I had heard screaming, I ran to the bathroom to see what was wrong. The screaming had sounded a lot like my roomie, Ash. I skidded into the bathroom.
The first thing that hit me was the smell. The smell that only came from a sizable amount of blood. Then I saw.
Ash was on the floor, coated in blood.
He had wings sprouting from his back. Little feathers covered in blood. It was horrible. I didn’t even know what to do, but I knew the look I had on my face wouldn’t help. I was working on changing my facial expression, when Ash whispered “help me” and passed out.
I didn’t know what to do. So I did what felt the most natural. I scooped him up off the floor and put him of the counter. Grabbed the first aid kit and started tending to his wounds the same way I would treat any other injury.
I cleaned his back. I loosely wrapped it in bandaging.
I laid some old towels on the couch and laid him gently on top of them.
Then I went back to the bathroom and cleaned it until it sparkled. Then I realized he had bled all over the floor and bed in his bed room.
I had to completely toss out the sheets and rugs. But thankfully we had hardwood and tile, so the flooring could be salvaged.
Once I had the whole mess cleaned it hit me.
My roommate had wings. He had literal wings growing from his back. With actual feathers?!?
I need to calm down. I breathed in and out a few times, calming my self.
This would be ok. It would all be fine, we could figure it all out when Ash woke up.
Speaking of Ash, I heard a gasp and a thud.
I ran into the living room. Ash was tangled up in the towels and struggling on the floor. I came over to him as said “Ash”.
He stoped and looked up at me. He looked so scared. I knelt down slowly and untangled him.
Once he wasn’t trapped in a wadded up the towel he was sitting up and sipping some water, avoiding looking at anything for too long.
He looked so scared. So afraid of what would happen next.
I felt so bad for him. I was sitting next to him leaning up against the couch in silence.
I looked over at him as his eyes passes over mine I realized they were silver and red, Ash had blue eyes. I gasped. He looked back at me sharply, and whispered “What’s wrong?” I replied with “Your eyes, they changed”. He looked surprised, like he had expected something much worse.
Which I guess I could’ve answered with something much worse than his eyes. But I took out my phone and opened the camera, handed it to him and said “Look”. He took my phone and looked at himself in the small piece of technology, he gasped a little.
He whispered “My eyes” as he touched his face. Looking like he’d seen a ghost.
I just hugged him gently. He just froze in shock in melted into the hug, letting out a dry sob.
I just let him rest in my arms for what felt like about an hour as he cried off and on.
He shrugged his way out of my arms, stood, and stretched. His wings stretched out from his back, and blood flecks fell to the floor. He winced and looked at me. I stood next to him and said in a soothing tone “We should probably wash off the blood, don’t you think?” He nodded and walked to the bathroom. I realized he was only wearing his rather small boxer shorts, and felt my face grow warm. I shrugged it off and followed him.
