The next time Shen Jiayi regained consciousness, it was due to a numbing pain on his nape. Shen Jiayi let out a pained groan and opened his eyes. He realized that he was seated in a car on the passenger seat, and the masked man sat beside him, focused on driving.
“I see that you’re awake. How are you feeling?” the masked man asked.
“I feel like… shit. My neck is in pain,” Shen Jiayi replied as he reached out to touch his own neck. He could feel something wrapped tightly around his neck. ‘This… feels like a cloth? A gauze? Is it a bandage?’ Shen Jiayi wondered to himself.
“Don’t mess with it or you’ll reopen the stitch,” he heard the masked man said and he stopped.
‘Stitch? What have they done to me?!’
His eyes went over to glance out of the windows. Currently, they are driving through woods. Looking forward, he could see the path they going through is not developed. It was a mere dirt path. Shen Jiayi’s eyes then went down to the car handle, wondering if he could just open it now and jump out to make his escape.
‘No. If I jump out, I will get injured even if the car is driving slowly. Not to mention, this guy have a gun. He will probably shoot me dead before I can even lose him,’ Shen Jiayi thought as he quickly threw the idea of escaping out of his mind.
The drive continues and the pain on his nape continues to increase. It seems that the masked man also noticed Shen Jiayi’s pained expression and decided to take pity on him. “There’s a bottle of painkillers in the dashboard,” the man told Shen Jiayi. “You can have them.”
Hearing this, Shen Jiayi quickly opened the dashboard and looked inside. He saw that there was only a single bottle, with several pills inside. He took out the bottle, and tried to look at its label only to find it absent. “What kind of painkillers are these?” he asked warily. One could not blame him. After all, he was being kidnapped, operated on and now being transferred to who knows where against his will. ‘What if this is a deadly poison instead?’
“You can either trust me and take it, or deal with the pain. The effect of anesthesia should be running out soon and you’ll be in more pain than this,” the man informed Shen Jiayi.
“…”
‘Should I really take this? The pain is already this unbearable. Will it get worse?’ Shen Jiayi asked himself as he contemplated if he should take the medicine.
In the end, Shen Jiayi unscrewed the bottle and popped two into his mouth. He then swallowed them before he sealed the bottle again. Just as he was about to put it back into the dashboard, the man spoke again.
“You bring it with you. Its yours now.”
Shen Jiayi paused, then retracted his hand back before closing the dashboard. He then clutched the bottle tightly in his hand. ‘This is also good. Maybe there are other uses for this.’
Few minutes later, Shen Jiayi noticed that the drug had taken affect as the pain on the back of his neck has been reduced greatly. In fact, if it were not for the fact of the bandage wrapped around his neck, he wouldn’t have known that his neck had just been cut open and stitched back together.
The rest of the drive were filled with silence. Shen Jiayi doesn’t really know how much time has passed since he passed out, but by the time the car came to a halt, it was already sunset.
“We’re here. Go out, and don’t even think of running,” the man said as he got off the car.
Shen Jiayi took a deep breath and looked out at the window once more. Before him, is a huge western building. When he finally steps out of the car, he realized that it was actually a western mansion. The building alone was majestic, and it actually gives off a relaxing atmosphere with how the courtyard was decorated.
“This will be where you’ll be living in the next few days,” Shen Jiayi heard the man talk. Turning to his direction, Shen Jiayi saw the man had just closed the trunk and in his hand is a duffel bag. He then walked over and raised the duffel bag over to Shen Jiayi. “You will find some necessities in here such as clothes and toiletries. There are also few other items you’ll need for the show. A kind word of advice, whatever you have, do not disclose it to anyone else,” he added.
Shen Jiayi looked up at him before finally raised his hand and took the duffel bag from the other. To his surprise, the weight was actually quite heavy. ‘If I estimate it right… there’s about 3-5kgs here,’ he thought as he held the bag.
“Let’s go in. The rest of the cast is already inside. You were the last to arrive.”
Shen Jiayi watched the man walk towards the entrance and he quietly followed suit. The door opened and they continued walking further inside. Shen Jiayi looked around as they walked, and he could see the lavish decorations all around the place. ‘I wonder what kind of illegal entertainment show I’m dragged into. Is the show not related to the Wolf Game at all?’
The masked man continued to lead Shen Jiayi, and now they are walking up the stairs to the second floor. “The mansion is big. If you’re afraid that you might get lost when you live here for the next few days, then don’t worry. There is a handbook inside your bag which you can use to take notes. Inside, we also drew up the map of the buildings and its surrounding.”
Being lost isn’t something that Shen Jiayi is worried about. In fact, since he played a lot of games back in his original life, he was used to remembering paths and locations since he was too lazy to always consult the map. Soon, the man stopped and Shen Jiayi also stopped few steps before him.
“This is your room. And here is your key,” the man said as he handed the key to Shen Jiayi and stepped back to give Shen Jiayi way.
Shen Jiayi walked over to the door and saw a placard placed on the door, with the name ‘Luo Feng’. This was another reminder to Shen Jiayi that he is currently occupying this person’s body. Using the key, Shen Jiayi unlocked the door.
When he entered inside, he saw that inside the room was just as lavishly decorated as the rest of the mansion. A king sized double bed, a chandelier for lighting, a 55” TV, another door which Shen Jiayi assume leading to the bathroom, a shelf filled with books, a reclining sofa bed, even the carpet appears soft to touch.
“Is everyone’s room like this?” Shen Jiayi couldn’t help but ask.
“Considering that you might only experience this once in a lifetime, it is only right that you have this kind of treatment,” came the reply. “The room is like this but there are few cameras installed in this room, and there are also two in the bathroom.”
“Wait, the bathroom?! Why would you install it there?!”
“Naturally because our clients would love that. Don’t forget who you’re dealing with. We are part of the underground circle. Our entertainment naturally covers things that cannot be found in your normal entertainment,” the masked man reminded him. “It is best if you just get used to it as soon as possib—”
Ding!
His sentence was cut off as the sound of a phone notification rang. The masked man quickly reach up to his breast pocket and took out his phone. After a while, he placed it back in his pocket.
“Put your stuff inside and lock the door. We’ll go meet everyone,” he said to Shen Jiayi. “And we shall give you briefing on your tasks.”
Shen Jiayi simply placed his bag on the bed, and seeing how the bed sunk from the weight, he already knew how soft the bed would be. He did not dally much, but before he left, he took out a notebook from the bag. His action did not escape the eye of the masked man at all.
“Oh, a good choice,” he commended.
“Did you not say you’ll give a briefing? I may as well take some notes so that I don’t make a fool of myself,” Shen Jiayi responded.
If Shen Jiayi could see past the mask, he would’ve seen how the masked man’s lips curved into a smile. And unknown to him, this scene were already being streamed live to the viewers of the underground society. The screen of the broadcast channel were already flooded with comments.
