to be:

Chapter 5.1 and 6.1 - Open

Chapter 5.2 and 6.2 - Not Open

That's going to be 4 chapter in one day.

So, you can choose the one you'll read based on the choice you took.

Of course, after that you can still read the other ending to see what happened there.

You can also go over to my twitter or instagram story right now, to vote on the choice you picked. It's going to be interesting to see what's more popular (@maksymaguiar)

When a stranger rings your doorbell, do you usually open it?
In this short story, we follow the narrator, a relatively egocentric and very much spoiled young man, who doesn't want to open the door to a woman who appears to be doing door to door sales.

About one hour after she rang the bell, he decides to check the door again, and is surprised to see that the girl is still there, immersed in the silence of an empty corridor.

He asks himself if she has been standing there all this time, and starts wondering: Is it best to ignore her again, or just open the door for once?

Read the funny thoughts and scary moments the protagonist lives in this very weird afternoon of his life.

Author's notes:
Updates every Tuesday and Saturday.
The next chapter is already out on my Patreon, if you want to check it out early.
The full story is also on my Patreon.

I originally wrote this story in portuguese, so if you prefer that language you can find the story on Wattpad and also Patreon. Click the link bellow or search for "A Rapariga Que Tocou à Campainha".
I translated the story to english, and this is the first time I'm doing this, so if you find any mistake, let me know.

This is just a short story, but still, it's my first story. Hope you enjoy!
