- What hurts you, cute?
-The heart.
She began to cry more intensely while saying things like "I loved you" or "You were my best friend" and "I trusted you." Natalia looked at me horrified, maybe she was just as scared as I was at the possibility that the girl in front of us was suffering from some kind of heart attack. Also, she had never liked seeing people cry because they made her feel helpless because she couldn't help.
"Lia, bring my backpack, please."
Natalia, happy to get out of that depressing place, went in search of my backpack leaving me alone with the destroyed girl. I assumed that if she had been suffering from some kind of seizure I would not be able to speak the way she was doing so I bet because she had suffered some kind of crisis.
"Easy, pretty." Breathe and boot, that, carefully. Do you want some water?
The girl nodded her head. I opened my bottle and handed it to her carefully as strong tremors ran through her body.
- And what's your name?
Her whisper was almost inaudible but it was enough to reach my ears and not get lost in the currents of air. Hearing her name I recognized her with surprise. She was one of the gym girls, a pretty popular girl and rarely, if ever, alone.
-Teresa.
- And you want to tell me what happened to you?
She looked at me with narrowed eyes, as if assessing whether I was trustworthy. After a few uncomfortable minutes she closed them again and began to speak.
"You must know that I was dating Stefano." The handsome soccer boy. - He released those words with hatred and resentment - I thought our relationship was going well, we were perfect, surely the envy of the whole school. I gave him everything I could, but it seems that for him it was not enough and today, when I entered the room this morning, I-I found him kissing ... Rita, Rita who was my best friend.
The cries, which had left her body only a few minutes before, resurfaced. I did not know what to answer, as much as I would have liked to tell Teresa that she could not have known that something like that would happen to her, I did not.
My thinking about teenage love was quite negative. He found those girls who gave it all for a love that rarely lasted more than a couple of months were a bit of a jerk. Lia said she thought that just because I had never fallen in love and she might be right. She was something of an expert in suffering for love, on the contrary, I did not have in mind to let someone break my heart.
I looked at Teresa with pity, she probably never could have imagined that one of her best friends would take her boyfriend away like that. I, on the other hand, at my 17 years old I have already managed to notice some recurring events in relationships before ending disastrously.
a) The boy gets bored first: This was what happened most often, since boys our age are not very interested in commitment and prefer to have fun with different girls than feel tied to just one.
b) The girl gets tired: Maybe the girl also prefers to have fun with different boys and not feel tied, or it can also happen that the girl meets another boy with whom she falls madly in love and forgets her old boyfriend.
c) The boy cheats: This comes hand in hand with point a, normally the "good" boys break up with the girls before going in search of more. But there are also occasions where the man prefers to maintain the relationship and have fun in secret, because the danger of being discovered excites them. When this happens something very recurrent is that the boy cheats on her with the best friend -I am not saying that all the best friends are willing to lose a friendship for an adventure- because they usually share the same tastes and, therefore, they tend to find beautiful and nice to the same people and that leads to a more romantic interest in your friend's boyfriend.
There are even the most exaggerated cases where the boy cheats on his girlfriend with her mother but, personally, I find that it is something more sick and less recurrent.
Finally, there is the possibility that the boy cheats with his girlfriend's sister or cousin, mainly due to the physical resemblance and the attraction that this produces.
d) The girl cheats: Women cheat mainly because they no longer feel anything towards their partner, but they refuse to end the relationship for fear of being single and losing that protection that a relationship can give you.
At that moment Lia returned with my blue backpack, interrupting the awkward silence that had formed in the bathroom. I opened one of the closures on it and took out a small vial with some seeds inside.
—Take these celery seeds, they will help calm your nerves and, if your heart continues to hurt, you can make a tea with these hawthorn flowers, they can cure any heart problem.
Teresa gaped at me.
"Are you some kind of witch ... or drug dealer?"
I smiled to myself as I remembered how many times I had asked my mom the same thing.
—No, I only like plants and the capacities they have to cure almost all ills.
-Well thanks.
I smiled at her and she got up carefully, walked over to the mirror and tried to fix her ruined makeup. She faked a smile and walked out of the bathroom moving her hips.
Lia went over to the mirror to touch up her lipstick and looked me in the eye for the reflection of it.
"You're good, you should get paid."
"I'm not going to charge to help a girl stop suffering from a bad love." It would be cruel to take advantage of a situation like that.
Lia ignored my words, as almost always, and kept rambling in her thoughts.
"Just think about it," Lydia Simons, the priestess of love. "
I looked at her in horror, I didn't know anyone who would like to be known by that name.
"Okay, you have to improve the name, but you must accept that it is not a bad idea."
"You're right, it's not a bad idea." It's a lousy idea.
Lia turned to face me and looked at me with one of her typical lopsided smiles. Those that warn of danger.
