I found myself stuttering and stumbling over my words. How was he able to figure out so quickly? I guess it is kind of easy to tell since Gwen and I are polar opposites honestly. She's this super kind woman who is very passive and I'm well, I'm a bit rough to say the least. " I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Gotta lay off the booze." I finally choked out, causing him to look a bit sceptical.
"You just proved right there that I'm right. The real Gwendalyn is too courteous to point out my drinking habits. I don't know who you are, but you're not going to screw around with my brother like this!" He suddenly lunged at me and pulled a small blade out from his boots. He grabbed me and pressed the blade firmly to my throat. "Where is she?!" He shouted, pressing the blade closer to my throat, drawing a bit of blood. "Did you kill her?!"
I gasped as the blade cut into my skin. I begun clawing at his hands, but he had a firm grip on me. "I don't know what you're talking about! Let me go!" I tried to calm down and think logically. "How would Alexander feel about you killing his wife? You already have a strained relationship."
"What in the literal hell do you think you're doing?!" I heard a voice shout behind me followed by frantic footsteps.
"I'm taking care of this imposter for you, brother." He sounded so monotone, so terrifying.
"Like hell you are! Let go of her!" He grabbed Aero's arm and pulled it away from my neck.
Being freed from Aero's grasp I fell to the ground, gasping and sputtering for air. I held the small wound on my neck so it wouldn't bleed. I admit it wasn't that bad, I was probably being a bit dramatic. "What the fu-" I sputtered, unable to finish my sentence.
"She is not Gwendalyn, how have you not noticed? Last time I met Queen Gwendalyn she was a kind and sweet mature young lady, and this vulgar thing is not her." Aero replied, snatching his hand back from Alex, wiping the blood from his blade and placing it back In his boot.
Alex sighed. "You haven’t been here in a long time, Gwen has changed a lot since your last visit. Please refrain yourself.” He ushered me over to take a look at the bleeding. “It’s not too bad dear, you better have the doctor bandage it up.”
I nodded my head in agreement and started walking back to the castle. I overheard Alex hissing. “If you ever lay a hand on her again I will not only end you but your entire country.”
Wow, I thought to myself, Alex must really care for Gwendalyn’s safety, or mine, or you know what this whole situation is just too confusing.
“Hey doctor!” I shouted after pushing open the door. “I’m back!”
“My goodness! What happened to you?!” The nurse rushed to my side, ushering me to sit down. She dabbed at the wound with alcohol causing me to wince uncomfortably.
“I-I, uh fell and landed on something sharp.” I stumbled, trying to come up with an excuse.
“Oh dear, Doctor please take a look!” The nurse seemed to be really sweet and caring.
The doctor examined the wound and bandaged it up just as Alex and Aero burst through the door. They had an aura of tension surrounding them.
“She’s good to go fellas, watch for any further bleeding though.” The doctor helped me off the table.
“Thank you, you’ve been a big help today.” I followed the two brothers out to the hallway where they started bickering again.
Finally Aero broke away from the argument. “Finnneee, I am sorry for attempting to kill you Gwendalyn, happy Alexander?”
“Geez. I’m going to leave you two to it.” I walked away, planning to revisit the real Gwendalyn as promised. Those two sure act like brothers, even if they haven’t seen each other in awhile. Though there's going to be a lot more tension between them, despite Alex reassuring Aero that I’m Gwen I don’t think he believes it. I better keep a watch out, he may try to jump me when Alex isn’t around. Ugh like I didn’t already have enough going on.
I put on a fake smile as I entered Gwen’s room. She instantly lit up, although I still felt a bit weird about all of this Gwen and I did get along pretty well, despite our differences we are still the same person, I guess. “Hey Gwen, Alex’s brother is a total dick, look what he did to me.” I pointed to the bandage around my neck which a bit of blood had seeped through.
She gasped, “Goodness! I hope Alexander promptly kicked him back to his no good kingdom where he belongs!”
I giggled slightly, I’m still having trouble adjusting to their olden time values and speech manners. “I have no doubt Alexander would have done that if Aero had sliced your throat, but that monster is still wandering the castle. I left them bickering.”
“I shall have a word with Alexander about this!” Gwen tried to get up out of bed, I promptly caught her and forced her to lay back down.
“Lay back down! It's fine, I don’t hold much value to him, I’m just a placeholder remember? We need to focus on getting you better.”
“You know, you act rough on the outside, but you are a very kind soul. We do share a lot more in common than you think. I know you find this situation weird, so do I honestly. I protested this whole thing but relented when I was told you would die in your world. I don’t know how all of this is working, but hopefully it turns out fine. I don’t want to die, but I feel better since you got here. I think our growing bond may have something to do with it. I urge you to stick around longer, I know you want to leave if I get well enough to be Queen again, but I’d be sad if you left.” He turned toward the window, obviously thinking about the future. “I don’t know what kind of future you would have here, it's asking a lot, but I value your friendship.”
“This is weird to tell myself this, but I value your friendship too. I honestly don’t know what the future holds, but hopefully it’ll be a good one.”
