Later, Darren waited in the hospital lobby for Chantel, since the doctors given her an all clear. He got up from the chair when she walked in with a nurse. Like a worried brother, Darren checked around Chantel's body, mainly her arms and legs, to see if there were any bruises in the event someone hurt her. He saw her annoyed face when his eyes met hers.
“Sorry.” Darren backed off, moving his hands away from her. “I’m just trying to be responsible for you while we’re here.” He put his hands in his pocket as they two walked out of the hospital.
“I’m a grown woman, Darren. I’m fine. Man, you’re just annoying as Jesse.” Chantel spat.
As the two exited the hospital, they headed back to the building they stayed at. Chantel talked to Darren about the things Roland told her about being related to him. She even asked questions about the device that Darren uses to suppress their powers. So, Darren gave Chantel a short crash course on how to use the suppression device. He used his device on his wrist to teach her how to use it.
Darren switched the suppression setting on his, while Chantel switched on her’s at the same time. Observing Chantel, she learned pretty quickly on how to use the device. Chantel couldn’t stay on a level higher than 20% without feeling nauseous. He put his hand on her device and changed her suppression level back to its original state. Chantel took a deep breath when the lesson was over.
“Man, this is so complicated.” she said.
“You’ll get the hang of it.” Darren entered the building to see Leticia sitting in the lobby with her brother, Raphael.
He wanted to avoid the siblings, but since Leticia’s brother was their only ride back home, playing nice was the best course for both Chantel and him. He shut his mouth and sat down at another couch, opposite to the other one where the brother and sister were at.
“So, is there anything else that I need to know, D?” Chantel continued her round of questions.
“That’s all that I can think of right now. Just listen to your body if you know something is off.” Darren relaxed. While there was more that he needed to tell Chantel, he didn’t want to overload her with a lot of information.
While they were sitting down, Roxy and Mark were passing through the lobby. Darren saw them coming over to them, he sat up as they arrived in Chantel and his presence. Roxy sat in a space between them without warning, but showing off her perky smile. Darren watched Chantel’s face turn from neutral to discomfort then she looked down at the ground. Mark continued to stand up in a crossed arms position and rolled his eyes at Roxy.
“So, Darren, is this your friend?” Roxy pointed to Chantel, who continued not to look at her.
“Yes. This is Chantel Delisle, she is my friend and band mate. Chantel, meet Roxy, a friend of Mark.” Darren said as he showed her Chantel, who didn’t say a word to Roxy.
Chantel gave Roxy a look where she just glared at her and spoke, “I know who she is. Considering that Linda told me all about her. She told me quite a lot of stories about you.”
“Linda and I were great friends! It’s a shame that I only knew her for a short time.” Roxy’s voice sounded perkier by the minute, while Chantel just huffed at her response.
“She also said that you're a fake as hell person.” she remarked and her rudeness caught Darren’s attention.
“Chantel, you’re speaking to a celebrity here.” Darren told Chantel in a stern tone and she shot a glare back at Darren.
Obviously, from the look of her face, she didn’t give a damn about that.
Roxy cleared her throat and continued to speak, “I know Linda and I didn’t get along all the time, but you shouldn’t listen to the rumors you hear about me.”
Darren did not know why Chantel was hostile to Roxy. He thought she was being a massive hypocrite about the whole thing. Darren kept silent, while Chantel and Roxy glared at each other, almost as if there was a staring contest happening. That did not last too long when Leticia came over to Roxy, giggling like a fangirl. Darren observed Roxy and Leticia’s interaction until Roxy got off the couch.
“Well, I have to take my leave. I want to offer you something. You see, there are a lot of Supernatural musicians like us in the Outsider society. We must stick together, considering we aren’t really allowed to be in professional fields like this.” Roxy said while she fixed up her hair in place.
“We’re not?” Chantel gasped.
“Oh yeah, that was the other thing I got to tell you about… There is a kind of law that Supernaturals aren’t allowed to go in public fields like the music field…but no one really enforces it, due to the fact that we’re not allowed to show off our powers, anyway. We can pass off as Non-Supernaturals for all the Outsiders could care.” Darren explained to Chantel.
“Excuse me, but like what kind of messed up rule is that?!” Leticia boomed in response to Darren’s explanation. She overheard them as she was close by to the group.
“Don’t ask me. I didn’t make it up, but they take it seriously if you are caught doing magic on the spot in public. It’s been like that as far back as I can remember.” Darren looked over at Roxy, who seemed to agree with everything that he said.
“That is why I am offering you all a chance to join the exclusive club for Supernatural artists in the Rise of Light . We don’t just protect the famous, we also protect the small times too. Mikel… Gives us protection and, if you are interested, we could help you in any way possible. We stick together, right?” Roxy then looked over from behind her to see Mark, grabbing her shoulder and nudging her to leave.
“Roxy, come on. We have to go.” Mark stated, moving away from her and headed to the lobby door.
“Oh, come on, Marky! Don’t be such a sourpuss! I’ll be right there.” Roxy followed Mark as she turned her head back at the group and told them. “Think about it.”
With that, Darren watched his brother and Roxy walk out the door. Darren sat down to think about the conversation that just happened. This was all happening too fast! He was not sure if he was ready to learn about another weird group at the moment. Everyone continued to sit around in the lobby until Raphael announced to get ready for their departure for Clare Point View.
The group nodded as they only had a brief window of time to get all their stuff together to get ready to go home. Darren looked at his wand, holding it in his hand before he packed it in his bag. He never felt free in his life and he was not ready to go back to live his normal life again. In this place, Darren did not have to worry about hiding, getting sick from suppressing his magic, or worry about where he was casting one of his spells. Even though he gave up on magic, he can still feel it in his bones.
Being a magic user is in his blood. He couldn't change that. Darren got up to follow Chantel back upstairs to get their bags. His face turned into a frown as he wanted to explore more about Roseland. Darren pressed the elevator down button as Chantel and him waited for the elevator door to open.
When the elevator arrived and the doors opened, Darren stepped inside, then Chantel came inside with him. He whispered, “So long, Roseland. Hello again, normal life.” The elevator door shut closed, taking the two of them downstairs again.
