#BlackLivesMatter is a call to action. It's a challenge to the criminal justice system. But most of all, it's a declaration of dignity. Yes, Black Lives Matter too.
The murder of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of his killer George Zimmerman sparked the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Bold young leaders like Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi coined the phrase. But it resonated for a reason. The nation witnessed it too many times: Harsh policing and sentencing for Africans Americans and impunity for vigilantes, like George Zimmerman, and police officers, like Darren Wilson.
