I had gotten used to the weight
As I held the blade above my head
Calloused hands grasped the wire wrapped leather
Deep breath in
And out
My eyes didn’t close as I visualized
My target before me
All it takes is a moment
A step forward
A twist starting at the ball of the feet
Then at the hips
Finally at the shoulders
All in one fluid motion
A beautiful silvery arch
Proper alignment
Powerful follow through
Never stop
Don’t hesitate
Flow
A silent cut
My target slowly spills open
And the scent of fresh watermelon fills the air
