I still didn't really know what do to, but there's no time to waste. What I'm going to do is opening the door!
I slowly opened the door and acted surprised when I looked at her, as if I were leaving and wasn't expecting to find her there:
- Oh, hello, can I help you?
On second thought, I shouldn't be asking that, should I? It's not like I'm working in a store or something like that. But yeah.
- Hello, nice to meet you - she replied. Her voice was confident, but still soft. It sounded exactly like I imagined. - My name is Andreia. I have the pleasure to be talking to?
I froze for 1 second before replying with my name. Seriously, why don't these people just ask "What's your name?". Whenever they take these alternative routes to learn my name, it always freezes my brain!
- Nice to meet you. How are you?
- I'm fine, and you?
- Me too, thank you! Today I came here to introduce you to a new internet plan that we just launched on the market. As it is a new product, we are running a campaign: the first month is on us, and in the next 2 months you get 50% off. If you join now, you will also be able to enter a giveaway, in which the first 3 prizes are a luxury compact SUV, a 4K TV, and a holiday in Morocco for two people.
I let her say everything until the end. I even tried to make a face that makes it look like I'm paying attention, though I'm not sure if I even know how to make such face. I didn't pick up on most of what she said, because, as I suspected, she doesn't have anything interesting to me.
When it comes to the internet plan, I already have 1 Gigabit internet that's been working really well. Too well, in fact, because I can't say I lost a game because of poor connection anymore.
As for the prizes in the giveaway that no one will win, I don't think we need the compact SUV, because my dad already has a real SUV (and the most off roading he did was park in the grass of a full parking lot of a mall. What can I say? Sales season...)
Vacations in Morocco seem more like a punishment than a prize. There's no way I'm going to the desert to see camels when there's already so many at my school.
And as for the 4K TV, well, we have more TVs than people in this apartment, so I think it's enough.
I know, it seems that I'm bragging too much about my things [or rather, my parents' (or rather, the bank's)], but that was reall what came to my mind at that very moment. I also had absolutely no love for Morocco. It's hard to believe that I was so uncultured!
After thinking about all that, something else came to mind.
As much as I hated people like this girl in front of me, it was amazing to see her working with such dedication. She was the exact opposite of me, self-centered and lazy. I bet I would never be able to walk from door to door like her, even if people's reaction were positive. I wonder what motivates her to do this? And how does she manage to keep positive?
I felt a little bit of admiration.
It seems that the artists, vloggers and athletes that I admire so much are nothing special compared to an ordinary person, like this one in front of me, who faces tough battles and keeps moving on.
Compared to her, what am I?
I decided to be nice, even too nice, and tell her that I wanted to buy whatever she was selling:
- That seems so interesting! I had no idea that there was such an option on the market. Thank you for coming and showing me! - I'm trying to be nice, but to me it sounds like I'm being sarcastic - Do you happen to have a plan with speeds of 1Gpbs or more?
- Yes, we do! And those have an even bigger discount. I can show you all that's included! - I noticed that she got little more enthusiastic than she should. But seeing her like that made me happy too. Is this the feeling of helping someone else?
- Yes, I want to see the options! But I can't decide anything now. I have to ask my parent first.
- Oh!
- What?
- I apologize. You seemed to be older, so I assumed that... Anyway, that's my mistake. Can I show you just the options we have, then?
- Yes, and I can talk to my parents later, to try to convince them.
- Thank you, but I can stop by at another time, when they are here, and speak to them personally.
Stop by later, or wait in fron of the door? - I thought. Anyway, we decided that she'd come later that day, and if my parents hadn't arrived yet, then the next day. She also gave me a number, from her firm, in case I needed to contact the company.
- Then, have a good day - she said, taking her leave.
- You too - I replied.
The conversation should've ended here, but for some reason, I felt that I wasn´t friendly enough yet.
I'm even ashamed to share this, but just look what I did. I wanted to show more courtesy, but because she was already turning on her back and walking away, I talked very quickly and fumbled way too much.
- Do... do you want a cap of water, or coffee, or somethings?
As I said that, I felt myself blushing a lot. I just wanted to show sympathy, but now I don't even know what I'm doing.
- Oh, thank you, but there's no need! - she replied, with a genuine smile.
- Are you sure? Then... see you soon!
- Bye!
I closed the door, and then I heard the elevator door opening. I even thought of insisting, but I'm glad I didn't. This was awkward enough. Like, what if she said yes? Would she be waiting at the door for me to serve her, as if I was her waiter? And then she would drink in front of me, in silence, or listen to me trying to make small talk like an idiot? She must know to avoid those situations, I guess.
Anyway. I'm going back to my game.
I grabbed the controller, but I didn't feel like gaming anymore. I turned off the game, even though I was in the middle of a stage.
Then, I packed my backpack for the next day, ignored my homework, and spent the rest of the afternoon reading a light novel, while waiting for the girl to come back.
But, she didn't come back.
And neither did my parents.
