Noah woke up a bit disorientated. He was unfamiliar with his surroundings until he remembered he was in Gael's room. He sat up quickly and was surprised to see a piece of cloth fall off his forehead onto his lap. He picked up the cloth to feel that it was still a bit damp.
'I've troubled someone yet again.' He pursed his lips in annoyance. All he did during his stay was cry and act like a damsel in distress—a weak, pathetic person. He blamed himself for these shortcomings; he had never been like this before.
Actually, when he recalled how he acted before he was presented as an omega, he realized he had always been this way... There had been tons of hints proving his identity as an omega, but he had been too dense to figure it out.
He had liked Rana, but that wasn't love; it had only been superficial, a way to satiate his omegan side. Naturally, he was smaller than the other males, and never fit in with their crude behaviors. He never really had a set personality, as he found it hard to be extroverted, but he managed in the end. He stood up to Mason... or that's what he thought at least.
He didn't know how to act as an omega... to be prim and proper, kind and lovable. He was gigantic — he wasn't cute nor gorgeous, as he was told by the other alphas in his village as he was growing up.
He could never be the alpha he wanted to be... strong, powerful, noble. Nor could he make his parents proud or protect them. He lost the ability when he presented.
Noah looked at his stomach. He had the ability to conceive and give birth to a child. He flushed in shame, trying to forget what the maid had told him. He was abnormal, and Gael, his mate, didn't want him. His mind kept circling around the memories he had during his heat and all the experiences he had had with Gael.
Reina and the others are strong. They are confident omegas. Beauty, intelligence, talent, respect, and most importantly, strength. They could take care of themselves. But what could Noah bring to the table? What else did he have that separated him from the other omegas? What could he use to appeal to his soul-mate?
Nothing...
He felt his eyes water, and he began to sniffle. He trembled, trying to hold back tears. He wanted to be comforted by his alpha. His wolf, who had been silent, whined in his mind... alpha...
He wanted to be independent, but now more than ever he needed somebody by his side to help guide him through this dark period.
Was Alpha disgusted with him? How had he been pretending to be an alpha all this time? Or was it because he was being too clingy? Maybe his alpha hated him when he acted like that.
"Gael..." Noah tested the name out. He hated the feeling, but if it meant that Alpha wouldn't hate him anymore, he would keep doing it. His wolf whined at the disrespect towards their alpha by calling him by name. At this point, Noah mentally shut down and was on a downward spiral towards sub space.
Noah shook his head to get rid of his rampant emotions and got off of his bed. He went to the closet and dressed himself up using what seemed to be Gael's clothes, not bothering to comb his platinum locks. He was still visibly shaking when he left the room, but the scent of his alpha managed to calm him down a bit.
After wandering the halls for a while, Noah had finally made it out into what seemed to be a courtyard. It was decorated beautifully with hundreds of different flowers. He took the time to appreciate the flowers and get his mind off of things. It reminded him of his mom. He was extremely homesick. He wanted his father's warm cuddles.
Noah didn't know how much time had passed until his stomach growled and he realized he hadn't eaten since two days ago. This couldn't possibly be healthy, as Noah was known to eat as much as his alpha father.
He buried his face in the collar of Gael's shirt to comfort himself and inhaled the scent. Noah continued wandering around until he came upon what seemed to be a training field.
'It's more like a castle than he thought.'
Clang...
He looked up at the sound, and watched as two men hit their swords together as though they were fighting to the death. Jeers could be heard from both sides of the area.
Startled Noah hid behind a wide pillar.
"Hey..." Florence nudged the male sitting beside him. "Isn't that Gael's soul-mate?"
Bernard pushed his glasses up with his index finger in agreement. "What is he doing at our training area?"
They were interrupted by yelling.
"Come on! "Knock that weakling onto his arse'" One man shouted.
"Give it to him! Show him what you've got! I bet my lunch on you winning. You better not let me down! " Another man joined in.
The fight got even more intense, and the two men could be seen panting heavily. Both were equal in strength.
The soldiers couldn't help but notice the omega attempting to hide himself behind the pillar.
Noah was unaware that he had attracted the gaze of everyone until he noticed that the two men had stopped fighting. Not too far away, the supervisor of the spar squinted his eyes in dissatisfaction.
"Gael, what's yer omega doing 'ere?" He said this in a loud, unwelcoming tone. Noah looked at the man, and jumped in fright at the mangled expression the man had. He had a huge scar spanning diagonally from his eyebrow to the corner of his lip.
Noah gulped but stood his ground against the man. He was fascinated by what had taken place earlier and wanted to see more.
Gael looked at Noah from a distance with an indiscernible look. Time would tell if he had to step in at any point during this exchange. He knew that Tol was a very traditional alpha, and nothing he would say would stop the alpha from acting offensive. Maybe it would cause Noah to decide to leave on his own and go back to his village.
"Omega... why are ya here and not in the kitchen making the soldiers some grub? Ya broke or somethin'? " He glared, annoyed that the pipsqueak stopped the alphas' training.
"Get out of here!" His voice boomed when the omega continued to stand there in the distance, bewildered. "Fuckin' weakling."
Tol was 7' in height. He was one of the largest alphas in the area other than Gael. His size made Noah's wolf want to submit in fear, but instead of running away, he decided to stare the alpha down. It wasn't the first time he had to deal with bullies, so long as they didn't comment on his newest weakness... and that was being an omega. Noah ended up walking closer until he was smack dab in the middle of the alpha cluster.
"I want to join." Noah said resolutely. The other alphas began to complain loudly in protest.
'...', Tol thought.
"There's another training area that the omegas use. You should go there instead." He looked down at the omega with an intimidating glare. "You would be accepted in the least." He snorted.
"Don't they basically learn to cook and clean?" Mikey nudged his friend with his elbow, hand over his mouth to prevent others from hearing him.
Chris looked at him. "They also learn some self-defense, which, might I add, is really strong against untrained alphas."
"Ohh-I see. Well, do they spar? "
"Yes, but they don't spar in their wolf form as it does get bloody and omegas have a slower healing rate."
Noah looked down, disheartened from what he had overheard. Sure, it was fine to join the Omega training area with Reina and the rest, but he felt as though he could do much more. Here at least, he'd be able to satisfy his craving for something, but he didn't know what it was he wanted. He glanced at his alpha, who didn't even bother to look at him. He felt a twang in his heart.
'Sorry alpha... I'm going to be a little selfish for once. I have to... become true to myself and I feel I can't do that if I train with the omegas. '
He had lived like an alpha all his life. Sure, some things didn't come to him naturally, but through perseverance he was able to do them in the end. Otherwise, what was his point in being here? Why was Gael treated so highly? He had many questions, but what he knew for certain was that his alpha didn't want him, so there was no way for him to get pregnant. His wolf whined at the loss.
'Would he just have to suffer through another heat alone?'
"Alright," Tol began. "Why don't we show the omega how we train? I'll give 'ya a test... and if 'ya can keep up with us for the rest of the week, 'ya can join. " He said, chuckling at the absurdity. He didn't think Noah could do anything at all.
"Shift. We're goin' out hunting. Gather as many prey as 'ya can. If 'ya get the least amount, I never want 'ta see your mug again. Lest 'ya want ta die. "
The sound of breaking bones could be heard from all around. Once they were done, Noah could hear the other alphas jeering at him in their wolf form. He takes a couple of deep breaths.
'Don't let them get to you and do what you can already do at the moment.'
Noah always went out on hunts with his alpha father, and would always catch prey. He took the challenge and shifted.
Tol grinned menacingly and led the omega to the hunting spot. The hunting spot could not compare to the hunting area Noah had back at home. The animals here were not as big, nor did they look as tough. The prey they had, needed four wolves to help take them down. But Noah wouldn't underestimate these creatures, as he was in unfamiliar territory.
"Begin!" Tol bellowed. The animals here were viscous and mean, they had hard skin and sharp claws, but they had the most nutritional value. You had to penetrate through the tough exterior — the weak part was the neck. The only other thing was that they were extremely fast, so even if their group was strong enough to kill it with brute force, they would have to catch it first. So if they didn't snap its neck right away, the prey could slip out and run away. Of course, the only ones who could catch more than one batch were himself and the royal children.
Noah dashed out into the forest far ahead of everyone else. He saw the small animal in the distance, what seemed like a rabbit. He increased his speed, avoiding tree roots and miscellaneous things on the ground with great agility. The small animal didn't see anything coming, and Noah opened his jaw wide and grabbed the little thing before biting down. Unfortunately, he didn't expect the little beast to fight back and scratch him. The wound was worse on an omega as their skin was made up of more thin pieces of paper. Noah bit down even harder, breaking through skin until the thing that couldn't even be considered an animal to him stopped moving.
He heaved in exhaustion, and his wolf howled with delight.
Back in the village, there were things much faster than the prey he had caught, and the same result occurred, with him being the only one to catch the prey. It was something he built upon over the years as he realized he wasn't as strong as the other alphas and would get greatly injured if he tried to take anything else down if he wasn't being careful.
After a few more hours of hunting, he had managed to catch ten prey. He decided to head back while he still had the energy but was assaulted by a large wolf form, which tackled him down unrestrainedly.
Unfortunately, Noah's foot had been in a bad position when he was jumped on, so it ended up getting sprained.
The wolf managed to steal five of Noah's prey before running off, leaving Noah injured and confused. He looked at his slightly lighter load and felt wronged.
He forced himself to get onto his paws to go back to the training area, limping the whole way. Once he got there, he threw the leftover amount of his prey onto the ground and glanced at the supervisor. He could feel the pain in his leg getting worse and he winced.
Tol huffed and waved the other alphas in to show how much they had caught.
One alpha in particular seemed odd as he had eleven prey in his pile. Noah recognized the wolf to be the same one who attacked him. He turned his head and ignored the alpha, and the praise he received. The alpha looked as though he was smirking at him as much as he could in his wolf form.
'It's not worth getting into a fight for.' Noah thought.
"Well, I didn't expect much from 'ya anyway..but 'ya managed not to be dead last so 'ya passed today's test." Tol nodded his head in acknowledgement of Noah's meager work. "Practice begins again at seven in the morning tomorrow." I hope 'ya can continue to prove yourself. "
Noah nodded and began padding toward the direction of his room. He grabbed the pile of clothes laying on the side of the area. It still strongly smelled of his alpha, and he tried with all his strength to hide his limp. If the supervisor noticed, Noah would have no choice but to forfeit.
Little did he know, Gael had been watching him the entire time, and was confused at Freckle's odd behavior.
