Finally, Leticia is home at last. She stood by her apartment door as one hand went through her pocket to dig and find her keys. When Leticia found it, she opened the door to find her roommate, Linda Falls and her boyfriend, Dana Mills making out on the couch. Leticia would roll her eyes at the sight, if it didn’t make her a hypocrite since Trenton and her made out on this same couch many times. Having two couples living in one apartment suite has its perks and downsides.
What the downside? Little privacy.
Leticia closed the door softly as she tiptoed over to not interrupt Linda and Dana making out. However, they stopped making out since Leticia made too many noises! Damn her for being a loud person as Leticia stopped in place. Dana glared at her, while Leticia just shrugged at him, unbothered.
“Damn, Leticia! Why the hell do you have to be so loud?!” Dana called.
“Sorry, cuz. I didn’t mean it, I swear, I wanted to be quiet. Don’t be such a jerk about it.” Leticia grumbled, waving her hand at her cousin.
“Dana, it’s not a big deal.” Linda said, getting up from the couch and leaving the living room to go their bedroom.
Leticia was lucky to be saved by Linda, at least, from her jerkish cousin, Dana. Before she walked into her bedroom, Dana decided for some awkward moment to make conversation.
“So, how was your trip?” Dana’s tone changed to a calmer manner, which made Leticia’s eyebrow raised.
“Now you want to be nice to me…?” Leticia remarked. She crossed her arms as she saw her cousin heading towards her. Leticia’s eyes glimpsed at Dana’s “watch” on his wrist for a minute.
She noticed that it was a similar wristband to what Darren had. Raphael told her before that many of their family members are Supernatural and the same supernatural race, at least, from their mother’s side. I guess her mother wanted to keep this secret for a while. Suddenly, Dana grabbed her hand where she had her brown, tattered wristband given to her by the Rise of Light. Leticia gasped, then pulled her hand away from him. She scowled, “What the hell, Dana? Why did you grab me?!”
“Where did you get that wristband?” Dana pressed on with questions. Leticia swear to gosh that she wanted to smack him for that.
Sure, he is her cousin, but he isn’t her father.
“And why is that any of your business?” She spat, then pointed at him.
“Well, I promised your parents that I would monitor you.” Dana answered, then Leticia huffed back at him in response.
She opened her bedroom door and entered her room, then shut the door. Leticia leaned her back against the door and sighed as she threw her backpack aside. She slid down to the floor, still leaning on it. The nerve of Dana, who is treating her like a four-year-old. After getting over her slight annoyance, Leticia grabbed her backpack and unzipped it to get the box that Raphael told her to look in.
In the box, there were pictures of people, which seemed to be uninteresting, until she saw a picture of a person she thought looked familiar. A closer look revealed a woman, who looked like a younger version of her, who seemed to be with two other women and men. Though one woman looked like Lily, this piqued her interest in wanting to learn more. Leticia snatched out her phone and browsed through photos in her phone gallery; she needed to look at an old picture of her family at the beach that one summer when she was still in high school. Leticia focused on her mother, who had the same structure as the woman in the photo she observed.
“Mom?” Leticia muttered. Each picture she took out of the box revealed another mystery: Old posters, photos, and notes. Leticia took out a picture with a logo in big, flashy letters, which spelled out “Sapphire Black.” She didn’t stop looking through until she pulled out an old cassette tape. Could this be that her mother was a musician before? “Is this what Raphael wanted me to see? Why?”
Leticia heard a knock on the door and she quickly put all the things back into the box. She slightly cracked the door open to reveal Trenton had come back home from his job. Leticia let her boyfriend in as he entered the room, exhausted. He threw himself onto their one, crappy, futon bed, observing him throwing off his shoes onto the floor.
“Hey babe, you’re home? How was your trip?” Trenton asked.
“Oh, good. How was work?” Leticia sat on the bed, next to her sleepy boyfriend.
Leticia figured it would be best not to overload her boyfriend with a bunch of details about her trip. Especially how should you explain to your normal boyfriend about a magical town living next to them?
“Tiring.” Trenton stretched his arms as she watched him close his eyes.
“I’ll let you just rest. We can talk more about my trip later, babe.” Leticia took a glance at her backpack, deciding to pick it up and bring it to the desk.
She placed herself on the chair as she reopened her backpack to pull out the box again. There she went back again to look through the things. More pictures to look at! Leticia’s interest rose up as each photo of the same group became familiar, since she recognized some people in the same group of five people. Not only she noticed her mother, but her manager, Lily was in almost every photo!
Who was the other young woman and two men in the pictures? The mystery thickens when she turns on her laptop to do a little research about this so-called band coined Sapphire Black. After going through website to website, she got more of the band members names: Esperanza Monterra, Elena Monterra, Rose Petelar, and Robert Mills. Wait, who is Rose? Esperanza and Elena?
Leticia didn’t realize her boyfriend’s band manager, Robert was in this band. Leticia gasped in shock, which prompted her to look about the last man in the picture. Nothing came up! Furiously typing on her keyboard, her phone started ringing. Leticia picked up to answer without even bothering to look up to see who was calling her, while multi-tasking to type in one hand.
“Yeah?” Leticia answers the phone, using her head to hold it, while she was moving her other hand to keep on typing and browsing websites.
“Girl, you’re back? I thought you would never pick up the phone!” The voice of her best friend, Dakota rang in her ears. She never felt relieved to hear her best friend’s voice. Her search hunt continued on about this band, which was weird that this band was also from Clare Point View. Most musicians in the town knew about most of their hometown musicians in the past, but Sapphire Black? Leticia never heard of them. If they had existed, maybe Sapphire Black was a forgotten, one-hit, wonder band.
“What’s up? How was the wedding?" Leticia replied to Dakota, clicking out of another website.
“It was alright.” Dakota said. The two continued to chat from what happened at the wedding to band related business plans.
Leticia still continued searching on the websites, but giving up for now, since she couldn't find information about Sapphire Black other than a scandal that ended the band’s career. That scandal ended their career and resulted in the death of many of Clare Point View residents. Leticia read an old newspaper article which the article said that “Three of the members involved in a Supernatural Cult who rallied at the 1985 Clare Point View Music Festival.”
She continued to read more about how this rally resulted in a deathly bloodbath. Leticia was so distracted with the article that she couldn’t hear her friend calling her name.
“Leticia?! Are you listening?!” Dakota snapped her back to reality.
“What? Oh sorry, I was just…reading.” Leticia listened to Dakota again, sitting up from her chair to pay attention.
“As I was saying, Crowley got us another gig this time. The girls were planning to get together at Cho’s place over the week to go… our set list for our gig in Underwood. Okay?” Dakota repeated herself, which Leticia listened this time around.
“Whatever, we’ll do what we need to do. I’m back in tip-top shape. We’ll talk later.” Leticia hanging up on her friend, then sitting back in her chair.
Leticia was lucky that her boyfriend sleeps like a rock. Trenton didn’t mind her loud, booming voice, which often annoyed people. So sleeping through her loudness is not much of a problem for him. Now, back to the other task at hand: The weird stuff that comes from the box. Leticia lifted the box to observe the outside.
She spotted curved writing on the box initialed “R.P.” and placed it on her desk. Then another thought came to her, “Did Raphael steal this from someone ?”
It looks like she has to give it back to the original owner. Putting everything that she took out back in the box once again, she got up from her desk, and headed to exit the room once more. The living room was quiet with Dana banging away, typing on his laptop. She sat herself next to the couch, where she watches her cousin just text chatting with presumably online friends. The TV also played in the background, but it’s not like her cousin plays attention since he is too into his online chat.
“Dana! We need to talk!” Leticia shakes his shoulder.
Dana becomes startled at her aggressive shaking of his shoulder.
“Leticia, what the hell?!” Dana’s face showed annoyance of her outburst.
“Um… sorry? We need to talk about your dad.” Leticia tried to lower her voice tone enough so she wouldn’t scare him.
“What about him?” Dana asked as he put his laptop aside to pay attention to Leticia.
“Um… Your dad... Was he a part of a band? I mean, has your father ever heard about a band called Sapphire Black?” Leticia threw him into a stew of questions at once.
Dana held his hand up in the air at her to stop and growled at her. “Leticia, you know better not to yap too many questions at once.” Dana pointed to a device in his ear, attached to his head.
“Oh, sorry.” Leticia forgot about his deafness for a moment.
She repeated the questions again. One at a time and slower this time, which Dana could respond better to her questions. Leticia watched him sit back and hesitated on what to say next for a couple minutes. He finally opened his mouth to answer, “Yeah, you're gonna have to meet Robert and I have two questions for you. Where did you really go? Where did you get that?!”
Dana pointed at her brown, worn out wristband as Leticia hid it. Leticia pulled her wrist away, then hid it under her shirt.
“None of your damn beeswax!” Leticia told him as she got up from the couch then turned her attention back to her cousin. “Just know this. I’m not sick anymore and I’m ‘cured.’” Leticia didn’t tell her cousin the full details of her journey to Roseland.
She would have asked him why he never told her she or her brothers were Supernatural, if he knew all along. Leticia yawned, then headed back to her room.
“Leticia, be careful.” Leticia stopped herself from opening the door and listened to Dana’s voice. “Those secrets are kept from you for a reason. Be careful of people who will tell you lies.” Dana finished his ominous speech as he went back to what he was doing on his laptop.
His words made Leticia chilled for a moment, only to brush it off when she entered back into her room. When she was in her room, Trenton had awakened and was sitting on the bed, only waiting for her. A tired Leticia headed to the bed to lie down next to her boyfriend. Dana’s words had some sense, considering she didn’t know much about the Rise of Light, but they helped her get rid of this illness. Her life was going to get better, it has to.
Leticia felt Trenton wrap his arms around her as she looked at the moonlight outside the window. She was so lost in her thoughts of what all these mysteries and events mean to her.
“You okay, Leticia?” Trenton asked.
Leticia still looking at the moon and responded, “Yes, I am.”
