The Unknown Bounty - The Mandalorian

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Oct 14, 2020

"Give us your credits, freak!" A little boy crossed his arms. He was confident with black hair and olive skin.

"But, M-mama gave them to me-" a girl with grey skin cowered back from the bully.

"I said give me those credits! A freak like you don't deserve them!" The boy pushed the girl to the ground. She fell with a small yelp of surprise.

"P-please, my family is super poor. W-we can't afford-"

"I don't care! Give me the bloody credits!" The boy reached out his hand, anger planted onto his face.

"Hey!" Another girl stepped in front of him, pushing the boy back. Her long blond hair danced with the sudden gust of wind that blew by. She narrowed her green eyes at him. "Leave her alone, you bonehead." She was a head taller than him.

The boy growled under his throat. "Or else what? I'm not scared of you!"

"I said scram you weak child." She held up a gloved fist and a tiny shotter loaded with two bullets raised from her glove.

"Ah- ok! Fine!" The boy immediately turned and ran the opposite direction.

The new comer sighed and lowered her fist, the shooter disappearing back into its compartment. She turned to the bullied girl but only found empty space in place of the girl she was protecting.

She girl looked around, confused. With a shrug she went back to her business.

The next day the blonde haired girl quietly walked through the marketplace. She saw multiple different booths that were all so interesting and full of buyers. The girl didn't have any credits though. The past few days she had been unsuccessful at gaining credits or gold.

She stood where she was and admired the bright blue sky. It was a cloudless day with light wind currents.

The girl almost gagged in surprise when someone ran into her and wrapped their arms around her lower stomach. She blinked and looked down to see the small school girl from the day before.

She whimpered quietly into her clothes and clung tightly to her body. The girl looked up to see the boy from yesterday along with his friends.

"AH-" he stopped when he met eyes with the girl who threatened him. She glared hard at him, not saying a word "Ugh. Guys let's go…" the four jogged past the girls, whispering to one another in confusion and anger.

"Are you okay?" The blondie hugged the little girl close to her.

"N-no...they were chasing me, again!" The girl let out a small cry and hugged tighter to the stranger.

The girl sighed. "Come on." She heaved the small girl up onto her back and gave her a piggy-back-ride back to her alleyway.

"Tell me your name." The little girl pleaded as the sky began to grow dark. She cuddled into a thin twine blanket next to the girl who saved her.

"Called me…Maki." The stranger pulled a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.

"Cool. I'm Amanda."

There was a pause.

"Can we be...friends?" Amanda asked, looking up at Maki.

The girl hesitated to answer. "Sure." She said finally with a smile. "Where's your family?"

"Oh...well, daddy went to sleep for a very long time and mama is at home." She looked down quietly.

Poor thing, doesn't know her dad has passed… Maki bit her lip and wrapped an arm around Amanda.

"I bet your mama loves you very much, you know?" Maki attempted to change the subject.

"Mama cares about me. She's very quiet and sad though." Amanda confessed, leaning into her new friend. Stars started dotting in the night sky as she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Maki sighed in sadness. Poor little girl, she thought.

A week later, Maki slashed a sharp glass shard against her beautiful blonde hair. Strands of hair fell to the ground around her.

"Maki?" She almost jumped when hearing Amanda's voice.

"Yes, Amanda?" Maki looked up and stared in shock when she saw two little horn buds on top of Amanda's nervous, smiling head. "Horns? That's so cool!" She smiled at Amanda. "You look beautiful." She added, making the little girl's smile turn into a grin.

"Thanks, Maki, but what are you doing to your hair?" Amanda asked, crouching next to her.

"Trimming my hair. I don't have enough credits to get it done so I'm doing it myself-" Maki slashed another clump of hair off.

"But yours is so pretty…" Amanda mourned over the wasted hair.

"It's fine, Little One." Maki wrapped an around her and gave Amanda a light hug.

"Well, then I bet it'll look great!" Amanda said cheerfully.

Throughout the next three months, Amanda and Maki became close and did everything together. Went to the market, went to parties, went to spacial events, anything they could do together, they did.

Maki yawned. She smiled at her memories and lay her head back against the brick wall of her alley way. She took a piece of bread dipped in raspberry jam and popped it in her mouth. The sky began to darken and the air grew colder as she started to close her eyes.

She was half asleep when she heard an all familiar, beeping sound.

Her eyes popped open and she quickly gathered her stuff up into a small leather bag Amamda had bought for her the day before. She didn't have time to tie her hair up as the beeping sound became quicker. she pulled her cloak hood over her head and as quietly as she could, she jumped up to the flat roof of the alley way building.

Her footsteps clicked quietly on the wooden roof as she lay flat against it. Her heart pounded as the beeping sound grew rapid and loud.

A bounty hunter was close.

"Where is she?" A woman asked. Maki breathed as quietly as she dared against the wooden roof.

She didn't have her mask on. If anyone found her, they would know what she looked like.

"I'm sure she's close. I had to go through four villages to find her so she better be somewhere." Another voice said. It was deep and monotone, a man's voice.

Going through all the trouble to find me? Why? The girl bit her lip and her heart pounded.

"Well, please find her. She killed my husband two days ago." The woman pushed.

Sorry, ma'am, Maki rolled her eyes. The beeping of the tracker was so loud and quick that she felt uncomfortable. She didn't know if she should risk leaving or not.

"Well, right now she's not going anywhere," the man started.

"Please! We need to find her!" The woman interrupted.

The girl winced at the conversation. She yawned as quietly as she could as the sky grew darker.

"Hold on…" the man whispered. Maki heard a cling from metal and saw fingers latch to the edge of the roof.

Shot shot shot shot shot shot, Maki's mind panicked. Then she saw a metal helmet pop over the edge of the roof. It was the Mandalorian from earlier. And he saw her face.

Immediately, Maki maneuvered her body and kicked the man's helmet as hard as possible.

"Gah!" The Mandalorian fell backwards into the ground with a thump. The lady with him gasped.

"Get her! Hurry!" She yelled as Maki pushed herself up and jumped onto the next roof. She pressed a button on her glove but nothing happened.

Shot! Forgot to get smoke bombs! Maki bit her lip and looked behind her to see the man in full steel armor jump across the first roof.

She gasped and ran across the houses. She jumped across the small gaps onto each one, her panicked pace steady.

Then something wrapped around her ankle right before she jumped to another roof. She got pulled backwards, making her almost face plant into the wooden planks. Maki caught herself last second and looked over her shoulder.

The Mandalorian tugged her back even farther. Maki held up her fists at the bounty hunter and little blasters opened up from her gloves. She once again pressed the button on the side of her glove and red beams started shooting out of the blasters.

"AHH-" the man held up his forearms as Maki kept shooting him.

She quickly pointed one of the blasters at the rope holding her and it snapped within two blasts.

She quickly pushed herself back up and jumped into the closest alley way while still shooting the booty hunter.

Then, without any hesitation, Maki raced into the shadows, fleeing the Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian huffed and lowered his forearms. The girl was gone. He groaned and jumped down from the house roof onto his feet.

Wasn't the first time someone got away from him, but he was still going to go after her. She couldn't get far yet. Me mentally sighed and thought of the dark silhouette of the girl's face. It was mostly blocked by the shadow of the night sky, but he was able to make out her pale skin.

"Did you get her?" The woman he had come with asked.

"No." The Mandalorian said hesitantly. "But it's only been a few minutes. She couldn't have gotten far in that short amount of time." The bounty hunter thought for a moment. "Did you see, she had mini blasters built into her gloves."

"I wasn't able to see her but I heard the noise." The woman bit her lip. "We need to find her. She needs to pay for killing my husband."

"Don't worry, ma'am. We'll find her." The Mandalorian faced the woman and her black hair swayed in the light breeze.
