Tripp took any chance he could get to flaunt his wealth, he drove me in his Ferrari to a clothing boutique store. Each piece of clothing costs more than my car does. I made the mistake of glancing at a cute skirt suit's price tag. I grabbed Tripp by the arm and whispered into his ear. "Tripp I can't afford to shop here!"
He wrapped his arms around my waist, bent down, and whispered. “No worries dear, It’s on me. Get anything you want!” I hated to admit it but I actually kind of enjoyed being in his arms so I didn’t swat him away, pretty sure he noticed.
“Awww!” One of the sales ladies exclaimed. “You two are just the cutest couple! Oh honey you would look great in this dress!” She pulled a matching pencil skirt and blazer off the rack.
“Oh we’re not a co-“
Tripp interrupted me. “That would look good on her, Sera go ahead and try it on to be sure they have the right size.”
I followed the sales associate to the women’s fitting rooms to try on the suit, they also picked out a purple dress shirt to wear under the blazer. I checked the price tag of each clothing item before trying them on. The blazer itself was five thousand dollars. The total cost was around thirteen thousand. I nearly had a heart attack seeing this. I can’t believe thirteen thousand was like nothing for Tripp to spend on clothes. I’m not even confident I’ve spent that much money my whole life on clothes. I suddenly felt a little guilty, thirteen thousand could buy a lot of clothes for needy people who can’t afford their own. Maybe I could get Tripp to donate a bunch of clothes to the needy after this conference is over. After all is said and done, the suit looked amazing on me, and if Tripp was buying, then what was the harm?
“How’s it looking Sera?” Tripp called from outside the dressing room. I stepped outside to give him a peek of what it looked like. I guess it was fair for him to see if he was going to be spending this much on me. “Hot damn you look amazing. That pencil skirt really frames your ass.”
My face lit up beet red, stumbling my words, I replied. “Er thanks?” I scurried back to the dressing room to change out these clothes. I had the sneaking suspicion Tripp was staring at my ass as I walked back. Why didn’t he correct the sales person earlier that we aren’t in a relationship, just what are we anyway? Whatever, now isn’t the time to think about it. I changed back into my work clothes and exited the fitting room where Tripp was waiting for me.
“There you are, that looked fantastic, what’s your shoe size?”
“Seven and a half, why?”
He nodded toward a sales lady who returned with a set of heels and a matching purse to go with the suit. I don’t even want to know how much all of this is costing anymore. “Here ring it up.” He handed her his credit card. “Babe we should go to a more casual place to get a few other outfits for your stay here.”
“Here you are sir.” She handed Tripp the bag with the clothing items.
“Thank you. Onto the next stop Sera!”
We ended up stopping at a few places, I not only got multiple outfits and pajamas, but shoes, purses, and even a diamond necklace. I’ve never been big on jewelry but this is such a beautiful necklace I couldn’t say no.
“Tripp…” I began, sitting in the passenger seat of his car. We had been out shopping all day in preparation for the meeting tomorrow, it was already dark outside. The moon and stars shone brightly and the roads were bare. Most people had already gone home for the night. I was a bit exhausted myself but I can honestly say I had a great time. “Why are you doing all of this for me? I… I don’t understand. Why me? I’m a nobody.”
He sighed, pulling the car over. “You’re not a nobody.”
“Sorry, you don’t have to pull over, just forget about it.”
“Sera, I love you, I always have.”
“Wha… what?” I stammered in shock, I couldn’t quite find any words.
“I have you to thank for all I have, you may not remember, but I do. When I saw you that night at the company party, I instantly knew who you were, sure, I was disappointed you don’t remember who I am, but I’ll do whatever it takes to make you mine. Sleeping with you that night was just a bonus.”
“Wow…. I... “ Well I don’t really know what to say, why can’t I remember who he is? What did I do? He has me to thank for his empire? “I- I don’t understand… Tripp... “ I stammered, I just couldn’t get a full sentence out.
“It’s okay, you’ll remember with time.”
